Does anybody care anymore?

There aren't too many sacred things anymore, life has taken this turn where everyone can touch so many things that nothing is untouched. Personally my head feels bombarded with information overload. Something I'm sure we've all heard of. Sometimes I'm truly afraid that if we do not choose to keep a few things untouchable, we will have nothing left. It makes me wonder if the accumulation of media, religious, and survival fanatic's attention onto the end of the world is the necessary precedent to an actual event. I feel as if, the earth needs to regurgitate some of what it deems "hazardous" to it's ecological condition.

Anyway, those are my thoughts when I ask if anyone cares. Do you?

I care as well!  It seems hopeless from an individual standpoint.  How do we Change the World when it's the world who seems determined to keep falling.  It does seem like there may be a catastrophic event in our future...  As Devious One posted as well, look at the television shows out nowadays.  "Reality TV" has taken the world by storm, and no one seems to care about knowledgeable information nowadays.  I may have over exaggerated this in my own head, but I'm thinking people used to have in dept conversations about knowledgeable subjects; English, poetry, history, engineering.  But now anyone ever wants to talk about is what happened on Jersey Shore last night or who won the last Cupcake Wars (is that a thing?).  I do know what you mean, and that gives me a bad feeling about the ominous 2012 "Ending."  But maybe they meant an "end" to all the brain-rotting.  smile  (optimistic face with the thumbs up!)

Oh I like that approach! An end to all the brain-rotting. Lol, it may come to survival of the least idiotic.

I don't know if it was ever "better", nostalgia is biased and bittersweet.  There's corruption in the status quo, it's all the same but very different. Eventually we will all have to answer for our past actions. I now know there are others who care and who are aware of the stupidity that pours out of modern media.

Oh well, I'll keep my fingers crossed for that x class solar flare.

Sometimes I feel like bashing my head repeatedly against a desk or other impassive object until I lose consciousness, if that's what you mean.

Lol, as much as that got me smiling, i'm sad to say I can really relate. Except for me it's running down the street (possible naked) screaming, laughing, and tearing my hair out.

Haha, in all seriousness though sometimes I just feel this crushing hopelessness. I'm not depressed, so it's not that-- I'm really a very optimistic person; one of those obnoxious kinds who finds the positive in everything... that being said though, every now and again I feel hopeless when I consider all the opposing and negative forces in the world and how vast everything is when I am so small.

It's really a very humbling experience. I wonder if I can do any good or leave my mark anywhere.

Of course you can, and you do. Optimists are a natural, energizing magnet.

I'm quite annoyed how so much of the world is focused on business instead of the environment. The Australian economy is being held together by the mining sector and that's what the politicians seem to be relying on at the moment to keep the economy strong. All this at the expense of nature and moving people from one place to another so the businesses can keep expanding and supporting the economy.

I don't think people care anymore. Take a look at the quality of television programs and movies these days. If you take into account the creativity and brilliance behind a lot of works these days, it has certainly gone downhill. It's the same with everything - the quality of consumables as well as most other things.

Things aren't looking on the up in my eyes

One of the reasons behind why I asked this question, was because I was thinking about how the Hubpages Community is being overrun by money hungry morons, who write without passion or any sort of imagination. I know everything is good for business, but well this whole globalization thing is getting a bit tiring.

Well there are a lot of hubs which don't seem to have much quality content to them. I think at the end of the day, if someone can share a valid and worthwhile opinion, then I'm all ears. Quite a few hubs seem to go almost unnoticed. The other unfortunate thing is that sometimes the quality hubs go unnoticed too, because not so many people are following the author in comparison to average hubs where the hubber has hundreds of followers.

Liberty makes me passionate, and the fight against tyranny keeps me going.

    Yes, I care. A lot.

I think many people care. I guess it's more does anyone take action and use their voice?  Some of us do  it in our professions, with our writing, our families.

But yes, there are times when I wonder if I'm visiting an alien planet.. it's sad.

Well said rebekahELLE. People aren't prepared to risk their jobs or pride in some cases. Too afraid to stand up for what is right.

I've found that to be the biggest problem thus far, that everybody isn't stuck in this "bystander" effect where a person could be screaming for help while on fire in the middle of a crowd and no one does anything. I honestly do not understand this fear that paralyzes people to move, yell, should, agree, or disagree.

On one hand, there has been motion, on the other hand, resistance to change is evolving to a new unbearable and extreme level.
