   There is no other acceptable choice and or remedy other than his resignation which would conceivably still lead to immediate criminal indictment given the trove of damning evidence which currently exists: The political END must be near for this most absurdly unqualified and mentally shackled individual in modern human history and according to our constitution and laws, he must be impeached / indicted to END his hate filled, gruesome nightmare of an era: No individual that I’m aware of receives a free pass to evade legal consequences regardless of title and an individual as seemingly warped, inept, destructive to the USA and despicably dark as Donald is, cannot be coddled nor entitled to immunity from prosecution: PREDICTIONS: How many articles and criminal / civil charges should be drafted and filed and which Crimes, Torts, Abominable Acts,  Crimes Against Humanity and or Immoral A-Moral  abuses do you believe Donald Trump will either be charged with or should be charged with??:

   Our forefathers understood the importance of potential "Foreign Influence & Corruption" of our democracy and Donald Trump has been in committing this Crime against our constitution from the very second he was sworn in by receiving illegal money from hotels which bear his name: For this crime alone he should have been impeached and indicted 2 years ago, now we'll see if he can actually get away with it to the detriment of the nation:

               Whether true or not, whether Cohen was lying or telling the truth, I think his testimony was fertilizer and validation for the anti-Trumpers that have been saying he is exactly what Cohen said he was today.

            The SDNY began an investigation into Trump Organization about 5 years ago. NY and NJ often pick up on state affairs.
            
            In 2013 when Trump got that money laundering fine in NJ, naturally NY's AG rightly figured Trump had used Deutschebank since the money laundered by Trump was foreign money and Deutschebank is a forex bank.
            
            NY was fully aware that one year earlier, the feds fined Deutschebank for laundering Russian money. It was one of the largest fines paid by a US bank.
            
            Owing 2 hotels and casinos in NJ constitutes compliance with banking, IRS and labor laws. It wasn't out of the view of NY state that once Trump got that federal money laundering fine, there was likelihood of additional violations
            
            Trump is, in many ways, the most dangerous white collar criminal the US has ever handed one too many slaps on his wrist to. Now, he has the ultimate excuse for not being charged...a sitting president.
            
            When you check out those Cohen named in his testimony, those names are only the tip of the iceberg. What they are hoping to do is make the case that poor innocent Donald J. Trump knew nothing about payments to silence those 2 women, knew nothing about the fraud committed by Trump Organization with the bogus Trump University and those charities he bilked.

    Let's think about this. I've listened to probably a dozen or more legal experts from the WaterGate and WhiteWater Era, including the now contrite Ken Starr of WhiteWater fame. The general concensus is that Trump's lawyers will cling to the interpretation that "treason" as written in the Constitution was intended for a sitting president in a time of war.
    
    There are three men today in our Congress who are the most brilliant legal minds of our times, Senator Richard Blumental, Reps. Jerrold Nadler and Jamie Raskin. They are ability to keep the focus on LAW and not personalities as the right wing and Republicans would prefer to do.
    
    All three of these men have indicated that they are building a case not for impeachment but for removal from office based on the sitting president committing federal crimes.
    
    I believe it was Senator Blumenthal who stated that if a president is charged with a crime, the indictment could be sealed which would delay his removal from office.
    
    Most Americans wants what we know our punishments would be for committing the crimes Trump consistently seems to get away with: jail. Not impeachment. Jail.
    
    At present, Trump is a serial criminal who believes so long as he remains in the WH he cannot be prosecuted even if he committed murder on the front lawn of the WH.

                If the election were a straight popular election, and if Clinton didn't win the popular vote, then maybe you'd be on to something.
                
                The Ruskies spent almost $250,000 during 2016 in an ATTEMPT to influence our elections.  Did these ads convince 10's of thousands of people, spread out over several battleground states, to vote for Trump instead of Clinton?  If we know that happened, let's see the evidence. The drop in the bucket spent by Russia can't have overcome the millions spent by Clinton, not even partly.  $250,000 isn't enough to get 100 people to sneeze in the right direction. 
                
                You remember good ole Jeb Bush?  He started the Republican primary with $115 million in his campaign chest.  He spent $100 million during the first few primaries, more than any of the others, he came away with 9 delegates before he ran out of money and had to quit.
                
                I agree with you that foreign powers spending money to influence our elections is a concern.  We need to address that concern as best we can.  But clinging to the idea that Russians actually succeeded in turning an election isn't reasonable.

          I don't disagree that we are involved in a cyber war. The US is now so far behind in technology thanks to Trump's refusal to allow the Dem bill to protect our computer systems from cyber hacking to become law.
          
          You make a very interesting point though about the constitution and our Founding Fathers.
          
          The problem with a cyber war is that although it can now take down multiple governments, it has not been formally declared.
          
          I'm thinking one of the reason Trump wanted out of NATO and the UN is because he suspected that NATO and UN allies would do just that: Declare cyber war as a formally declared war.
          
          I've always loved all of the history of our Founding Fathers. I've read the bios of nearly all but about 5 of past presidents in our history, only because so much has already been written about JFK, FDR, Wilson, Harding and Hoover. I'm sure there are details that are yet to be released by the National Archives.
          
          One thing I do know is that no matter how anyone thinks they can retrofit or reinterpret laws, some laws are as the Founding Fathers wrote in the Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self evident..."
          
          That was the strongest indication that the signers of the Declaration of Independence clearly recognized truth as self evident. Meaning, that freedom for each human being is self evident and needs no further interpretation.
          
          War too is another truth that is "self evident." Which is what your post alludes to. War is a self evident conflict between two factions. it need not be gattlng gun to gattling gun or nukes to nukes.
          
          War can be as simple as a massive attempt to refuse to allow others that "self evident" freedom.
          
          I don't find much of what the Founding Fathers wrote that is not applicable to the conflicts and wars we are experiencing today. Russia and China are both in conflict with the US for the potential to force power on Americans and deny us our inalienable right to freedom.
          
          When anynation does that in any manner, as you posted, that's WAR. All that remains is a formal declaration of such. Don't expect that from Republicans or Trump who are aiding and abetting a foreign enemy of the US to ever make such a formal declaration.
          
          They know they'd never win another election if they didn't have help from Russian and Chinese hackers.

                I strongly suggest if you get the chance that you watch all 3 parts. Part I was mainly about his early life and his difficulties with his father. But, Part II was a reminder with almost a dozen front page covers of the lurid details of Trump's divorce from Ivana and fling with Marla Maples.
                
                But near the end of Part II, it showed how he was so broke that he was almost indicted for bank fraud for defaulting on bank loans in the hundreds of millions he owed. It details his "I don't care" attitude that he and Ivanka were about to go down for fraud over the Soho real estate deal where he defrauded millions from investors. He only got off because he promised to pay back the investors and because of a very suspicious deal from NY DA Marc Schul.
                
                What you'll find most interesting is in Part III. You'll see and hear Trump telling a handful of reporters as he was leaving a birthday party in Moscow for Agilarov's son, that he knows lots of Russian oligarchs and was doing business with many of them. So much for his huge lie in 2016 that he never Putin or had any business in Russia.
                
                Part III clearly shows his plan to build a Trump Tower in Moscow and how when President Obama placed sanctions on Russia Trump flew into a rage and blamed Obama for ruining his chances for that Moscow Trump Tower.
                
                As to the question of impeachment, I believe that Dems are wary of it for one reason: they want to make certain they have all their ducks in order before they impeach him. The other reason may be they are waiting to see if Pence is under the watchful eye of Mueller. Otherwise, they replace Trump with Pence if Trump is impeached.
                
                Trump will be indicted. The SDNY is only stepping aside out of respect for the seriousness of the Mueller investigation. But, if it begins to look as if that investigation does not pan out as they hope, they'll move in like ants at a picnic.

                         Well said Ewent and just to add a couple more off the top of my head, if I remember correctly his casino(s) before he filed for MASSIVE Bankruptcy in New jersey were fined for breaking anti-discrimination laws and he's considered by legal experts as an  "Un-Indicted Co-Conspirator" in SDNY and I'm sure there are other illegalities that we may have missed:

As Judge Mehta stated, "It makes no sense that Congress has the duty to remove a president but they cannot investigate the reasons for his removal."

       Now that Trump told that ABC TV correspondent that he would accept "dirt" on an opponent if the source was a foreign country and that he would not alert the FBI as Al Gore did in 2000, what are the options for the 2020 election?
       
       Trump knows exactly what he is doing. He pushes the envelope to see how much he can get away with and then pushes harder.
       
       But, when he made that statement, not only did he invite foreign government to interfere in the 2020 election but he proved he is insistent on damaging the integrity and transparency of US elections.
       
       If Congress does nothing about this, what's the point in voting in 2020 if Trump knows he will win no matter what our voting tallies state?

             All American voters should be extremely concerned about Trump's flippant and all too free wheeling attitude that seems now to invite any of our hostile adversaries to help him win an election.
             
             Is he that certain he cannot win any other way? What message does that send to the country? That cheating to win is perfectly acceptable so long as he isn't caught?
             
             If nothing is done to remove him as the 2020 election closes in, he knows full well that many voters will not bother to vote believing he will win no matter what. Others will cast votes but feel totally uncertain their votes matter or will be even be counted.
             
             This is why it is long past time to get states to pass the National Popular Vote bill. It would hand the winner of the popular vote in each state the Electoral College votes, thereby closing the only door Trump has to claim he won. It does one other thing, it puts the power of the individual's vote back in our hands and not that of the billionaires who buy the candidates "they" want.
