Love Your Neighbor as Yourself
According to Wikipedia, Love is a mixture of feelings ranging from an interpersonal affection to pleasure. It can also refer to emotions and attraction to persons of the opposite sex. Love is giving unselfishly or showing kindness to others in a compassionate way.
"Who is my neighbor?” When we speak about the word neighbor, we think about those directly around us. However, this phrase is saying, love humankind or everyone, as you would love your own self. A typical example how we treat others is found in a text from the Bible. The text can be read in Luke 10:25-37, it speaks about a man who was beaten, robbed and left for dead on the side of the road. A few people passed by but rendered no assistance. One of the passersby went as far as to cross to the other side of the road just to avoid the injured man. However, there was a man who had compassion and helped the wounded man by nursing him. The story does not end there, it continues with the Good Samaritan seeking shelter and paying for his bills. This is a true example of how we should with each other.
In order to love one must be able to forgive. If we are consumed by anger and hatred for someone who might have done us wrong, you will not be able love. If we as human beings can abide by this simple rule, we can live a happy and peaceful life. The world would definitely be a better place to live in. The World is the way it is today with crime because of the lack of willingness to forgive, no one wants to turn the other cheek or walk away.
In order to love one must also be a Good Samaritan to others. Give to those less fortunate than yourself or assist where you can. Instead of crossing to the other side of the road or being scornful to the poor, show some love by rendering assistance to a brother or sister in need. Maybe you do not have money to give. There are other ways you can be a Good Samaritan to others. Many of us have the talent of singing, writing or even cooking that can use to help others by way of encouragement.
"Love thy neighbor as thyself", is simply saying, do unto another, as you would have them do to you. In addition, if you love yourself you should love your neighbor the same.
