Quick Poll

Do you believe in forever?

See results

Let me take out my mask and put on my soul

Reveal what’s behind the smiley face

Are you intrigued?

Now look openly, don’t ask a thing

Can you sense the sacred idleness in me?

Standing in silence, no agenda at all

‘Cause inside of me is a place where I live alone

My mind is lost like petals of a withered rose

Boxed in a glass, dead.

In a reverie of suspended thoughts

I’d like to sing you a hymn

Would you listen?

It’s a life long act to exist

When I know I don’t actually exists

Did you ever notice,

The pain behind the smiley face?

I stay still in my solitary world

Denied of my desire

Yet I smile,

I smile to break through isolation

While you stand there and stare

Outside of my heart, stiff.

You, yes you! The artist of being alive

You used to colour me bright

Under the blanket of midnight stars

Paint me with the colour of virtues

Stroke my wings and help me fly.

Now over the years

Life seems to have faded away

But I have to find my way back

Deep inside the vestiges of love

Lift myself beyond contempt

For I am sinking deep down, drowning

Into a mind-deadening game.

This tortured soul, hiding well in pain

Still clinging to faith and love

Behind the smiley face.

Beautiful poem. I do believe in love. And I do believe in forever. The difficult thing is, everything always changes. Always. Good and bad. Nothing lasts, but the ever changing universe.

      Thanks for writing.

      Namaste

      I hope you're having a great day!

Awesome poem, made me smile! :) Each day may not be good, but there is something good in each day. One of my favorite quotes. This all depends on our outlook on life. We can opt to dwell on the negative or accentuate the positive. I am all for the positive along with an authentic smile. Even when you think you absolutely cannot smile, do it anyway! Shine on...

Hauntingly sad. Whatever the reason for your depression, I hope you know that you are worth the struggle to beat these feelings of emptiness and find meaning and purpose and joy. We all go through a dark or self-contemplative period from time to time (some can "fake it" better than others). I encourage you to continue to connect with others and discuss your feelings. Don't close yourself off. I, too, am sending you a big hug.

For some reason this posted twice, so I guess you get a BONUS HUG! (I deleted the other one but the hug is still here.)

billybuc: Thank you. Well, I agree with your opinion and I think it is as we grow older that we master the art of concealing or pretending. In most cases, we simply do not want to show the world our sad (grumpy) faces. I am a master of masking specially at work that even my feet hurts, I still have to stand tall and proud and yes, walk straight with my heels on...then I'd let the mask slip away and Id' take time to simply just be me. Set free!

But this is no masking when I send you some love from the sky. ~

Hi CrisSp, You are an excellent artiest and you write with such profound passion. Perfect song/video selection too. Yes, I can relate to what you said about writing a song. I have one that I wrote and performed on my site and it's full of heartbreak. It has a "Warning" in the title before you listen to it. Also, in one of my hubs I wrote about great benefits to having a broken heart. Sometimes you get 2 or 3 of them. Then it comes a time when there'll be no more. You'll avoid heartbreak. Great hub my sister! Voted up!

How beautifully sad, and real. I think we all hide, to a certain extent that varies with the individual...but it is freeing to let that mask slide and reveal our inner selves. The more we do, often times the smile becomes real. Voted waaay up and hared.

Cris, that really was quite beautiful and very true. The masks we wear. I often think that a sign of our growth as a real human being is the amount we let that mask slip and allow our real self to show...at least it's that way for me.

For some reason I just felt peaceful reading this wonderful piece. I suppose I kind of like hiding a bit of myself behind a smile. I reckon I could hide it behind a frown, but to what end? This was very contemplative. The music was a perfect fit. And do you have the number for that hottie in the sketch, wowsa wowsa!!

      Hi lovely Cris,

Beautifully penned. Poignant piece here as to our true inner torture. I have written on this phenomenon too about the smiles that hide our pain. I understand this piece so well, for we do put on that smile, for we understand that there is truly only One who knows our true heart and He understands the why. Love your sketch.

      Hugs and peace, precious heart

I love this poem so much Cris, so beautiful but sad at the same time. Yes, many of us put on a smiley face to hide the pain or unhappiness. The Great Pretender is one of my favourite songs of all time too. Thank you for sharing. Voted way up. Love your pencil sketch selfie as well, you are multi- talented.
