Yes or No?

You have finally found the love of your life. You are ready to spend the rest of your life with your partner. You are prepared to commit to marriage.

It's time to plan your marriage proposal. You don't want to just propose. You want the moment to be memorable and unique.

You ponder a few ideas. You ask a family member or friend in confidence for suggestions. You might even use Google for advice.

I hope you find these ideas useful or better yet, you take a few ideas and make them your own.

This list is useful for any type of relationship. It's not just the man who proposes to the woman anymore. Women are now taking the initiative too. If you are in a same-sex relationship, this list will be useful for you also.

If you do happen to use one of the ideas listed, please post a comment and let me know. I wish you good luck with your upcoming nuptials.

I Now Introduce Mr & Mrs . . .

1. Place your "Will You Marry Me?" message in a bottle. Ask a friend to place the bottle in a certain area where you will be. Suggest a walk on the beach to your significant other. Imagine her surprise when she spots the bottle and reads your message!

2. Invite your girlfriend over for dinner. Spell out "Will You Be My Wife?" with A-Z Spaghettios!

3. Send her a text proposal while sitting in the same room. Be prepared with champagne, chocolates and Train's song "Marry Me" playing on your smart phone.

4. Go for a hike. Be prepared beforehand and have a banner hanging above your path displaying your proposal. Be sure you are both on the same path at the time.

5. Use your artistic abilities and draw your proposal with chalk on a walkway.

6. Have a scavenger hunt. Give romantic clues. Eventually the list will lead to the question.

7. Play Hangman _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ / _ _?

8. Make a video proposal. Be clever. Make a slideshow of your favorite photos as a couple.

9. Using her favorite shade of lipstick, write your proposal on the bathroom mirror. Add a check yes or no box.

10. Place a ring in a container of Tic-Tacs. Do NOT suggest she needs a tic-tac, that would place a damper on the moment if she's thinking that you are thinking she has bad breath. Just pull out the container, pop one in your mouth (carefully) and most likely she'll ask for one. Well, hopefully she will.

Marry Me Please!

11. Mention you need a tax deduction, and hopefully she'll need health insurance. Sounds like a good plan to me.

12. Create an article here on HubPages (or elsewhere online) expressing your love and ask for her hand in marriage.

13. Have a balloon pop. Place a piece of paper in four balloons and a ring in the fifth. One balloon will have Will, another You, continue with Marry, Me and the ring.

14. Create a jigsaw puzzle with your favorite photo as a couple. Once it's completed, pop the question.

15. Go old school and place the ring in a box of Cracker Jacks. I bet that's one "toy surprise" she'll never forget.

16. Plan to meet up at the first place you met. Whether it was the produce department at the grocery store or at a friend's party. Arrange to have a photographer hiding nearby to capture the moment. What woman wouldn't want to be proposed to among the mounds of apples and sprigs of parsley?

17. Arrange a day of pampering for your significant other and a few of her friends. Treat them to manicures and pedicures. Have them meet you at a restaurant for a cocktail afterwards. This is when you'll pop the question. I guarantee her friends would accept you if they didn't before.

18. If you have a child or children, have them wear a t-shirt that says, "Will You Marry My Dad?"

19. Plan a date at a pottery place and suggest you make plates. While you are creating your masterpiece write your proposal on the plate. She'll have an everlasting memory of your special moment.

20. Write "Will You Be Mine?" on her car's windshield using window markers. They wash off easily.

Chandler and Monica's Proposal

With These Rings I Thee Wed . . .

21. Purchase a copy of the "Marriage for Dummies" book. Place it in an obvious place for her to spot. Tell her you don't know where it came from. Hopefully she'll flip through the book and discover your proposal which will be written in the center of the book with a red marker. Hopefully she also has a good sense of humor.

22. Using her favorite color ribbon, tie a ring around her precious pet's collar.

23. Write your proposal on a dry erase board or a chalk board. Wrap it with pretty paper. Have the ring hidden within a festive bow. The board would make a nice conversation piece in your home, unless she erases the proposal and uses it for your honey-do list instead.

24. Score some tickets to her favorite sporting event. Have four friends with you who will each hold up a sign Will, You, Marry, Him during intermission.

25. If you are really daring, you could post a status update on Facebook asking for her hand in marriage. I bet you'd get many "likes," or maybe not. Like I said, depends how daring you are.

26. Propose at Disney. It's the happiest place on earth. If you time it correctly, you could have a state-of-the-art fireworks display bursting in the sky immediately following her response. Your dreams could come true.

27. Prepare a romantic meal. Place her ring in a champagne flute. Be careful she doesn't ingest it.

28. If you are fans of the Friends TV show, how about watching the episode when Chandler proposes to Monica and follow with your proposal. Good luck with that one — that's a tough proposal to follow. No pressure!

29. If you are both avid Twitter users ask a favorite celebrity of the both of yours to join in on the fun and tweet your proposal for you!

30. Purchase an ad in your local newspaper. She could read your proposal over her morning coffee. Maybe she'll also purchase an ad with her answer.

Bonus Marriage Proposal Idea...

I heard a marriage proposal on my favorite radio station this morning. The caller asked the radio hosts if he could propose to his girlfriend via a song he wrote. He admitted he didn't have any vocal talent and he was correct, but he had nerves of steel.

The radio hosts phoned the girlfriend who was a bit in shock, but soon she was in tears saying, "YES" after her boyfriend proposed via song. It was a cute and romantic marriage proposal idea. She wanted him to come home from work pronto, but he promised to put the ring on her finger as soon as work was over. Awww!

Making Memories

This concludes my unique list of ideas. You are now on your own. Remember to be clever and capture the memories on photo or video if possible.

Make your proposal memorable. Try your best not to be nervous or anxious. Your emotions could make or break your plan. Try to have moral support on stand-by, such as a good friend or family member who could have your back if you should panic.

Wishing you much success with your journey. May you have many wonderful years of wedded bliss.

These are truly moments that the happily wedded couple will treasure forever. Telling and retelling the story of how the proposal went is a favorite pastime at parties and Valentine's day celebrations. You've really covered the bases for a variety of unique proposals.

You know (I have been divorced forever ...34 years) but I honestly do not remember how my loved one proposed...that's kind of sad...but obviously I got over it..we had nine wonderful years...

Love to read your hubs, Linda...and I am not sure if I told you but Congrats of the Hubbie Award.... Angels are on the way ps

Terrific ideas, Linda! My husband proposed the night after Thanksgiving in downtown Cincinnati among all the beautiful Christmas lights. He was so nervous he paid for parking rather than park on the street for free (not like him) and forgot to get down on one knee. We've been married almost 20 years.

One of my ex-husbands was a professional barbershop quartet singer. He proposed to me by bringing the quartet to my home + flowers and they sang "The girl that I marry" to me. Really a unique way to propose. Unfortunately, that marriage didn't last but a few months. :)

A marvelous hub with a list of amazing ideas! My favorite ideas mentioned here are #2, #8, #13 & #24. As for me, it is an arranged marriage but my fiancée is very romantic. Before our engagement, he secretly surprised me by sending a bouquet of roses and box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates with a mini-card stating a famous classic Indian film song which means that he is very happy to have me as his wife!

Proposing is the moment that a woman waits; it is a special day for her to hear the words from her boyfriend, “will you marry me?” The proposal should be creative, something that will create lasting memory. I like the idea “Plan to meet up at the first place you met.”

I always enjoy your lists :-) This is another great one! Well since my boy finally asked me just over 3 months ago I don't need any ideas, but it is always interesting to hear other peoples stories. He proposed on a wood trail behind our house that was lined with candles just as the sun was setting. He started playing the song I can't wait by runner runner as he knelt down on one knee! It was the most romantic thing he had ever done for me and I will never forget it :-) Once again great list!

Think about it -- it's the most romantic book ever and when you get old and can't remember the story of your proposal, you'll always have the book to remember (just don't let your future children get a hold of the book!!!! ;)

Really cute and fun ideas - I especially liked the Hangman idea. My husband surprised me right outside of a church - it was so perfect.

Hi Glimmer, #4 actually happened in the mountains in Colorado and the couple were on the wrong paths until they finally caught up. Sweet memory for them.

What a fun hub. Brings back memories of my husband's proposal. In the mountains in Colorado. I knew it was coming , but it was still wonderful. Of course the tax deduction at the end of the year did not hurt either!

Aw how romantic, being proposed to with fireworks filling the sky behind you :o) I' settle for the chalk on the pavement too - I was proposed to in Toronto on holiday so I have a soft spot for Toronto now - we will revisit for our 25th wedding anniversary in 5 years time!

These are very clever ideas for a wedding proposal. 1,2,9,16 and 18 are funny. #10 is the funniest one and #26 I like. voted up!

Thank you for this. I proposed to Arlene when I was 16. My dream came true when I was 22 (7/27/1974).

Now if I could just find a man!!! Great List, Linda. I honestly knew a guy who really did put the engagement ring in a Cracker Jack box.

Maybe I'll keep this Hub in case a Knight in shining amour comes riding up!

      Voted UP, etc.

Hezekiah, just in case you might need it again, you know where to find the ideas. Haha!

Your Cousins, I think the message in a bottle is a fab idea for marriage proposals or just to show some love.

      Thank you for your comments!

Janine and Alecia ... You know I couldn't have a proposal hub without including Monica and Chandler! That was one of my favorite Friends episodes. Well they were all my favs. Alecia, I agree about the Flash Mob. Way over done. TY!

A message in a bottle would have done it for me! That would take time, preparation and planning to come out right. Voted up!

Oh NO! I did not see the proposal on Ellen....She said, NO? That must have been soooo uncomfortable.

I've said, "No" so many times, I lost count..........it's probably because none of them used any of your great and CREATIVE ideas, gf!! It may have also been because IT WAS MY FINAL ANSWER. Hey, you didn't tell us how Dave proposed to YOU? Please don't tell us he wrapped your ring in a pound of salami in the butcher dept!! LOL......

The proposals I accepted were quite sweet and romantic...but that's only because I was IN LOVE.........yeah...I still remember!.....Good one again GF!...UP+++ & shared.
