Expatriette Costume: my Cosplay (or Halloween costume)

Updated on June 11, 2014

Cosplay from my favorite Table Top Game

My husband and I were invited to a costume birthday party. The catch was, all the costumes had to be boardgame/table top game themed. I had my Firefly and Dr. Who costumes, but I wanted something really gamer for this party.

Then I realized that we could cosplay characters from our favorite new game: Sentinels of the Multiverse.

Here's how I made myself up as Expatriette, the gun-doting daughter of villain Citizen Dawn.

The Scholar and Expatriette - My husband and I before heading to the party

Here's the character from her character card

In the game, each hero has his or her own deck with unique abilities and game play for that particular character. Expatriette's mother had special powers, which she uses for evil. When Expatriette was born without any powers, she was rejected by her family. So her game play is all about lots and lots of guns.

This character could not be more different from myself, a passivist, quiet Hindu. But that's part of the beauty of cosplay: playing around with being someone entirely different for a short period of time.

My husband's character: The Scholar

My husband's favorite character to play is The Scholar. He's pretty much The Dude from The Big Lebowski and is very familiar to Buddhists like my husband! Unlike my choice to dress as someone very different from myself, he likes how similar The Scholar is to himself.

How I Got My Costume

The decision of what to dress as was a bit last minute, so I scrambled to get everything together. I bought nearly everything at Amazon with next-day shipping!

I already had some purple eye shadow and a deep berry lipstick.

I had no idea how much fun wigs could be. With my hip-length hair, I never expected to be able to wear a little bob wig like this, but it was perfect! It even came with a mesh wig-cap to help contain my real hair. I'm definitely going to be getting more wigs!

In the future I might modify my navy top to have a teal stripe on it, but this is the basic idea of what Expatriette would wear

Ideally I'd get purple cargo pants, but purple pants of any variety are a bit tricky to find!

I got two nerf guns. They aren't as realistic looking, but they're really fun.

When we got to the party, we discovered another Sentinels character! - We weren't the only ones cosplaying from Sentinels of the Multiverse

We'd never met before, but had plenty to talk about with our new friend who was dressed as Legacy (a superman-like character).

We played a couple of games as the characters we were dressed as. It was an awesome combo and we beat two different difficult villains with their extra-difficulty mode!
