In what ways are Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump alike?

These two candidates are not the status quo politicians. How are they alike?

They are both running for president, and they are both pretty old, and they are males.

Good answer, I can't see why this was voted DOWN! C'mon people now!

They are both white men born in the 1940s in New York City who are running for President. Other than that, I think they both have undergraduate degrees in Economics.

In terms of policy according to http://presidential-candidates.insidego … nald-Trump :

They both disagree that "marijuana is a gateway drug" and disagree that we should support and expand free trade. That's pretty much it...

This pic says it all, nothing in common...practically. Yeah they're both men, both born in NY, but that has nothing to do with the point of this Q&A does it? (they're human beings too)

Trump and Sanders are fundamentally different breeds of candidates who are situated very differently in their respective nomination races.

You can call both “outsiders.” But if you’re a Democrat, Sanders is your eccentric uncle: He has his own quirks, but he’s part of the family. If you’re a Republican, Trump is as familial as the vacuum salesman knocking on your door. He knows how to push your buttons but do you really want to let him in?

They are at opposites on every issue and one is a successful businessman who embraces capitalism while the other is a lifelong politician (yeah like we need another one of them) and an avowed socialist. They couldn't be any different!

Contrary to Jeramey Conrad (who is a cornucopia of misinformation)  who says  "They both disagree that "marijuana is a gateway drug..." Sanders said in an interview with Yahoo! earlier this year that "marijuana is a “gateway drug” that can lead to heroin and cocaine use."

I can't find a quote anywhere from Trump even suggesting he thinks Marijuana isn't a gateway drug but he has said he is for free trade and I quote Donald Trump:

"I'm for free and fair trade"

"Free trade can be wonderful if you have smart people, but we have people that are stupid. We have people that are controlled by special interests. And it's just not going to work"

"I'm a free trader. But the problem with free trade is you need really talented people to negotiate for you. If you don't have people that know business, not just a political hack that got the job because he made a contribution to a campaign, free trade is terrible."

What Sanders and Trump have in common is they’re both unlikely to be nominated due to their respective party establishments who want to pick the candidate despite how their constituents may feel about it.

An easier question for your next Q&A which I will answer would be "What does Jeramey Conrad and the truth have in common."

    Almost NOTHING

Jeramey if you even knew what the word conservative means you'd never suggest a conservative would vote for a socialist - anyone who would is by definition NOT a conservative - what boat did you just get off of?

Thanks Grace, you do have a keen sense of politics and who is PC and who isn't. Did you like the eccentric uncle and vacuum salesman analogies? (not sure I'd let Trump in, he'd sell me the Broklyn Bridge & crazy uncles, I have enough of them)

Alike?  Bernie & Donald are 1.) Male 2.) Senior Citizens 3.) Candidates in 2016 POTUS campaign, 4.) Caucasian 5.) husbands & fathers.

In every other way imaginable, these two men are POLAR OPPOSITES. So extremely so....I wouldn't know where to begin.  I also know the list would go on forever~~ and ever.

(There are a "few" candidates we may consider "not the status quo"....this is not unique to Bernie & Donald)

Paula, the question is 'in what ways..." A way is a method, style, or manner of doing something. I don't think your top (5) qualify. If asked "In what  way do you do something?" would you say I "Male" it, or I "Cuacasion" it? (-: ignore me! :-)

OK, I'll play. 1) They call themselves men 1,) They age every day 2) They debate, promise & win or lose 4) They TAN in the sun 5) They listen, obey & provide.  Is that better? Are those the WAYS they're alike? I can't go anywhere else..

Perhaps Thou will not attempt to play "gotcha" with the "Queen of Gotcha," again, oh jester of the court.....although thou art married, thou learnest NOT thy lesson? Women rule the world of the LAST WORD. Thou art forgiven.

Both are political mavericks who think out of the political box.  Both desire to operate outside the political mainstream.  Both aren't politics as usual.  Both are known to be quite unconventional in terms of political beliefs.  Both are unafraid to spout unpopular opinions as to how to remedy America.  Both desire to drastically reform, even overhaul the current political system.

Grace you're driving me mad with the word "both"! (four times?) Just hard for me to imagine them as similar on anything to the extent I'd use that word...but you know what, you are right.
