Nothing More Than a Friend

Updated on March 19, 2013

I wrote this in 1997.

A Friend

You've been with her for a long, long time

And it's tearing me up inside

Because I know you love her, and she loves you

But there is nothing I can do

We've been friends, and I guess you never knew

As my love for you grew and grew

I should not have tried to hide

Keeping my feelings locked up inside

From the moment we first met

You turned my head

Back then you weren't attached to anyone

And I could have been the one

But for now, I'll continue to hide away

I'll pass you each and every day

And as each day comes to an end

You'll still be nothing more, than a friend

Haha. Sadly, no. This poem was one I actually wrote over a decade ago. Turns out that once I did finally get the chance to date him, he turned out to be the player I hoped he wouldn't be. If that makes sense. . . Cheers to you as well!

Painful friendships with girls when I was a teen....painful....great friends, I wanted more, blah, blah and blah. I needed to grow up and feel comfortable in my own skin. Where are they now?

You packed a great deal into few words here. Well done, Shannon!

What is it with you men and needing to grow up? LOL This was based on someone I had a crush on in high school. One day he did ask me to a movie, but I turned him down because he had a girlfriend. I rather stupidly dated him a couple of years later, though. He hadn't changed. He stood me up on my birthday for a date with another girl who finally said yes to him.
