All Alone in a Crowd

Updated on April 13, 2013

Alone in a Crowd

The company party now in full swing,

She came but no date did she bring

The people that came she knew all too well

But of what they knew about her, it wasn't hard to tell

They knew which department she worked within

They knew well the tenure of the work she turned in

The integrity she shown set a high mark to achieve

Yet they knew not her dreams or inner thoughts conceived

Her life at home held little change of venue

the friends she had numbered maybe one or two

She returned home each day to a house all alone

Except her cat Romeo whom shared her home

Entranced in her movies and the books that she'd read

living vicariously with the fictional lives that they lead

Afraid to venture into the city night life close by

And to find coming tonight easy was for her a far cry

She’ll sit in the shadows trying not to be seen

Avoiding questions idle conversation might bring

Then she will make and excuse too bring her night to an end

And tomorrow in the crowd be alone once again. ©
