Super Bowl Entertainment Options for Women

Updated on December 24, 2014

He Wants To Watch The Game

Jump for joy! This is a time to celebrate your personal entertainment style.

Here it comes: Super Bowl XLVIII! The commercials, the apps, the stats, the commentaries, music downloads; it's the time of year when everything centers on the big game. The NFL network is doing its job of pulling men to the event, and guys just can't get enough of it. Everyone is hyped and preparing for the day, except you, the female part of the equation.

Sure, you play chef and cater to his whims. For some of us, that means grilling enough chicken to feed his buddies who stop in to watch. Bring out your favorite wings recipe, they are gonna want tons of it, along with dips and chips!

So, what are you to do while the party is going on? If you think about it, this is your time to pamper yourself without feeling guilty. You must get out of the house. Let them do whatever it is men do while watching the game of of the year. Of course, we women don't have to imagine what goes on — later, we see the evidence!

I Must Have It!

A woman can never have enough accessories. Consignment shops have lots of interesting bargains this time of year.

There's Always a Sale!

Is it not true, ladies? We always manage to find a sale, no matter where we happen to shop. This time of year the consignment shops offer great sales to customers. This is partially due to the after Christmas clean-out from clients/patrons and the need to attract buyers to boost revenue.

I love trying on jewelry. You just can't overstock your collection of baubles and bangles. They can highlight your ensemble or bring out your best features. Regardless, they are inexpensive. You know this because, my dear, you are a savvy shopper.

Catch Up On The News!

Finally, you have time for highlights, style your hair, and do those nails!

You Have Time For A Make-Over

If you are like me, your time is limited and just getting your hair cut deducts a major chunk from your schedule. With at least five hours to spare, you can indulge on perfecting your image. Book a full treatment at the salon: hair cut, dye job with highlights (go wild!), style and blow-dry. While you are at it, you must have your nails done, both pedicure and manicure.

Let's admit it ladies, for some of us, this is where we meet other likeminded souls. We head to the local watering hole to catch up on what's happening and find out who is doing what. My stylist keeps me updated on local trends, breaking news, gives her opinion on the Hollywood stars, and much, much more. It's Facebook without the visuals, although the imagery is still quite vivid.

The Thrill of the Lights and Sights

There's just something about city lights that makes a night out exciting.

Hit The Hot Spots

Remember ladies, the pre-coverage and post-coverage on the Super Bowl adds a couple of hours to the game, there's plenty of time to call the gang and head out to the city. When was the last time you were able to chat over dinner and take pleasure in dessert with just the girls? We women need this quality time to unwind and rejuvenate our relationships with men. Seriously!

Look at this as an opportunity to dress up and go some place new and exciting. Afterwards, take in a movie, preferably a chic flick. Yes, it is mandatory to cry during the film. It's great therapy!

Take Time To Pamper Yourself

What If I Enjoy Staying Home?

I admit I have seen quite a few Super Bowl games in my lifetime and enjoyed every one from the comfort of my home. However, for those of us who need some "me" time there are some great options while our man watches the game.

Besides watching old movie favorites, my next best delight is having a personal spa day. It's so therapeutic to soak in a hot tub filled with bubbles while listening to soft music and watch the candles flicker. Later, pamper yourself with lotions and give yourself a manicure.

My personal climax to a spa day is chocolate truffles. Studies show chocolate benefits a woman's health by fighting disease through flavanoids and theobromine. Just one square of dark chocolate (70% cacao) daily helps lower blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart attack by nearly 40%**. It also helps satisfy cravings by giving one a feeling of fullness, which cuts down on other sweets you may nibble upon during the day.

Okay, that is wonderful news about chocolate, but in short — I just love it!

Solitude, Such Bliss!

When does a woman have time to read a favorite book, write a few letters, answer emails, or surf the net? Men, it is a fact: most women do not spend a lot of time doing these little pleasures on a daily basis. Oh, if only this were true!

Women, without ado, seize the day! Pull the book you set aside to read on a rainy day and immerse yourself into the pages. Write a letter pouring your heart out to a dear friend who needs the encouragement. Answer emails or Facebook posts, reconnect with people.

I spent one Super Bowl Sunday meditating and reading scripture, which renewed my faith in mankind and my maker. It is during quiet times your mind clears, opening the door to wisdom. Shut yourself in, listen for guidance —wait for the light.

Here is a novel idea; take a long nap! According to the Sleep Foundation, naps can restore alertness, enhance performance, and reduce mistakes and accidents. It can increase alertness in the period directly following the nap and may extend alertness a few hours later in the day. It is a great mini-vacation.

How Will You Spend Superbowl Sunday?

What are your plans?

Writer's Choice

Now for all you writers out there, write to your heart's content! Imagine a whole day to bang out some articles without interruption. This is one day you don't have to worry about someone wanting to go out for a drive, needing some dinner company, or just wondering where you are and what you are doing.

Go ahead, what are you waiting for? Enjoy yourself and do something special.

Come on, celebrate!

Too funny and a great idea, Dianna. As for Bev, she will be watching the game with me....we in the Seattle area don't get this opportunity too often. :) Have a great weekend.

Bill, good for Bev! She is choosing to enjoy the day in the best way: with the one you love. I have to admit, I will probably be doing the same, besides I really love his chicken wing recipe!

Nell, I imagine one could spend practically the whole night out and still find the guys watching the game highlights into the wee hours of the morning. Americans!

I loved this, but I have to admit that I love the Super Bowl more than my husband. I make a whole day of it, wearing my Cowboys jersey, snacks all day long and watch all of the pregame shows. I know, it's a little weird, but I just love it! But lots of my friends go out and treat themselves.

Pooh, I am not watching any old games! I can think of many better things to do. If I had got in on that deal I would be bonkers by now cause all the guys I know get loud and serious over these games and I sure don't want to be within earshot so you better know I have made my plans!

      Great weekend to ya! ^+

teaches12345, good post. I usually have a Super Bowl party with my hubby and kids, just us. Very relaxing and low key, but if not I'd probably use one of the listed options as an alternative, especially the solitude idea. That sounds like my kind of party.

Dianna, I don't watch sports - ever. I don't really like shopping either. I'll probably do what I do every Sunday: read the paper, do my grocery shopping, maybe work on my next blog post, read, watch a little TV - whatever trips my trigger.

Most of us don't watch The Super Bowl here as gridiron doesn't have a big following. Our main football codes have their Grand Finals and what we call State Of Origin(these have the biggest tv coverage of any sport or program in Australia.) Your advice would also work well for the wives and partners during those events. Good hub Dianna.

You made some great suggestions for those women looking for something to do. My hubby helps prepare food ahead of time so cooking will not interfere at game time. I watch some of the games and plan to watch this one, these teams seem to be so evenly matches. My husband and I will be alone and have fun today.

well after watching that dreadful Super Bowl, I should have taken your advice teaches12345 and done some "other options" instead of watching. I'm sure the women who didn't watch had a lot more fun.

Poor Peyton Manning. That opening video clip is going to live a long time. My husband is determined the game is fixed. All I can say is the defense looked more like ballet dancers leaping in the general direction, and then, missing the guy with the ball. So sad.

Vocal Coach, your retreat must have rejuvenated your body and mind with all the outdoor beauty and quite time. The jewelry shot was taken at a local consignment shop (The Red Balloon - I covered it in another hub post Perfecting Your Professional Image). They are a high end shop - meaning quality items sold. I loved the earrings!

Alpha, you kind of knew the game was over after the first quarter. What a shame. Yes, doing one of these options would have been great for a majority of people. Well, maybe next year.

EGamboa, it was such a great loss for Manning. To be honest, I can't see how someone so talented was unable to pull the game win. However, we have to give credit to the Seahawks for playing their game with their hearts exposed. Next year, more may take these options more seriously.

Diana......Such an excellent hub with some wonderful "ideas!" Confession time.....While I can understand the palpable excitement all around for the Super Bowl, the constant conversations, party-planning & private betting amongst friends.....Alas, I'm just not feelin it, Diana.

No football fan am I. There are sports I enjoy, just not football. (I feel sometimes as though this is like admitting to a grave sin! LOL) After all, I have four highly athletic sons. Shame on me.

I love some of the comments you've gotten. As for me, it will be pretty much an ordinary Sunday. I've always got a boat load of activities/projects to keep myself active and productive.
