Kindness of Strangers

Updated on June 2, 2012

Touch is a television series about a father (Kiefer Sutherland) and a son (David Masouz) who unlocks the mystery of unsolved cases through numbers. The child has a disability which doesn't allow him to communicate verbally. But his disability allows him to connect people's lives through number sequencing. Jake jots down the numbers in his notebook. The numbers have a meaning to the people Jake wants his father (Martin Baum) to reconnect with. Last Thursday was the two hour season finale. Jake wants his dad to find a missing girl named Amelia who was presumed dead. Jake wrote the numbers 2217 which happens to be the case number of Amelia. Amelia's father believes that his daughter is dead, but her mother thinks otherwise. Jake has a way of turning the events around. He enlists the people Martin Baum helped find closure in their lives. These people helped Martin track Amelia in Los Angeles. The episode ended with a cliffhanger. Martin and Jake went to a beach and met Amelia's mom. The plot will be continued in the next season. A character uttered an adage that I have been hearing for quite sometime. There are no coincidences. Oprah has mentioned this saying dozens of times on her show. I am struggling to understand why there are no coincidences. What causes people to interact with strangers? I never thought I would rely on the kindness of strangers. When I came to this country, strangers have helped me change the course of my life. I have met strangers who helped me when I was stuck in a sticky situation. I have been having trust issues for as long as I can remember. I never thought I could trust a complete stranger to go out on a limb for me to get me out of an uncomfortable situation. Is there a reason why we need strangers in our lives? Good Samaritans are a needle in a haystack. Just like in the show Touch, Martin and Jake Baum help strangers reconnect with the people they have lost contact with. People walk in and out of our lives for a reason. They don't necessarily have to live with us for 24/7. A stranger's kindness can lead to a resolution of conflicts. The reason why people come into our lives is to teach us a lesson. We all have unresolved issues. Sometime's we need a person's generosity to bring closure. Strangers are more than just people who lend a helping hand. We need to connect with people to heal our wounds. I am not saying that we should give our complete trust to people we hardly know. The purpose of this article is to be on the lookout for signs that God is giving us. God has a way of talking to us. He sends his guardian angels to reach out. God's grace comes in the form of the kindness of strangers.
