How Mum keeps the bugs from biting!

Updated on May 8, 2014

Living in the mountains of north Georgia, we encounter lots and lots of bugs! From ticks, to chiggers, to mosquitoes to no-see-ems, to these really odd little gnat looking things that bite Mum's ankles and make them swell so she can't walk for a day. Guess Mum's allergic to that little bug.

So what does Mum use to combat all the nasties when we are on a hike, playing in the yard around our cabin and just hanging out with us on the back deck? She uses California Baby Summer Lotion.

Over the past few years Mum has tried a wide variety of products to help keep the nasties from biting her. But when she found California Baby she stopped looking! Why? Because it's all natural, safe, deet-free and non-toxic....just like she likes...and it works!

California Baby contains a wide variety of organic and sustainable ingredients, like: organic calendula, organic canola oil, organic safflower oil, olive, organic aloe, pansy extract, yucca, cactus, and pure essential oils of citronella, lemongrass, and cedar.

It has citronella, so it's just a tad smelly, but the smelly scent goes away quickly after she rubs it on, so even Gracie and I don't really notice. And when Mum does get a little bug bite, the calendula in the lotion really soothes the bite and stops the itching really quickly.

A little goes a long way and even though we encounter lots and lots of bugs, Mum only goes through one bottle a season. But the best part? It's safe for me to lick her legs after she puts it on, BOL!

What does Mum use to help keep the buggie nasties off of Gracie and I, and out of our yard?

Earth Heart's Buzz Guard is a great spray for dogs that helps combat bugs of all kinds! We spray on a bandanna or our hiking harnesses and we're good to go!

Food Grade DEarth is a staple at our house. We sprinkle it in our yard in the spring and keep it sprinkled on the fence perimeter throughout tick season. And we add to the corners and closets of our cabin to keep the scorpions at bay!
