i am interested in all opinions here from male and female, cop, soldier and citizen...thank you
I don't see why not if they're tough enough to take the heat. I would be unwilling to have standards lowered to allow for the female's lesser stature and strength (in most cases).
Women has equal rights with men of today. Either cops or soldiers if she knows she can handle the responsibility I don't think being a women is a big matter.
The red army used female soldiers particularly female snipers with great results, the women were tough as nails and often more successful than the men, Lyudmila Pavlichenko for example was a female soviet sniper in Stalingrad (probably the toughest battle seen in the modern age) and has 309 confirmed kills to her name most of them of Nazi lieutenants and officers, there is no doubt in my mind that women can be excellent soldiers and policewomen, having said that I don't think standards should be lowered for them or that either force should be expected to have a certain proportion of them, instead if they are tough enough and pass the same restrictions as a man would then they should be accepted. Unfortunately when and where i did my military service there were no women in the army at all so I can't speak with personal experience but the historical proof is evidence enough.
I think women should be anything they want and my sister was a good cop for years before joining the prosecutor's office
I too believe women should pursue whatever profession they desire. At the same time, we have a responsibility to ourselves in terms of soldiers and police (as well as firemen) to be sure that we do not lower the standards for the job just to bring the gender diversity...people's lives may depend on that very factor one day thus it cannot be ignored. On that basis, if the woman is up to the task, then she deserves the opportunity to fill the position. WB
They should have the opportunity to be whatever they want to be, just as everyone else should.
One of the best cops I know is a 4'11" female. She's smart, tough, and fair.
Ok. I guess there's a lot to be said for personal character over stature. But IMO, war is a man's game in the trenches except when it comes to defending her own.
I saw her challenged by a very large, powerful principal at our school once. He didn't think she could do her job because of her size. She had him subdued and in cuffs in nothing flat! It was too funny.
Should a woman be president?
Yeah right, she wouldn't be out there on the front lines, but she would be pushing the buttons for those who are.
I did like Demi Moore in that movie "G.I.Jane" I think was the title.
Actually, I just did a hub featuring women in the military. It's a good thing.
There are certainly going to be positions--I'm thinking mostly frontline military--that require a minimum level of physical strength and thus will tend to have fewer qualifying women than men, but there's never a reason to discriminate purely in the basis of gender in any field.
Absolutely not! Women should cook, clean and birth children. Why should they be allowed to carry guns? Everyone knows that after taking care of too many babies and men they are not emotionally stable! :-)
When carrying guns women tend to behave like men asa if they wanted to emulate them. Women with guns don't bother me as long as they stay feminine.
I think it can be more risky for women to be soldiers/cops compared to men (the risk of rape being the main issue). But if a woman wants a job in these career fields no one should have the power to stop her.. and a woman can certainly do just as good of a job as a man.
Why not, they can be tough mentally and physically! They can do other jobs in the military to help the cause.
