   Do you think that being  Demorcrate/Republican is enough to solve the problems that the USA faces?
   
   For decades we have been divided by political slogans, ideals, and marketing...but do you honestly feel that being a democrate or a republican is enough to solve the economic, social, and foreign affair problems that American faces?  Or is there something more?  If so what is it... Be free in your responses.

   I do not think that any one party is going to solve the problems that this country faces or any other country in the world for that matter. The very things that divide us as a people should be the ones to unite us. Democrats have an agenda and so do the Republicans. From the way people advocate for what defines them, we can very well understand that people have different interests and the way forward is tolerance, a lot of tolerance where we all respect one another and learn to live in harmony without wanting to stifle everybody because of our ideals. Between the ideals of the Republicans and the Democrats, there is a population of people that are pretty neutral and these should be lauded as the stabilizers instead of being ignored and trampled upon. The whole world needs those 'bridgers', the people who see through others and understand what they are all about and it does not really matter.

   No.  The whole political affiliation is a staged game and makes people believe they are fighting for a cause etc. The truth of the matter is all politicians are bought and paid for by lobbyists and corporate masters.  In the end that is who they serve and they do it to line their own pockets.  99.9% could care less about their constituents.
   
   The sideshow crap that goes on in election year is to make us believe that somehow we have the ability to make a difference by just voting for this guy or that guy. I'm so frustrated by the whole thing I don't even plan to vote this time around.  It would be the first time ever I didn't exercise that right, but I just don't see the point right now. 
   
   I think we need a viable 3rd party, a lot more grass roots organization to overturn garbage like "Citizens United" that decided corporations are people.  Things like Super PAC's etc need to be eliminated.  Nothing is going to ever get better until people get fed up enough to do something about it - and people are so apathetic when it comes to this stuff I don't hold out much hope that it will happen.

   No, I do not. I think it is time we evolved to a system of personal preference. When a person wants to be elected they have to produce a gazeteer of sorts that highlights where they stand on the major issues as well as informs the voters about the candidate's history. People can then do credit checks on the candidate to see if they can be trusted in such an important position. Why not? All the big bussinesses are doing it why shouldn't we, the people? Time for the government to evolve!

   Being neither a Democrat or Republican will solve the problems facing the U.S. The problems our country face cross party lines, as well as social-economic lines, race, location, etc.
   
   In several hubs, questions and forums issues have been raised about Social Security, the infrastructure, education, poverty, health care, military spending, nuclear threats, deadlock congress, partisan politics, and the list goes on and on.
   
   There is no overnight solution. There is no free solution. The 2 percent tax cut in Social Security taxes was the most foolish thing that could be done. Social Security needs money. Cut the general tax rate, give a rebate, do something, but do not decrease funding to Social Security.
   
   There are small things that can be done and big things have to be done.
   
   Raise the cap on the amount of income that is subject to social security taxes to $200,000.
   
   Develop an infrastructure update plan that is based on need and not partisan politics.
   
   Cut the fat in the budget--it is kind of like going on a diet, you cannot eliminate all the fat at one time, but if you start and stick with it, you can reach your goal.
   
   Party allegiance has nothing to do with these problems. Let the parties argue over gun control, gay rights and other issues which are either beyond their control or will ultimately be decided by the courts.
   
   My state for years had an open primary system, where all candidates, regardless of party ran for election. We switched back to the closed primary system. Being an independent, my voting rights were limited. Wisely, our state is going back to the open system. In that system you compare the candidates and not the parties. If there are any debates, the candidates from all the parties are present, so you do not just hear the candidates from the same party playing to the audience in the state where the primary is being held that week.
   
   People need to make choices about who they elect and in my opinion, the last item on the checklist should be party affiliation.

   The two party system will not solve the problems we face.  I believe the majority of politicians are corrupt and concerned more about self than country.  One election will not change everything.  A complete overhaul of the political system is needed.  The government has become too large and too corrupt.

   It will take so much more to fix the mess things have become.  Political party really no longer matters; all politicians are cut from the same bolt of cloth.  You can say with a high degree of confidence, that if a politician's lips are moving, he or she is lying...or at the very least distorting the facts, or spouting irrelevant answers to questions by "answering" something that was far afield from the question asked.  They are well-versed in "double-speak" a la George Orwell's book, "1984."
   There is so much corruption, greed, ridiculous ploys of showmanship, one-upmanship, muck-raking and mud-slinging that the entire electoral process has become a farce.  And  OUR government thinks they have the right to sit in on other countries' elections to insure fair play? 
   There is no candidate, (and there has not been one for decades), who is forthright about their own platform and actual plans as to HOW they will effect change.  They are all too busy slamming the competition. That does not provide a rational basis for casting a sensible vote.  The candidate's opinion of their opponents tells me exactly NOTHING about that candidate's own views and plans.
   The entire structure of the process needs to be scrapped, and the system set up anew with very different rules.
   It has gotten so ridiculous that you may as well throw away your vote by writing in a cartoon character, becuase that is what these career politicians have become:  a mere caricature of genuine people and a very un-funny satire of the entire system. The electoral process envisioned by the Founding Fathers has been completely bastardized by the players of the last half-century.
