Do YOU believe that the United States government has become more intrusive in the lives
of its citizens or do YOU contend that the United States is only creating more safeguards and protections of its citizens against impending harmful, even dangerous acts?
I don't feel intruded upon, and I do think the government has to keep pace with technology to protect us. I think case by case, things will get hashed out in the courts, and we'll end up with policies that are too intrusive for some, and not strict enough for others. Meanwhile, I'm not doing anything in which any government agency might be interested, so they can troll through my data all they want.
This is such a hard question for me. I tend to be liberal leaning, but I also believe government has no right to mandate what one chooses to do with one's own body let's say. For example I'm pro-choice.
Another good example is this latest fear mongering with wanting to force vaccinations on people. Many I know are on the wrong side of this issue, sorry. They have no problem with the government "protecting" us by forcing people to inject their bodies - but that is a very very very slippery slope in my eyes.
With that kind of intrusiveness, where does it end and what are we truly opening ourselves up to due to some temporary over exaggerated fears? Without getting into the debate on vaccinations specifically, because that's not what I'm intending, in my mind it's more about people who are ok with letting a government compel people to inject something into their bodies. No, that's a scary place to go to and opens the door for even more "for our own good" intrusiveness down the line. Some doors once open can't be shut again. So we have to ask ourselves, are we overreacting to fear? (yes) and are we willingly going to give up more freedom because of it? (I hope not, but fear does strange things to people and governments know that all too well - patriot act anyone?).
I also have a big problem with our present government and the extremely high levels of corruption that exist at all levels. Ideally, a govt should be by and for the people and serve the greater good of all - but that is not what is happening.
They stole my property by intentionally applying toxic chemicals to my property with intent to cause serious injury or death. My local government is nothing more than a self-serving enterprise of organized crime.
