Silver Wedding Anniversary Party for 24

Updated on May 30, 2011

An Afternoon Party

25 years of marriage is certainly something to celebrate.and a late afternoon reception is a nice way to do it.

A silver motif is the easiest to achieve. If you have beautiful silver - coffee, tea or punch bowl, sandwich or cake plates, trays or candlesticks, you can use those. If you don't own them, you can rent most of these things very reasonably. Silver can be in your decorating with or without them. Try  tablecloths of white or pale gray and use centerpieces of blue iris. Down the table you can place silver leaves and silver balls of different sizes. (Christmas tree balls would work) Coffee goes at one end of the main table , tea at the other and the punch bowl in-between, or on a separate table.

The Menu

Serve very tiny meatballs in a silver chafing dish, speared with a cocktail pick, with a bowl of barbecue sauce close by.

Small tea sandwiches are easy to make ahead.

Coffee, tea and punch are the only beverages you need to serve.

An anniversary cake can be made or ordered from your local bakery.

Mini Meatballs recipe

You can make these in your crock pot and then transfer them to a silver chafing dish to serve. Makes about 60 meatballs.

2 pounds ground beef or any ground meat

1 cup bread crumbs

1 teaspoon garlic powder

2 packages onion soup mix

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

2 eggs

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Shape into balls. Brown in skillet. Drain on paper towels.

BBQ Sauce

2 large onions

2 cans tomato paste (6 oz cans)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

1/4 cup red wine vinegar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup sweet pickle relish

1/2 cup water

2 teaspoons salt or to taste

2 teaspoons dry mustard

Combine ingredients and add to crock pot or slow cooker. Place meatballs in crock pot and cook on low for 5-6 hours or on high 2-3 hours. Transfer meat balls to silver chafing dish and serve sauce in a separate bowl nearby for dipping.

Tea Sandwiches

Ham Sandwich Spread

2 cans deviled ham

1/4 cup plain or Greek yogurt

2 Tablespoons chopped sweet pickle

1 Tablespoon chopped roasted red pepper

1 Tablespoon chopped celery

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well. Makes enough for 24 tea sandwiches.

Chicken Sandwich Spread

1 can chicken, finely chopped

1/4 cup plain or Greek yogurt

2 Tablespoons chopped celery

3 Tablespoons chopped toasted almonds

2 Tablespoons lemon juice

2 teaspoons finely chopped onion

1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Makes enough for 24 tea sandwiches.

Liverwurst Sandwich Spread

1 pound liverwurst

1/4 cup prepared horseradish

2 teaspoons prepared mustard

1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste

2 Tablespoons chopped onion

Dash of pepper

Mash liverwurst. Blend in remaining ingredients and mix well. Makes enough filling for 24 tea sandwiches.

Open-faced Cucumber Tea Sandwiches

2 packages cream cheese (3 oz each)

1/4 cup milk or light cream, or 6 Tablespoons sour cream

2 Tablespoons blue cheese salad dressing

4 dozen cocktail rye bread slices

2 cucumbers, scored and thinly sliced

1 dozen stuffed green olives

Soften cream cheese in small bowl. Add milk and salad dressing. Stir until blended. Spread on rye bread slices. Top with a cucumber and garnish with a slice of olive. Makes 4 dozen.

Bread for Tea Sandwiches

Bread should not be dry, but is easier to slice and cut after 24 hours. Always remove the crusts and use thin slices of bread.

A 1 1/4 lb loaf should have about 22 slices.

1 3/4 lb  loaf - about 26 slices.

2 lb loaf - about 40 slices

Grape-Orange Punch

3 cans (6 oz each) frozen grape juice

3 cans (6 oz each) frozen orange juice

9 cups cold water

9 bottles (7 oz each) cold lemon soda - about 7 1/2 cups

Mix frozen juices and water. Add soda and pour into punch bowl over block of ice. Garnish with mint leaves and quartered orange slices. Makes about 5 quarts (without ice) or about 42 four oz servings.

Nifty, you're correct! These ideas can be incorporated into any anniversary. 26th anniversary gift ideas would be "original pictures." and so on.

Some super 25th anniversary ideas! Ours was last year, but I don't see why most of these ideas wouldn't work for any anniversary( Minus the 25 on the cake & not for your 50th!) Great hub!

Ethel, I would be happy to create a 40th anniversary party. 40 years is the ruby anniversary, so the celebration would be on the ruby theme. Give me some time and I will come up with it.

A posh tea sounds a good idea. We will hit 40 years in two years time, all being well. Perhaps you could create a 40 years hub

That sounds delightful! We didn't get a party for ours and now we are up to 35! I guess we will have to wait for that 50th - so could you do one up for that in the next couple of years or rush!
