To President Barack Obama

Updated on December 7, 2017

Dear Ex President Obama

Update: I realized after 8 years Obama already knew all these problems, had all the resources to solve them and make them better but unfortunately for America made it all worse. I had written this when I still believed that America couldn't possibly be as bad off as it seemed but I was wrong. Watching the media outright lies, the propaganda, the lack of respect for our own laws made me realize it was time to vote for the candidate who loves America and would work with all of his might to Make America Great Again. I leave the letter here to show you that Americans wanted Obama to succeed, we aren't racists, haters or uneducated. We just didn't see what was happening. Once we did 2016 gave us a chance to take our country back.

The Original letter as follows:

Dear President Obama,

You don't know me and probably will never read this but I wanted to share some of my thoughts about life in the greatest nation in the world. The United States of America, my country, your country.

I didn't vote for you in 2008, but that's okay. You are as much my President and leader as anyone else's, after all this is America where we get the right to vote and when the votes are in and counted it doesn't matter how you voted, only how we move on with our new respected President at the helm of our country. I say all of this with all of the respect you deserve as our President, and all of the respect you have earned the last couple of years showing you truly do wish for the best for every American and for that I do salute you.

But we do have some serious problems going on in America today, and although I know you are working on it all, We The People, The Republic For Which You Stand, are really getting a little worried. I have some concerns, about my 401K and what will be left of it. About my children grown and educated, working hard to earn a living, hold on to a job and pay a mortgage. About my grandchildren and what the future of this great country will hold for them.

National Debt Surviving The Recession
National Debt Surviving The Recession

The National Debt Problem

As of December 12, 2012, the U.S. national debt is $16,380,727,647,510.71 Yes that's trillions of dollars. Give or take a couple of cents I guess.

How in the world are we going to pay that off? And how are we going to stop adding to it? I guess we could all chip in but the numbers come out to something like If you divide up the national debt equally among all U.S. households, each one owes over $125,000. I don't know about you, but I don't happen to have that much extra laying around to chip in. Since you no longer earn interest on your saved money, you can't earn any in the stock market and the job market is not looking good, I'm not guessing I will have it anytime soon either.

We get that Americans have to suck it up and that things are rough right now, but I am respectfully letting you know, I really don't want you to increase my taxes even more than they are. I can't afford to give you more. I know you are trying to bail us all out, but I don't think it should be through our own pockets, taking away from our own families. There just has to be another way.

Fund Raising Like Franklin D. Roosevelt

Fund raising has existed for thousands of years and is not new in America. During wars and even the Great Depression Americans were asked to donate no matter how little to help other Americans, to help the War Veterans, to chip in to fund the war expenses. Some great Americans have been willing to think outside the box to come up with ways for Americans to help America without pulling money they already didn't have out of pockets that were already giving so much.

There are no other people in the world like Americans who are willing to give so much to so many. Surely they would be willing to find ways to help raise money for their own country.

One perfect example Mr. President is to look back at some past American Presidents like President Franklin D. Roosevelt who in 1941 founded the USO and brought together six civilian organizations: the Salvation Army, Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA), National Catholic Community Service, National Travelers Aid Association and the National Jewish Welfare Board. Then he called upon the Organization, American Leaders and the American people to raise the private, non-government funds to make this a success.

And the people came together and showed what they could do. Politicians, farmers, philantropists and the working people put their heart and soul into making this work. Some by becoming admistrators, some by donating money both large amounts and small, some by donating their barns and homes, some by baking donuts and donating coffee. All for an American Cause. For America, By America.

And those that contributed heavily to the success of the cause were and still are, our American Entertainers. President Ronald Regan starred in the first movie that was made to assist the USO cause and toured with shows around the World to raise money for the USO and the Army efforts, all before he was President. Great Hollywood entertainers became great because America offers them incredible opportunities, money, fame and respect. Great Hollywood entertainers like Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra and most notably dedicated of course, Bob Hope were happy to give back to the people and the Country that had given them so much.

121212 Concert Hurricane Sandy - This Is Kinda Personal For Me

Springsteen and Bon Jovi Jersey Boys
Springsteen and Bon Jovi Jersey Boys

I am overwhelmed. I started this lens about two years ago and tonight it is December 12, 2012. 12/12/12. The night the stars, bright shining stars got together to help those deeply impacted by Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey and New York.

Thousands of people with no homes, houses to be repaired. Personal belongs lost, treasured personal belongings destroyed. The Jersey Shore wiped away. Over 100 people died. Hospitals had to be evacuated. Communities washed out.

This is pretty personal to me. I am a firefighter in Central NJ, about 30 miles away from the Jersey Shore. I was on duty during Hurricane Sandy as was all available firefighters, police and EMT's expecting the storm. Most of us have seen some good ones before. Noreasters, hurricanes, blizzards. After 18 years as a firefighter I have seen some rough ones. This was beyond words. It was days before I could break away to go home because there were so many emergencies. Even when I did my home had no power for another four days. No traffic lights to help cross intersections of major highways made responding to calls a dangerous challenge. No gas stations had power. No groceries. No banks had power. Tough times. Most of the community had no power. Trees down on houses. On electrical wires still live in the street. But with all that I lived through, the devastation suffered by so many others in New York and New Jersey makes it all pale in comparison.

Springsteen. Bon Jovi. Together! In a concert to raise money to help these victims of Hurricane Sandy! The concert isn't even over yet I am watching it as I write this. The Who, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones! Adam Sandler, Billy Crystal, Billy Joel. I have no words. At the start of the concert I think they had already raised over 38 million dollars just from ticket sales. Madison Square Garden!

They expect over 2 billion people to be watching this concert. Can you imagine if even half gave $1.00. The money is all going to the Robin Hood Relief Fund and that means 100% of the money will go to the people who need it. Here's the link to the concert main page: Concert For Hurricane Sandy

This is what I am talking about. Please President Obama, consider some of these great ideas. You have great advisors to help with logistics. Celebrities on the phones taking pledges - NY Rangers, SNL Cast, Whoopie (love her!) Goldberg, so many I can't name them all.

Don't raise our taxes. Don't make our cost of living go up. Don't even ask the millionaire/billionaires to give more money, unless they want to of course. Ask them for their time. Their resources. Their buildings to use. Let them use the wonderful talents they have to give back to the country who made them the millionaires they are.

Look. It can be done. It is being done right now. Governor Christie, you rock for taking care of New Jersey and for your pride in your State.

Photo Credit: Today MSNBC/MSN The full slide show is available by clicking the photo of Jersey Boys Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi. Thank you both, I'm proud to be a Jerseyan too.

USA Patriotism

Pride in the USA is even more important because of our wonderful freedom of speech. Being a patriotic American means you love your country, but it doesn't mean you have to love everything going on. Be involved, get new and better laws passed and never forget to Vote.

Looking To The Stars For Help

Mr. President never before in history has any presidential candidate been so supported, so verbally and monetarily backed by the greatest stars. The Movie Stars in Hollywood, the Rock Stars, the Broadway Stars, the TV Stars, Literary Stars, the Internet Genius Stars. The Greatest Stars On Earth.

Raising their voices loud at gala events, concerts, on TV, in the Newspapers and community events the Stars came together to support the man they believed in to lead the country they love. Raising money both by donating and holding fundraisers that brought in unprecedented amounts of campaign dollars to back an American campaign with success like never seen before.

Could the Stars shine bright to help America pay off their debt? Could they come together to show you, the President of the United States of America, that they backed and believed in, how much more they are willing to do? Could they come together to thank all the Americans that pay all that money for their music, concerts, movies, novels and TV shows on Cable for making them the Stars they are, giving them the incredible amount of publicity, money and fame they have?

I mean would they get together and offer their talents to the American people and donate the proceeds to pay off the American Debt?

Oh yes it can be done. It has been done. We just haven't thought about doing it to bail out our own country.

Host Some Telethons

The telethon held in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks against New York and the Pentagon, hosted by George Clooney, raised about $150 million. Americans helping Americans in big ways and small ways.

Another big telethon took place after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005, that raised about $40 million dollars.

NBC and its affiliated networks broadcast a telethon in aid of victims of the Asian tsunami in 2005, smaller scale and still raising $18 million.

The "We Are The World Concert" brought in about $127 million dollars and the promotion of merchandise aided the success of "We Are the World" and raised over $63 million in addition to that for humanitarian aid in Africa and the US

US film and pop stars have led a huge fundraising appeal for Haiti's earthquake victims. The "Hope for Haiti Now" show, which was broadcast live across the world, was held in Los Angeles, New York and London.

The star-studded "Hope for Haiti" telethon raised a record-breaking $58 million plus, featuring some 130 celebrities, including Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Sting and Wyclef Jean. The event had been organised by American actor George Clooney, who said the Haitian people had to know they were not alone. A number of celebrities answered the phones and recorded donor calls.

What is the difference between a taxidermist and a tax collector? The taxidermist takes only your skin. ~Mark Twain, Notebook, 1902

"The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax." - Albert Einstein, physicist

Focusing your life solely on making a buck shows a certain poverty of ambition. It asks too little of yourself. Because it's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential.

Stage Some Concerts

Rock music stars and legendary singers, songwriters and composers have come together to raise money for some great Causes. The United States National Debt is a Cause. Cause if we don't do something about it all Americans will be affected, our reputation will take a beating politically, monetarily and mentally for years to come.

Concerts are awesome. Frankly we love you guys, we will come out to see you no matter how many concerts you hold. Live concerts, TV concerts where people can call in and pledge money, video streaming concerts online. We love it all. Rock stars, Rap singers, Country Western super stars, 70's, 80's and 90's revival bands you all have a great audience in the USA.

June 2011's Nashville Rising benefit, led by country megastars/spouses Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, took in more than $2.2 million for flood relief, according to the Associated Press. More than 20 performers, including Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith and organizers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, did what they could to help the hurting, playing a sold-out show for flood relief bringing in donations from everyday people and large corporations.

Farm Aid Has been raising money for years to date approximately $37 million dollars to keep American Farming strong. Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp organized the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. Dave Matthews and other great entertainers have joined and promoted this American fund raising. Farm Aid is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to keep family farmers on their land.

How Much is a Trillion?

I wasn't really sure, the more I thought about it the more those zeros on the end kept popping up so I wondered, exactly how much is a Trillion. So I did what I do about anything I want to know more about, I Googled it and got the answer. You will love this.

A trillion dollars = $1,000,000,000,000.

That's 12 zeroes to the left of the decimal point. A trillion is a million million dollars.

If you were alive when Jesus was born and you spent one million dollars every single day since that point, you still would not have spent one trillion dollars by now. But this year alone the U.S. government is going to add more than a trillion dollars to the national debt.

If you went out today and started spending one dollar every single second, it would take you over 31,000 years to spend one trillion dollars.

If Bill Gates gave every penny of his fortune to the U.S. government, it would only cover the U.S. budget deficit for 15 days.

A trillion $10 bills, if they were taped end to end, would wrap around the globe more than 380 times. That amount of money would still not be enough to pay off the U.S. national debt.

If the U.S. national debt (more than 14 trillion dollars) was reduced to a stack of 5 dollar bills, it would reach three quarters of the way to the moon.

Put Me In Coach!

Put me in coach I'm ready to play.........Hold some baseball tournaments. President Obama there is no more American pasttime than baseball and our Major League Baseball Teams, Organizations and Players are a reflection of making it big in America. US fans pay a fortune now to go to a ML Baseball game between the tickets, the food and beer and the t-shirts and promotional gear. Millions. Millions of fans support these teams and players and we have made them American Super Stars. How about some National Debt Relief Baseball Games!

I really believe our baseball players would play their hearts out for the Americans and score big time raising money to help pay off the National Debt. Fans would gladly pay a fair rate for tickets to watch their favorite teams play and support America at the same time. It's a Win-Win idea for our country and baseball fans everywhere. It's a great way for baseball stars and organizations to say Thank You to their fans and the country that made them what they are.

Players donate their time to show off what they've got, the Organizations give all proceeds of ticket sales for these games as well as the profits from sales of Fan Gear and Food to pay off the National Debt. How about if the hot dogs are donated from big corporations and beer donated by our many well to do beer manufacturers. There's a great reason not to raise taxes on big business, because look at what they would be giving back to America by doing this.

Mr. President you definitely get to throw out the first pitch for TEAM OBAMA and the USA! Maybe we could call it Diamonds For America.

Ask Not What We Can Do For Our Country.....

President Obama our history in America began with forming a country based on what we could do for our people. Freedoms of speech, religion and the rights to a government for the people, by the people.

I know that President John F. Kennedy said in his Inaugural Address January 20, 1961 "My fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country."

Now I propose that our government and our people ask eachother "My fellow Americans what can we do for eachother so that we may all enjoy the rights we are granted and grow to be all that we can be"

I submit that our government simply cannot keep taxing us everywhere we turn. It has been an American promise, the American dream that if you are willing to work for it, to be educated and good people you can earn your American dream no matter who you are, where you come from. More taxes, higher prices, no return on money we can save takes that dream away from us and makes it an empty promise for the first time in America's history.

I agree that we the people cannot expect the government to keep spending money and increasing the National Debt to provide us all of our dreams.

It is time our people and our government get together and say "What Can We Do For Eachother". If you want Americans to give you more money, than give us something in return besides more taxes. Give us a challenge. Give us a Cause. Let us enjoy the concert, wear the t-shirt, run a marathon. You will make the money and we will be proud to pay the way and help you raise more.

Social Media Power
Social Media Power

Tweet It, Blog It, Facebook It

President Obama I really respect your appreciation for the world today. How can we move into the future if we don't live in today's world and having a progressive and down to earth President like you is good for America!

Free advertising, social media exposure and maybe Americans can even get text messages if they sign up through their cell phone carriers for no charge because promoting high profile concerts, baseball games, telethons and marathons to raise money to help pay off the National Debt is patriotic and stimulates the growth of Twitter, Blogs and Facebook. I'm sure they would offer free advertising for these events and help reach millions and millions of Americans.

Google Ads featuring National Debt Relief special events and fund raising would reach more people than my mind can even imagine. Internet online social media is some of the best of America's technology, education and means word of mouth throughout the country. The internet giants have the power to turn the whole country around and I know they would do their part.

Sweet Shop Fun
Sweet Shop Fun

Big Food, Big Deals, Big Bucks

I believe some of our big food names in America like McDonalds, Hersheys, Mars and you can come up with dozens more I'm sure can kick in some National Debt Fund help too. Wouldn't it be great if they promoted even one special item of their brand and said for every sale of this item we will give back, I don't know, maybe 50% of the profit from that sale. It would help promote that product and I think Americans would often make the choice when having to choose knowing it also goes to helping our Country.

When its time to buy there are so many choices we just might choose the one thats good for our country. Good for the company because they will sell more, and if they sell more they have to make more and if they have to make more, well that could produce more jobs and then that's good for everyone including the National Debt.

Or they could even choose say Wednesday is Hershey Bar Day and all proceeds from these sales will go directly to help pay the National Debt. Thats a tasty way to increase sales and promote patriotism at the same time. Again its a great way to say to a big company with lots of big bucks, we are raising taxes on any company who participates in this program because that's an Awesome American Give Back!

It's a sweet deal for everyone, a great way to raise money for National Debt without just taking and taking taxes, it stimulates production and buying, everyone kicks in and gets something out of it.

The Stars Benefit Concerts

The Stars turn out to raise money at benefit concerts for Live Aid, Hurricaine Katrina, Haiti and NYC after the devastating attack on September 11, 2001.

The DVD's and CD's stil raise money for these Causes to this day. A powerful give back to Americans, a way to raise money and thank all the fans of those we made super stars.

Volunteer Firefighters Are Worth Billions Of Dollars

Volunteer Firefighters save Americans literally billions of dollars a year because they provide life saving community necessary emergency services at the highest quality of training, day and night, in big towns and little boroughs all for no pay. No pay? Unbelievable but true.

There is no greater, longer-running expression of volunteerism in U.S. history than the volunteer fire service, which still saves taxpayers billions of dollars each year. Almost three-fourths of the nation's 1.1. million firefighters are volunteers, and two-thirds of all fire departments are volunteer. It's harder for firefighters to volunteer today. The economy is bad and in most families adults are working sometimes more than one job to help pay the mortgage on their house, keep food on the table and try to make it today. We have to keep encouraging people to volunteer for their fire dept. Give them incentives like small tax breaks. And there is another problem in many areas that you can help with in recruiting and retaining volunteer firefighters.

I truly admire Barack Obama and truly feel for him in the mess that was handed to him as president to deal with. It will definitely take awhile to shovel the country out from that degree of debt especially when their are two opposing groups dealing with the issue. I am Canadian.

Your common sense approach is exactly what we need these days. I think my biggest beef is the way they spend OUR money. Roads to nowhere, research on cow poo and office parties. The list is long and ugly. Since the politicians got us into this mess I think the first thing that should be cut is their salaries, health care and retirement packages.

@delia-delia: I know right! I would vote for the first candidate who used twitter, facebook and SQUIDOO to get their message out and get TV stations to donate the time if they wanted to and include the fact that they donated all their campaign money instead to......pick a cause.......there are so many and so many people they could help instead!

Amen! JMO here...I feel it's unconscionable to donate millions from the wealthy for campaigning, when this money right now could do much more for this country if donated to help relieve the's all for their own gain instead of being able to say, "I helped bring this country out of debt"...sadly it's all political no matter who you are for, it's certainly not for us, as you can see none of them are hurting financially. God 'blessed them with wealth' that's wonderful...and they made their choice, good or bad.

Obama, like most politicians, only cares about his own power and wealth at the expense of the people he is supposed to serve. Under his regime our beautiful Constitution and its guarantees of Liberty isn't worth the paper it's written on because "our own" government is systematically destroying those liberties.

Great ideas, but I am not expecting much out of most politicians these days as they only seem to want power and prestige. High 5 for your ideas and you should get into the political arena! I will vote for you along with less government butting into our personal lives.

I absolutely LOVED this. Just last week I was telling my husband how I thought it would have made more sense for Bill Maher (i think that's his name) to send a million-dollar donation to the Red Cross to help tornado victims than it would to send a check to the Obama re-election committee.
