Dolphin Conservation in Kenya

Updated on November 7, 2013

Volunteer in Kenya

Kenya's incredible natural environment and cultural heritage is almost unmatched in Africa. If you're adventurous - and sensible - it promises the globe's most magnificent wildlife parks, unsullied beaches, thriving coral reefs, memorable mountain scapes, and ancient Swahili cities.

The Global Volunteer Network currently has opportunities to help develop communities through our partner organization in Kenya.

GVN serves you to arrange an affordable volunteer opportunity with peace of mind, finanical security, and is a great way for you to contribute to the global community, gain experience, and also fosters personal growth.

Our vision is to support the work of local community organizations in developing countries through the placement of international volunteers. We believe that local communities are in the best position to determine their needs, and we provide volunteers to help them achieve their goals.

Dolphin Conservation Project

Volunteers help to conduct survey work, and have the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of the marine eco-system around the island, making a real contribution to ensure the long-term conservation of this area.

This conservation program focuses on surveys which are conducted from a boat to collect data on dolphin populations, behavior and location.

In addition you may also snorkel on colorful coral reefs to survey tropical reef fish and turtles.

Volunteer tasks include:

* Collecting population and distribution data on marine mammals

* Determining residence rates and habitat relationships

* Assessing current human impact on dolphins and whales

* Assisting partners in developing a 'code of conduct'
