Spring Brunch Fundraiser
Ticket for Spring Brunch
Friends of the Park Spring Brunch In Pendleton SC
Our Spring Brunch Fundraiser is an Invitation Only Event. This will be the 5th year for the Spring Brunch Fundraiser and now we are looking forward to the Spring Brunch 2014 on May 3. This year the proceeds have been designated to benefit the Veterans Memorial at Veterans Park and we have a full house with 20 sponsors. Isn't that fantastic? We are excited that Miss Pendleton and Miss Pendleton Teen will be joining us and are looking forward to hearing our speaker, Reverend Jeremy Bell. Wanda Batten has volunteered to cater this event and is planning a delicious brunch. This year we concentrated totally on the Veterans Memorial which will be dedicated on November 11, 2014. We are now selling engraved pavers that can be purchased to honor a Veteran and we had these for sale at the brunch. Be sure to remind your table guests to bring money for this and to purchase tickets for the wonderful prizes. This is an Invitation Only Event meaning that the only way anyone can come is to either be a Table Sponsor or be one of the invited guests of a Table Sponsor. Tickets are not sold to the general public or at the door. The thing that makes this fundraiser a success is all the people involved.

Missy Nail recognized as the first chairperson for Friends of the Park - A little History Lesson
In October 2002, concerned citizens came together to explore means of creating a healthier environment in which to live. These citizens met with staff from AnMed Health Systems, DHEC and Partners for a Healthy Community. This meeting resulted in the formation of Pendleton Pride in Motion. A coordinating council was elected: Powell Hickman, Jo McConnell, Lynne Parker, Greg Gilstrap, Bill Parker, Teri Gilstrap, Scott Ward, Ed Kirkley and Dan Jepson. In 2004, this council began the process for the building of Barrett's Place Playground. They contracted with Leathers and Associates of Ithaca, NY and in October 2005, Barrett's Place was built by community volunteers in 5 days with funds raised through numerous fundraisers and donations. On March 23, 2006 Pendleton Pride in Motion held a community meeting to organize Friends of the Park. Lynne Parker had designed the logo and membership decals were distributed. The following officers were elected:Missy Nail - ChairpersonBill Parker - V ChairJoan Kelly - SecretaryKim and Bill Beck - TreasurerThe first official meeting of the newly organized Friends of the Park was held in May 2006 and much was accomplished that first year under Missy's leadership. Missy was determined to make "Friends of the Park" a well known organization. T-shirts, Sweatshirts, and Throws were sold and many volunteers are still wearing these today. The organization was involved in the Independence Day Celebration which led to it's taking over the event and naming it Freedom Fest in the following years. In October of that first year, FOTP sponsored a circus as one of it's fundraisers and created the first Friends of the Park brochure. The first year was an important one as FOTP strived to build a working relationship with the Town of Pendleton and Pendleton Recreation Association, recruit new members, raise money, set goals, and increase the awareness of the master plan for Veterans Park.In 2010, PPIM felt that it was time for Friends of the Park to become an independent organization and in February 2010, FOTP received its 501c3 non profit status. Much has been accomplished since those early beginnings and we don't want to ever forget how we got to where we are today and why.

The Spring Brunch Fundraiser in it's planning stages
The Spring Brunch Committee of Friends Of The Park will meet at the regular Friends of the Park meeting on February 18, 2013 at 6:30 at Pendleton United Methodist Church to finalize plans.Spring Brunch Planning Committee 2013Food - Lorett Hayes with Davie and ReginaSigns - KernSocial Hall Coordinator - Davie, Monnell, Mark, Chris and EdSponsors - Nancy and KimEntertainment - Joan and Mary JoDrawing Prizes and Tickets - Kim Beck, Karen Link, Wanda HughesTickets and Information Packets- Kim Beck, and Nancy HellamsClean Up - EveryoneKim Beck completed the paper work to reserve the Social Hall at Pendleton United Methodist Church for that date. The Palmer Social Hall at Pendleton United Methodist Church was reserved at no cost since 2 of our Executive Board Members are also church members. A donation was made to the church from a member in the name of Friends of the Park to cover the janitorial services. The Spring Brunch Committee was thrilled when Lorett Hayes announced that she would once again donate the food for this event. Her generosity will certainly help make this fundraiser a success. Lorett is the former owner of 1826 On The Green Restaurant at Farmers Hall and is an excellent chef so we know the food will be wonderful.
