The Model United Nations Organization

Updated on February 11, 2013

Actually useful?

Many people believe that the United Nations are the biggest multinational organization in the world at this moment – they are right. But a very important affiliate of the United Nations should not be neglected – the Model United Nations.

With more than 300 world wide conferences a year, the biggest in The Hague in the Netherlands attracting more than 4000 young adults, the Model United Nations Organization is the most practical and inspiring collective union of conferences, schools, universities and colleges. The conferences, lasting between 1 and 7 days, provide the participants to experience the world of politics within the United Nations. Basically, they are a simulation of the United Nations. Schools, colleges, universities prepare separately by researching, writing, think-tanking and resolving present issues and problems which the world must combat to get as close as possible to the utopian goal of world peace. Each educational institution represents a nation member of the United Nations. At the conferences the resolutions are discussed, voted upon and either pass or fail. This is where the debate arises. A resolution passes but has no lasting consequences say critics. However that is not completely true. A number of resolutions do reach the real United Nations in New York and the ideas are taken into consideration. The resolutions show the world that the new generation is ready to become the new politicians, economists, even world leaders. The results of each conference raise awareness, alert people of overhanging dangers, political issues or the need for charity.

Take for example, THIMUN (The Hague International Model United Nations) allows for more than 4000 young adults from all over the world to meet, debate, discuss, establish long lasting connections and even friends for life. THIMUN educates its participants in political language, debating techniques and even shows the negative sides of world politics.

The Model United Nations are a very important affiliate of the United Nations as it gives the opportunity to all wishing to prepare for a life of politics, education, governmental employment and even simple communication skill. MUN prepares the new generation to replace the leading generation at the moment and inspires young adults to solve present issues and even hinder future problems.
