Baby Boomers United

Updated on February 13, 2016

Why Baby Boomers United?

Why Baby Boomers United as a title for this group?

With so many encouraging me to write a book on my life experiences (some good, some bad and some extremely ugly experiences), I finally decided to make this an "open book" experience. I learned a long time ago that if you share your experiences it helps prevent others from making the same mistakes. In addition, the best experience is to learn from mistakes made by others! It is a lot less painful! This learning process begins when we enter this world and the learning experience should never stop, even when it is painful.

Therefore, with friends across the globe, I am opening up this forum to enable all Baby Boomers (or anyone who wants to learn from this sixties generation) to unite and learn from each other. And, what could possibly be a better time to do this than now when the entire country is going through the worst recession ever?!? I think almost everyone could use a boost to their morale and I hope this site will provide a little comfort to all.

This is NOT a match making site, but an experience-sharing group. I hope by opening this up to everyone worldwide, we can learn from each other and grow from this experience. Who knows what doors this will open up for each of us! So, welcome to a new way of communicating with the ones who have truly been there, done that and have paid for and worn the t-shirts!

Please post a comment if you'd like to add to any of my hubs (blogs) and if you'd like to contact me privately, leave me a note with your name, phone number (and the best time to contact you ) or if you are not in the US, then an email address and I will contact you as soon as I get your comment. Thanks, in advance, for your input!

Finally here to add a brief update and to encourage all of you reading this to start living your life each day, as if it were your last day! I loved The Bucket List (2008 movie). I realized that this is something everyone should do -- make up a list of the things you want to do, then start doing them and checking them off your "Bucket List".

I have taken the initial steps to downsize by listing my house for sale. My Realtor had a professional stager come in to pare my belongings down to look like a model home, adding a few of the Realtor's accessories. The "Less is More" concept is so true. It's easier to clean and walk around without bumping into the excess furniture.

I plan to remain in Denver, NC, where I spent my formative years and moved back to ten years ago, because of family and friends living here. I truly have come full circle. The indecision of where I wanted to live out the rest of my life kept me in limbo for the past nine years. I feel so great finally getting off that proverbial fence.

      More to follow . . .

Happy Thanksgiving! Look for the things you have to be thankful for -- we are all blessed!

Sorry I haven't updated this "hub" in the past three years. Unfortunately, my situation has not changed -- I still haven't pursued the "Golden Girls" concept. I have been torn about moving, whether to downsize locally or move to Florida. This indecision has kept me from doing anything. Sometimes waiting is the best decision before making a life-changing decision. I'll keep you posted whether that's true or not.

If you are a Baby Boomer, what have you decided to do during the Golden Years? Are you downsizing or remaining where you are to age in place? Have you considered becoming a "Snow Bird", living in a warm climate during the winter months and living in cooler climates during May to October? Or, have you already made the move? If so, please share this with your fellow Baby Boomers -- we'd love to hear from you!

Thanks, in advance, for sharing your input with us.

Be sure to check out my new hub "The 2013 Golden Girls and Guys"; something I am considering doing. I have been giving it a lot of thought and I really would love to find three suitable (compatible, good natured with a good sense of humor) individuals to share my house with. It would be a win-win situation for them and for me.

This has become a "cottage trend" nationwide, mainly due to the economic situation; however, it has also been for companionship and security. Here's one modern day Golden Girls video that CNN aired a couple of years ago:

I believe it could work if everyone decided to make it work. What do you think? Your input will be greatly appreciated.

And, if you have parents you are worried about and whom you do not want living alone, why not get them into a "Golden Guys and Girls" situation -- sharing a home (maybe their home) with others in the same situation?

Life has continued happening (guess that is a good thing, huh?), so I have not finished my book. In searching for some files in storage I found four other "great American novels" I started during various stages of my life. I have considered starting a sixth book, combining them all! Then, I would be finished with my first book!

Hi Queen of the Lint! So sorry I have not been back on to respond. I truly thought I was ready to spend hours each week writing; however, life has continued to happen. I guess you could say I was given more material for my book! I have written on it and, as I have formulated some things in my head, but not on my computer, yet! As soon as I have the first chapter finalized, I will publish it here. I love to critique other writings, so maybe the readers here will critique mine. I hope so! Thanks for the encouragement!

Have you started that book yet? You should at least put some chapter teasers as hubs!
