Meet the Modern Bohemian: PonchoMeg

I am a bit of a modern day Bohemian-Hippie. Short on money, super creative, peace loving, romantic, poetic, and emotional, I live each day in wonder.

"Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today." -James Dean

But the modern world is a hard place for a Modern Bohemian like me. It's full of technology and pollution and obsessed with money, money, money. So what is a Modern Bohemian to do? I find ways to make the two worlds meet.

I am living a Bohemian lifestyle in the age of technology. How? Step into my world for a moment, and I will tell you.

First of all I understand that technology is important.

Yay for technology!

So many opportunities have opened up for creative types like me because of technology. Here is a list of some examples to illustrate what I mean.

Music- My boyfriend is a DJ and writes his own music electronically! Amazing! Bohemians in Puccini's day did not have that kind of opportunity! Not only can music be made using technology, it can be sold and bought (I-tunes anyone) and carried with you at all times! Crazy!

Social Networking- I love that I can stay in contact with my friends and meet so many new people because of the internet. There are sites completely devoted to social networking! (Facebook, Myspace, etc.)

Business- Just about anyone can have their own business nowadays. Whether it is full time, part time, or just supplemental income, technology has made business possible for the average person. Pretty cool. I myself have two businesses and also make money with other online endeavors. I work part time, but now I have options that I would not have had even twenty years ago to make extra money on the side.

Going green- Being able to publish online means saving paper. Buying songs online saves on packaging. Not to mention, I can write as many poems, songs, short stories, and books as I want without using paper or pencil... I just save them on my laptop. Plus, the internet has valuable tips and resources for going green, including resources that allow you to buy and sell used goods. (Craigslist, Ebay, etc.)

There is more, but I am sure that you're starting to see the benefits here.

I make use of technology in my daily life! - From freelance writing to acting to modeling to music, technology helps keep my passions alive!

Meagan, a modern bohemian and a freelance creative spirit, living in this modern age of technological advancement...

As a creative person, it is only natural that I have many different creative endeavors. I sing, write music, teach, play trombone, write poems, songs, books, short stories, articles, etc. I make arts and crafts, bath and body products, and I love to cook! I enjoy photography, film, tv, fashion, and traveling. I model, I act on stage, on television shows, and in movies, and I crochet...the list goes on and on.

The coolest thing about technology is being able to make something of my creative endeavors.

Most notably, I am currently a freelance writer, a model, an extra, a crafter, an artist, a musician, and an advocate for peace and love. How can I do all this at once? Technology.

I do almost all of my freelance writing work online, and the stuff I do offline is usually on my computer (NOTE: I do still use paper, napkins, hands, and anything else I can find when I'm inspired. I may be modern, but I'm still a bohemian after all...), I model for my blog and for other websites, all my "extra" opportunities are e-mailed to me, I sell my arts and crafts on Etsy.com, I create electronic music in addition to acoustic music, I post my music on Youtube, and I am able to spread peace and love all over the world through the use of my computer, my cell phone, my digital camcorder, my digital camera, etc.

Take a look at how technology is helping me to succeed in my efforts to share my creativity, peace, and love:

"Hey... it's alright" - A modern hippie anthem

I love that technology gave me the ability to share this song and video with people all over the world.

I don't let the "real world" get me down.

I find beauty everywhere...

The modern hustle and bustle of the world is a bit much for me. Like I said, I appreciate technology and of course I appreciate money (gotta pay the rent somehow!) but I know that there are other things that are more important.

There is natural beauty in the world all around us if we only open our eyes to see it. Nature, art, music, love, family, friendships, peace, happiness, spirituality... these are the things that are truly important to me, and I make sure that I make time to appreciate them.

I know who I am! - And I love me.

I love myself!

I may not always be the most confident person in the world, but I know who I am inside. I appreciate that I am special, different, unique, and maybe a little crazy. It makes me who I am and no one else can be just like me, which is pretty groovy.

I am PonchoMeg!

Here's a little look at what I really like in life.

Music, Poetry, Romance, Art, Movies, TV, Books, Love, Peace, Crocheting, Making jewelry, Making bath and body products, Writing, Singing, Playing trombone and piano, Teaching, Talking, Cuddling, Flirting, Kissing, Being independent and free, Trying new things, Hanging out with friends, Jam sessions, Photography, Photo shoots, Meeting new people, Karaoke, Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling, Shopping (especially at Goodwill, Plato's Closet, and Vintage stores), Open mic nights, Street entertainers (I love that my boyfriend can juggle!), Originality, Fun, Pets, Volunteer Work, Facebook, Ehow, List My Five, Twitter, Etsy, Squidoo, Life, Nature, Beauty, Freedom, Organic produce, Monkeys, Squirrels, Babies, Family, Spirituality Religious texts, Creativity, Happiness, Bowling, Garage Sales, Picnics, Walks, Frankenmuth, Lava Lamps, Moccasins, Gluten-free Food, Etc.Etc.Etc.

I believe in love...

"All you need is love." -The Beatles

I love to love. My true goal in life is to love all living things. Sometimes it is hard to find the good in something, but I feel like if I try hard enough, even if I don't succeed at meeting my goal, I will still be a better person for trying just because love is so important. I must love myself, love those close to me, and love the people and creatures of the world.

"True love is boundless like the ocean and, swelling within one, spreads itself out and, crossing all boundaries and frontiers, envelops the whole world."

-MK Gandhi

I try to share my love whenever I can. I give it to my boyfriend, my family, my friends, and to my little sweetheart, Ava. Ava is my cat. I adopted her from the ASPCA in 2007 and she has helped me to be even more loving than I ever was before. I got her at a very hard time in my life, and loving her and taking care of her helped me through that time and opened my eyes to the light in front of me.

I use technology to help the world...

Never has it been so easy to make a difference!

I believe in making the world a better place; in spreading peace, love, creativity, and positivity across the globe. I believe in giving money to the poor, food to the hungry, support to the weak, and hope to those who have lost it. I personally donate money, time, and effort to many charitable organizations and groups, including the ASPCA, The March of Dimes, The Human Rights Campaign, Greenpeace, and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

I use technology to shop!

I can get Moulin Rouge right on Amazon... Wow! Technology!

This is a photo of me from 2009. I might be hugging a tree.A cool waterfall from the back.Like a monkey, I am!Pretty light coming through the tree.I was drawn to this bench in Tennessee. I had to take a picture. My hometown: Eaton Rapids, MI. See how beautiful our world is?My baby Boo Boo!! This is my cat, Ava, who is more like my child than my pet, but whatever... I adopted her from the ASPCA in 2007, and she is laying on me as I type this.A pretty flower I saw at my cousin's wedding. Some art I made on the computer. Technology strikes again! But in another good way.My homemade Halloween costume (2010). I may be a poor hippie, but I can make some sweet costumes with no money whatsoever. (And I can then post the pics of those sweet costumes online for all to see... thanks to technology.)

      Hi Meagan,

I am also a free spirit. I grew up in the 60s/70s. I am a believer, not a deceiver.

I enjoyed reading your articles on eHow. Thank you for your email. rrrc. I am in the process of writing more articles and setting up my website so can't get back to people as soon as I would like. Love and peace.

I gotta hand it to you. You have it going on. I loved this read, most especially about love and knowing who you are.

Anyone in these parts will tell you I am a loud trumpeter of personal branding that smacks of the honest wysiwyg variety.

Looks to me like you have nearly achieved zen. I envy you.

Smell the smoke of a burn-out blessing?

Thanks for sharing how you live a "technilogical" Bohemian lifestyle. Living a simple life no longer means isolation and doing without. Great lens.

Love this lens. As a still-rockin' hippie from the ' 60s, I'm so glad, I'm glad, I'm glad the tradition goes on!

Self-aware indulgence in consumer culture with a side of issue activism seems to describe the modern Bohemian lifestyle. I don't mean for this to sound like an attack because it isn't. More of an observation stripped to its basest language.
