   At what point will the government stop ignoring benefits of marijuana?
   
   Marijuana is used to treat many health issues. Studies are showing it is helping with everything from PTSD to arthritis. Yet the federal government continues to ignore it. In most of our country it is still illegal. At what point will they have to stop ignoring the facts?

   peeples......Rest assured, the "government" is well aware of the health benefits and also cannot deny that pot, in it's purest and natural form, presents no dangers or health risks whatsoever.  It is an herb......and just as most herbs are used in numerous health products, cannibus is also.
   It's all about politics and money, peebles.....like everything that Politicians stick their noses into.  It is infuriating, of course, but I am confident that one by one, each State will eventually legalize (at least decriminalize) marajuana.   
   Stupidity and Ignorance is tolerated only so long by the masses.  Then they act.

   As long as it's sold on the streets "illegally", it will never be fully recognized and welcomed by the government.  The street "vendors" are robbing the govt of its finances.

      Perhaps those "street vendors" are working for the government. The CIA has been found to be one of the largest drug dealers in the world, to finance their black ops projects.

   At this point in history we are making HUGE strides towards legalizing it. Twenty years ago it would have been unheard of to do so in one state. Alcohol is by far worse than marijuana. Marijuana will be legalized in every state within the next 5-10 years. Believe me the states have their eyes on the taxes that could be collected from the sale of legalized marijuana. Right now we are in prohibition you might say of marijuana. To legalize it has many more benefits than just health benefits. It will save this country millions of dollars from chasing and arresting, then providing them shelter, clothing, and free meals at the tax payers expense. Legalize it! It's a win, win situation.

      Amen, JThomp...and think of the positive & good that could be done with the "billions" of those saved dollars you mention....such as, rehabilitation programs in the prison system?  Support Systems for the "victims" of crimes?

      And the government is making money off of the criminalization of drugs. We know that the CIA is in on it.
      
      But it likely won't be legalized until we kick corporations out of Washington.

      Win, Win? Hardly. Any type of drug that alters one's conscious state is harmful (if not in the short run...in the long run). Pot is known to be a "gateway" drug and many will walk through it and onto harder drugs. In the end it's all about bondage.

      CJ they have a way of producing a pill form of marijuana that does not alter the mind. It is often used on children with autism. Medications are also a gateway. Recent studies show children are doing more of their moms(stealing) meds than pot.

      CJ.... 1st of all, Marajuana is not a DRUG.  So, how on earth it can be a "gateway" drug is beyond the rationale of any horticulturalist, Naturalist and/or HERBALIST.  Where ever you get your data, change sources.  Your ideas are 100% incorrect.

   It's the government which has the front of having the control over whether or not it is legalized. However, it all comes down to money. And if marijuana and hemp are legalized (and I do mean AND between those two. There's two separate laws for each), then it means less money in oil, timber, cotton and for big ol' Pharma.
   It's far too useful of a plant for every one to be able to put to use.

      Pharma and the medicos are in it for the money (profits). Corporations have a fiduciary duty to increase profits.
      
      A cure for anything like cancer would kill profits. And people kill for lots less than billions

   @peeples, they're not ignoring the facts through incompetence or accident.
   
   They're ignoring the facts on purpose and with malice.
   
   The ones in power (those who bought the presidents, legislators and judges) don't care about health benefits. They care about creating "Wars" on X so that they can have greater power.
   
   The "War on Drugs," just like the "War on Terrorism," helps to fix our attention on these things, with passion, so we end up getting more of them -- more drugs and related crimes and more terrorism. This feeds their need for more tyrannical legislation.
   
   Just as Mother Teresa said, we should never be Anti-War, but Pro-Peace. This is far more than semantics. This is behavior modification on a massive scale.
   
   Want to legalize marijuana? Boycott corporations -- all of them! Stop buying all manufactured products. Period! Kick them in their pocketbook. Why corporations? They are the new "citizens." The Supreme Court told us so. And the corporations are the ones electing our public officials.
   
   If even 10% of Americans did this, then corporations would have to stand up and listen.
   
   If you don't think they're the problem, then look at what corporatism has done to America. Look at the Academy Award winning documentary, "Inside Job."
   
   Look at the scientific evidence at http://www.AE911truth.org. Proof that 9/11 was an inside job, just like the financial meltdown on 2008 and the subsequent government bailouts that taxpayers paid for.
   
   The government and corporations have gone cockeyed crazy, but with a sinister purpose. They're dismantling America -- unPatriot Act, NDAA with its provisions for indefinite detention (without charges, attorney, trial or phone call), President's "kill list" including Americans, and HR 347 with its provision to make it a felony to protest what the government is doing.
   
   And the agents provocateur attempting to overturn the 2nd Amendment. These lone, mad gunmen are crazy, there's no doubt of that. But where did they get their training? CIA? Days before 9/11, Osama Bin Laden was paid a visit by his CIA handler.
   
   Follow the money. And we're talking Trillions of dollars, like the $2.3 Trillion Donald Rumsfeld, on 9/10/2001, admitted was missing from the DoD. He didn't mind admitting this, because the next day all of the evidence being investigated on this was destroyed on 9/11. Cover up, just like the government's felony in cleaning up the biggest crime scene in history before an investigation could be performed

      One more thought: if someone had a cure for cancer, that would threaten Big Pharma's billion dollar profits. Do you think anyone would kill for a billion dollars? Walk away from corporations! Don't feed the source of greed.

   Well, I have reasons to believe that most of our politicians have first-hand knowledge about the benefits that come from smoking massive amounts of marijuana (on the job and behind closed doors). How else do they come up with all these horrendous policies?

   I don't know when, hopefully soon. Maybe it'll be way after all of us are dead. Maybe in 100 or so years it'll be acceptable. I am sure that without religion, the apprehension towards it would be greatly decreased.....so maybe in 500 years
