With the Islamic State's attack, it's obvious that World War III is upon us.. Pope Francis was the first major world figure to recognize it. The Pope called it a “piecemeal Third World War.”

The Islamic State’s slaughter of over 120 people in Paris on November 13, 2015, made a profound impact on some world leaders, but they don't really understand it.The world leaders only pledged to help the French. They did not seem to realize what's happening and declare war on the Islamic State. Yes, French President Hollande said of the Paris attack: “This is war.” But that was in fact the second wake up call. Shortly before the Paris attack, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the downing of a Russian airliner, killing all on board.

It's profoundly confusing why the world leaders did not see this coming. After all, the Islamic State has affiliates fighting in about a dozen countries. And for years the Islamic State has been reaching out to extremists all over the world by way of the Internet and cell phones. The Islamic State is also training people on how to do mass killings worldwide. In fact, the French gendarmes had recently arrested an extremist who had returned home from Syria. In Syria he was trained on how to do a mass attack. Specifically, he was told to blow up a concert hall or a sporting event. This arrest happened before the recent mass killing.

For Americans this leaves many questions unanswered:

Why didn’t Congress pass President Obama’s resolution to declare war on the Islamic State?

Will America's cooperation with the Russians and Iranian in fighting the Islamic State continue?

Will the Defense Department refocus on fighting terrorism and stop confronting the Chinese in the China Sea?

Will the U.S. politicians stop playing the blame game, stop the quagmire in Congress, and realize America is at war?

Why is America building expensive bombers and battleships when it’s obvious that bombers and battleships cannot win this “piecemeal Third World War?

Or will the American politicians have to wait for another massacre like took place on 9/11 before they will wake up and embrace reality?

Right, Wesman. Power makes the ego believe you are infallible for some people, a little like Trump and a lot like Hitler. Hitler ignored his generals and attacked Russia just before winter!

I'm always wondering if those folks (ISIS, etc) are really so crazy they think they can do much to the western world. It must be about as insane as Spartacus marching on Rome.

I agree, Parimalpolymath. In America many people shut out anything that conflicts with their beliefs. Instead, they criticize the person who tries to inform them about the world.

Now in Australia, 75% of the people believe there will be a Paris-like attack here at home. And there is no way to stop politicians from taking advantage of this. Just like with Donald Trump in America.

I think politicians all over the world are highly circumspect in addressing the threat of terrorism and the underlying causes behind it. The problem can't be rectified unless the people are made aware of the flaws in their beliefs.
