Being Gay In Todays Society Acceptance

Updated on January 30, 2010

The hardest part about being gay is acceptance, this is because you yourself must first accept that you are gay, bi, lesbian or whatever you are, otherwise you will only lead to fighting yourself inside and make yourself ill and others around you.

It is you who has to be the one to stand up and accept your self inside, this is not about other people and their opinions as they don’t matter, it is you and only you who can do this step and when you do accept this you will be able to draw confidence and strength from your decision.

Remember this is your life and your way and how you are going to be for the rest of your days it is a big step and it is hard one to undertake but once you do it you will be so much better and so at ease with yourself that other peoples opinions will not bother you.

There are a lot of people out there that have had to live lies because they can’t accept that they are gay, it is not always their fault however because at one time it was illegal to be gay and carried a sentence in prison, theirs was a hard generation and not as widely accepted as we are in todays society.

I myself found it terribly hard to accept my gender as I blamed other people and hurt so many near to me in doing it, however once I did accept it I found a whole new world open up to me.

Granted people are all different and it will take some time so don’t worry if it takes you a while to accept this Rome was not built in a day, but you will find inner peace when you accept who and what you are.

Your friends maybe going through exactly the same so if you can accept it they will draw confidence from you and accept it too remember you lead the way for others to follow.

Thanks Zell12 It is my quest in life to teach equality and awareness of LGBT issues because in doing this, people will then understand just how hard it is for LGBT people to accept for themselves who they are..

It was wonderful to see someone lend out a reaching hand for those who maybe are unable to truly understand what it means to be gay,bi,or whatever the preference is. Awareness is key to let people know especially at a young age that loving yourself for who you are and accepting the truth can have its rewards.

Very good way of putting it, thanks for posting. A few of my friends feel like they are not accepted because of this and I try to make it seem as if many people I know are going through it also, even though I do not know many others. My friends are getting better recently with accepting themselves. They, and all people trying to accept themselves, have to realize that they cannot help what they are drawn towards. If they are drawn towards something, they should go for it because that is what God planned for them. I wish you the best, and keep writing. I'll definitely be coming back to check out your page frequently. :)

You certainly have given people who are going through this understanding. I have sent this link to my sister so that she can read what you are writing. She is pretty grounded with her and her partner but some of her closest friends are not, Thank you for another great read. :)
