God's Design For Marriage

21ST Century Husbands and Wives

Part 1

Marriage is still sacred in the eyes of God. It is a covenant agreement to be honored and cherished! Marriage is about building a budding, committed relationship of continual spiritual growth together. Although for some there are now alternative relationships. Marriage designed by God is comprised of a man and a woman who have dedicated themselves to the Lord and one another for a lifetime. Here in I Peter we are given healthy guidelines that will help to establish and assure us of a successful, lasting, loving, fulfilling, organic realistic intmate spiritual marital union. Marriage is about intimacy, love, passion and transparency!

Not everyone who marries takes the time to really embrace God’s principles for marriage. Instead they look to the standards of this ever changing world and adjust themselves accordingly. This is also why 55% of marriages result in divorce. When there is disharmony or challenges they are often far from being resolved. There is usually a lack of balance within the marriage since there are no set boundaries. This will in fact serve to establish only fluctuating principles of ideology that will further inhibit the growth of a healthy marriage. You always have the option to make changes. Abuse or being disrespectful is never acceptable behavior.

We were created by GOD for GOD!

God has created each of us with a purpose and plan in mind. It is in an ongoing growing intimate personal relationship with the Lord that we can experience security & significance. It is to the Lord each spouse must look to for understanding, comfort and peace and then extend those virtues to one another. It is within an intimate relationship with the Lord we can better learn how to properly relate to our spouse or desired spouse. The marriage bed in the eyes of the Lord is honorable and undefiled.

God is the Author of marriage! He allows us to choose His way or the ways of the world. The United States Supreme Court even voted against the Word of God in favor of "Same Sex Unions." This is quite interesting because the Word of God is quite clear how the Lord feels about sex between same sexes... The Lord allows us to choose His Way or the ways of the world. It is important to know that there are consequences when we decide to live contrary to what God has said not to do. The Lord has given us pertinent instructions in His Word that are most helpful yet are often overlooked. The principles of God are tried and true and will always stand the test of time! It is with our spouse that we should harmoniously work together vigorously to faithfully achieve mutual fulfilling emotional and physical sexual satisfaction.

God’s Word is like no other. It is alive! God wants to write His Word within our hearts and in our minds. He disciplines us through His Word. He has provided us with His Holy Spirit to illuminate His Word and continually open our understanding. It is here we can acquire a better healthy comprehensive understanding about life and living. The possibilities are endless. A reservoir of spiritual wisdom flows to and throughout the depths of our hearts when we fully embrace the principles of His Word. “For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to the dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” Hebrews 4:12&13.

Benefits of Embracing Godly Principles

God’s Word is not merely a collection of religious words an phrases. It is so much more! It is capable of removing distorted thinking and powerfully renewing our minds to the things of God. It is also gregariously instrumental in convicting the soul of any wrongdoing and ushering one to the door of repentance. This is reason enough to consult Him and His Word when in pursuit of a husband or wife as well as throughout the duration of marriage.

The passage of scripture below from I Peter contains a wealth of spiritual knowledge that is often misunderstood. When Peter scribed these scriptures he wanted to encourage Christians who were greatly suffering. He wanted them to become steadfast in their faith and trust in the Lord despite any of the persecution they experienced. At this time it was customary for husbands who were believers to bring their wives and family to worship with them. A woman who had an unbelieving husband was encouraged to demonstrate God’s principles by example. Their lifestyle would speak volumes and thereby draw them closer to the Lord! The Word of God is relevant and applicable through Eternity!

Jesus himself had charged Peter with the task to “feed His sheep.” Know that after Jesus returned to heaven his disciples encountered much ridicule, conflict and persecution from the established religious leaders as well as the world. He explains the benefits of embracing the Word of God for life and living. God's principles will refine your faith whenever embraced. Submission in marriage is never about domination and control. It is a position of meekness and principle. Here Peter provides us with a spiritual feast that will enhance your marriage and your personal life!

Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husband’s so that, if any of them do not believe the WORD, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives.”
