What Countries/Nations should the U.S. STOP sending Money to ASAP! Why?
Since we are so deeply in debt and have countless issues to FIX ($$) in our own Country, why don't we simply stop giving money away to foreign countries?
Mexico, of course! We keep up everyone who comes across the border and the government there loves it of course and would never discourage its citizens from pouring into our country hour upon hour and many with drugs and guns. We absolutely should not give them a dime. Our government would not be about to let us know just how much of our money goes into their pockets and it is not just housing, checks, food stamps and WIC but they are also ripping us off legally with a little loophole our government gave them to get back tax money they did not pay out and claiming children they do not have besides nieces and nephews back in Mexico. I just would like to know why someone does not do something about all this and how is it profiting them all so much that they will let our country go bankrupt besides being so overrun with people as it really has already that we have no idea who is who after we the citizens have spent our lifetime having to prove everything while we build up the kitty!
Mm, yes, Mexico has my vote.
But we don't actually give Mexico any money. And the money that immigrants are making/receiving here isn't going back to Mexico - it's going towards housing and vehicles here in the US. Just look at the stats.
But yes we do give Mexico money and yes everything I said is true. Some of what you said is true. Some pay a little tax. How does it help the citizens because they buy new cars? It may help some businesses but not the American tax payer, never.
On 2013 the us gave over $50 billion to Mexico. Mexico's second largest source of income is remittances from the US. Michaela, do you ever research things or just make preposterous guesses ?
You have a Social Justice Warrior on your thread, just drop the facts on her and watch her squirm
90% of the Mexicans send 90% of their money BACK to Mexico to their families, until their families can slip over the border too!
Hi Paula,
Yes, I don't know how we can keep giving money away at all to other counties with our huge deficit! But the ones coming to my mind now that I know we have given money to now and/or in the past, China, Russia, Egypt, Mexico and Iraq.
What is troubling about Mexico is that so many Mexicans are coming over here illegally and not paying taxes and then sending money back to their families, so that money is not spent here in the U.S. to help our economy.
If someone goes through the legal process of becoming a citizen, then they are welcome of course, but I heard a woman speak, who is in favor of letting all stay here, but she mentioned that in order to arrive in the U.S., they used stolen Social Security Numbers and she was okay with that! So, how can committing a crime be okay to live here and never go through the process to become legal? That is just one aspect which seems not right about the whole thing in my mind.
How are Mexican immigrants not paying taxes? Do they buy goods while in America? Paying taxes then. Do they hold down actual jobs? Paying taxes.
Read the post - illegal immigrants aren't paying taxes - stop splitting hairs with the sales tax thing. They don't pay federal or state taxes
Theresa.....Excellent Questions. Where are those who can answer?? We deserve so much better!
Yes, surely there are those in the know but are ignored by the powers at hand.
all of them, we should be paying our debt off. No one should get a dollar if we owe any money out. We should take care of our country first and then help when we can afford it. To have our own debt means we can not afford it.
Yes, Vince, I was thinking that too really, because how can we give away something we don't have?
Exactly! If we ran a business like governments run countries, we'd be bankrupt in seconds. Why don't they see that?
Vince & Theresa....Thank you for your valid contributions. We can all agree on this major issue!
Problem is....the USA isn't really just "giving" money to other countries. Yes the nation is suffering from a serious debt crisis but guess what? We've borrowed SO MUCH MONEY for other countries in the past to help bail us out that we own other countries a lot of money.
Did you know that China actually owns most of the U.S. debt? And they're trying to sell it off to other countries so we'll owe THEM billions too.
The US gives aid to 96% of the worlds countries through economic and military assistance
All of them, because we cannot afford to pay our own bills without borrowing from China.
Borrowing from China to give to other nations is like charging on your credit card to impress people who don't like you - it feels good now but has major financial penalties later and doesn't help you long run.
Paula,
We should cancel all foreign aid, all foreign military assistance, bring all troops home and station them in defensive positions on our borders. If someone needs our help, then we contract with them for our services or military. The bad mouthing about the US would certainly go away because we'd stay out of their affairs. Let the rest of the world self destruct.
Of course those American companies who chose to leave the safety of the homeland to build plants abroad would be SOL since they would be targets, but then again, they did leave.
I've no idea about the US but we have the same problem here. There are millions going out to the EU and we don't have enough to repair many roads nor tend to our own properly. We give benefits to just about anyone who turns up and our own on the housing lists do not take precedent. What madness is that?! It will be interesting to see the result of our referendum regarding staying or leaving the EU. I think you can tell which side I'm on! I agree entirely with your premise, Paula.
Starving homeless people, people unable to pay their medical bills, vets unable to get medical help. All while we spend 50 Billion a year helping other countries! read more
It's against the TOS to self promote. Although I agree with your views, they lose credibility when you link responders to your article.
Do you know the "Make a hub about this question button"? I didn't self promote. I answered the question through HP's own button. That was the point of Q and A section. Go to a Q, click Answer, then look below box you will see "make hub about" button.
Well apparently some don't know. It's not self promotion to "make a hub" from a question. It was why the Q and A section was here to begin with. Surprised as long as TT has been here he/she didn't know that button was there. All good though!
Oops, TT.....this is built-in HP auto promo! You knew this, right??
+1 to most of the answers here. How can we justify giving money away when our elderly can't afford their medicines and many of our people are living on the streets rather than in homes. If we want to fix these things, we must write to our senators and congressmen again and again. They WILL listen if they think their jobs are in jeopardy, and unhappy citizens can make that happen!
you need to pay people to be able to control the state of affairs in other countries. Stopping funding is not a realistic option because of the base desire to "rule the world".

really get tired of people who say the United States is a horrible place. I have no idea why they just don't go to a country they think is better. I wonder if they are too unintelligent, cowards or just lack the conviction and commitment it would take to move to another country. ...

While it would be a just cause I don't think it could ever happen. Look how long it took for Congress to recognize slavery and made the appology in a late night session. This country never has or will admit when it is wrong and I will tell you why. This capitalist society is money...
