About SL PeaceFest
From Second Life to Real Life and Back again
PeaceFest '08 is a global, interfaith, cross-cultural effort to create lasting peace through mobilizing support and learning with RL Peace organizations. We envision a Woodstock-style gathering and celebration, with All proceeds from PeaceFest '08 going to benefit several charities including Amnesty International, UNICEF, the World Peace Organization, ONE.org, the World Council On Religions and Peace and Kids for Peace.
This event represents a true cross-over from RL to SL and back again as we bring RL speakers in-world to discuss peace related initiatives in our global, open and free SL forum. Musicians and speakers will be streamed into SL while panel discussions and performances are streamed back out.
On August 15, 16, and 17 of 2008, a benefit event for world-wide peace will take place in SL. In addition to panel discussions about peace, this PeaceFest will include the best in live SL music, synchronous RL performances, some of the most outstanding in SL art, and other live events (such as magic shows and dancing), all to benefit real-life, peace-related organizations of the artists' choice.
We appreciate any amount you wish to contribute!

If this sounds like an interesting project to you, please consider donating some of your time or talent to the effort. We need:
-ARTISTS: If you are an artist and are willing to donate your work toward a real-life peace-related effort, please contact Tonks Akina.
-SL PEACE GROUPS: If you are a peace group in SL, please consider being a part of this project. You will be able to share your own efforts toward making our world a more peaceful place. Please contact Cotton Thorne for more information.
-Help with PUBLICITY, including business issues such as copyright laws. We have a class of MBA students taking this on at the moment, but would welcome additional help.
-Help RESEARCH real-life peace causes to assist artists in choosing worthy projects to support. This group needs to create criteria by which we can consider a real-life project worthy, including how much of the funding goes directly to benefit those who need it, rather than organizational costs. This group may also track the results of our efforts in the real-life organizations.
-Help wth designing the PANEL DISCUSSIONS, including an inter-faith exploration of religions' role in war and peace. We hope to bring some new folks to sl for these discussions.
-SL RELGIOUS GROUPS please consider helping in this effort by recommending theologians and leaders for the panel discussions. We also need folks willing to coordinate vigils, meditations and minutes of global silence (no proselytizing is permitted).
How you can help!
