      You may be right but what's the difference? Kim Jong Il is a tyrant and the people of NK are suffering under his repressive leadership. A regime change would be a benefit to the people of NK and to the world. Sooner or later he'll have to be taken out so that NK can become part of the new world order.

         Quite a few people around the world think the same way about America. It is dangerous to consider 'taking out' those you don't agree with (however right you might be) this is the thinking of 'others' behind the 7/11 atrocity.  All of these kinds of actions are atrocities.
         
         Luckily a grown up on the world stage has an interest in N. Korea and I would expect that regime to settle down to the lure of some kind of assisted progress in the long term - without any violence.

            There won't be any assisted progress with NK, they refuse to become a part of the world community. They are a rogue nation ruled by an outlaw, a blood sucking flea of a country that the world has grown tired of. It's about time this flea is extinguished.

               What if Kim Jong Ill isn't in power anymore and much of his power has been taken over by hard line military?
               
               But I fail to see how this could be different than what the main stream has been saying. Other than implicating the DPRK.
               
               It is obviously a torpedo, the wrh article makes that clear. the DPRK could have been testing a new design, the blueprint that was posted to the web may not be the complete blueprint, there are a whole hosts of reasons why the blueprint and picture don't match. The question is, who fired the torpedo? Which I believe the article fails to state.

               They already get loads of assistance from China who approach them with caution and respect.  Given time they will chill out without any aggressive shit from the most aggressive nation on earth.  The world has not grown tired of Korea, only the hawkish rhetoric of your government who cannot afford any more wars until they have paid China back the loans they used to counter the losses to your country (and the gains to the individuals involved) of the last one.
               
               They are not a rogue nation, they are a sovereign country - and their leader may be a total di****ad but he is not an outlaw. And the last I saw they do not suck blood literally or figuratively.  It is sometimes a good idea to keep aggressive rhetoric in your pants when you are powerless to do anything about the issues, because you can't afford it.

                     Luckily China is deeply civilized with a giant patience.  They appear happy to wait while remaining N.Korea's friend; they send aid, have joint education programmes, exchange students and generally work to persuade N.Korea to start developing.
                     
                     And CMHypno, I think the issue is more about do you want to start another war on China's borders, the whole N/S Korea thing was the same issue as Vietnam, you drew 50/50 in Korea and were beaten in Vietnam. And in those days you had both money and were respected around the world, you have much less of both now. It is time the US stopped pretending to be the worlds policeman, especially after Iraq, nobody buys it anymore-  however few might have been fooled by it in the first place.

            I for one am getting tired of hearing that "quite a few people around the world think the same thing about America."
            
            America has corrected its mistakes when needed,  from INSIDE America,  and most of those mistakes were never as severe as many other nations.   We have a fair Constitution and Bill of Rights and a justice system that usually is held to doing the right thing.  Not always of course, because there are some "citizens" who really don't want to Americans, and are trying to change it, but the basis is good and tried and time-tested.
            
            Just because some people want to disfavorably compare America to other nations doesn't make the comparison correct.
            
            If you wanna know the truth, other nations are looking unfavorably toward America these days because they see America becoming increasingly immoral and demoralized and trying to re-define not only patriotism but also the terms right and wrong.

   Any action taken must be for the good of the people of North Korea and to improve their living standards.  As history shows, starting a war rarely achieves this and will probably mean that a large number of innocent North Koreans get killed.
