You might be thinking about the awkward title of this article. But it’s not something that you don’t know. You know it very well, but it needs some attention on your part. From religious point of view, telling a lie is a sin, but there are times, when it is mandatory for you to take resort to lying. Such a lie is also called a White Lie. There is no harm in such a lie. When you tell a lie, you mean to benefit someone. Let’s discuss the reasons that compel you to tell a lie:

Tell a Lie……………..

Telling a lie is a great sin and you should avoid it. But it carries great importance if you apply it at the right time and right place. For example, if there is danger to the life of someone, you should tell a lie. You should tell a lie to save his life. You might have come across many situations when an enemy of a person asks you about whereabouts of his opponent. In such a situation, you should not disclose his real location and address. Rather, you should do away with him by telling him lies. Telling him lies will save the life of the person he is searching for. If there is danger to your life or someone’s life, you should tell a lie.

Tell a Lie……………..

Telling a lie is a great tool in patching up differences between two friends, husband and wife. People may have personal grudges against each other. Usually, these grudges are the result of misunderstanding. They don’t know what caused their break up. If you find such people around you having animosity towards each other, you can play a vital role in bringing them close to each other. Just tell them separately that Mr. so-and-so is having a very good opinion about you, about your work, about your behaviour and so much so he admires you. He is also having no differences with you. He is really a good man. These lies will definitely produce an everlasting effect on his mind and he will think about changing his attitude towards him as well. So, tell lies if you want to patch up differences between people.

Tell a Lie……………..

Another important advantage of telling lies is that it gives you an opportunity to know about the intentions of someone. If you want to know the real intention of someone, you will have to tell lies. Bacon is also advocating this use of telling lies. He says in his essay Of Simulation and Dissimulation, “The great advantages of simulation and dissimulation are three. First, to lay asleep opposition, and to surprise. For where a man’s intentions are published, it is an alarum, to call up all that are against them. The second is, to reserve to a man’s self a fair retreat. For if a man engage himself by a manifest declaration, he must go through or take a fall. The third is, the better to discover the mind of another.”
