Best Dating Websites for Seniors and Older Adults
About the Author
Let's just say I've been around the block a time or two when it comes to finding and using online dating sites. Some of my experiences have been positive and the ones that weren't so great taught me a thing or two about people and dating in this digital age.
Online Dating for Baby Boomers and Seniors
People of all ages surf the Internet for news, engaging in social media, entertainment and more. One of the fastest growing segments of the population who are logging in and participating in the world wide web? People age 65 and older.
It's no secret that people the world over are joining online dating websites with the hope of meeting new people or finding a dating partner or two. Although in some minds, those who are active in such dating websites are the 20 somethings, the fact is just as in the physical world, people of all ages can join in the fun in the virtual world too.
Tips for Those New to Online Dating
There are some general rules to heed when engaging in online friendships or dating; age or sex make no difference. These rules can be summed up under one heading: Safety first. Safety of your person, your financial information, even the safety of family and other friends.
- Don't reveal identifying information that could put your safety at risk. Don't give out phone numbers, date of birth, address or like info until you've determined the person to whom you're talking has earned your trust.
- Don't let the other person rush you into anything you aren't comfortable with. Some people are in a hurry to get past chats and emails and either want to speak with you by phone or meet in person. Anyone who tries to push you past your comfort level does not have your best interests at heart.
- If you decide to meet in person, arrange to meet in a public place of your choosing. Drive yourself there; don't allow the other person to pick you up before the first meeting. Tell a friend where you will be, briefly about the meet-up and arrange for either a set time you will call that person to let them know you are okay and/or at home or arrange for a special word you can use to let your friend know you need help.
- Use your good judgment and intuition to develop a sense of the other person beyond what s/he tells you. Reduce or eliminate contact with anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable.
At-a-Glance Dating Websites for Baby Boomers and Seniors
Free Dating Websites for Baby Boomers and Older Adults
Silverfishing.com: You may join this site for free and receive all the services of a paid dating website. Membership here opens the door to a total of 19 different online communities, diverse in the interests of its various members, such as a site for Hispanics, lesbians, Jewish, Asian, Christian and more.
SeniorConnect.com: This dating site advertises itself to be for baby boomers and other older adults and boasts a membership of 12 million.
BoomingHearts.com: This website is exclusively for people age 50 and over. Like some of the paid sites, BoomingHearts provides a personality questionnaire designed to make the process of finding someone with whom you're likely to be compatible. The site also provides advanced search features that may not mean much to you at first, but as you hone your skills, you'll find this feature useful. Private chat is also available, meaning you can talk one-on-one with someone if you choose rather than talking in an open forum.
DatingforSeniors.com: All the pictures on the site's home page are of middle-aged to senior adults, but I did not see anything that precludes younger people from also joining the site. You can search for members by zip code, age, sex or nickname.
BabyBoomerPeopleMeet: To me, the name of the site is deceptive because in the terms for joining the site, you need only be age 18 or older. There are two levels of membership. A free membership allows you to use some functions at the site; to use all of the functions requires a paid membership. You might wish to join as an unpaid member to check out this website and consider a paid membership if it seems to meet your needs.
MatureFreeAndSingle: This website's name about says it all. The site is aimed at people over 40, so baby boomers and seniors fit that bill. A standard membership is free; a paid membership allows you wider use of the site's features.
50PlusClub: With more than 150,000 members, it's a fair-sized community for meeting and engaging with others. A standard membership is free; a paid membership allows use of all features on the site. Even if all you're looking for are friends, you can build your own network of whichever people you choose.
SeniorFriendFinder: Don't let the name fool you; there are many people among the 300,000 members who, like you, are open to the possibilities that a relationship may bring. This is another dating site that is free to join, but you'll be limited on what features you can use unless you opt for a paid membership.

Chemistry.com: Another site of Match.com, this site features a personality test when you sign up for free designed to then match you with compatible folks. Unlike eHarmony, Chemistry.com will match same-sex couples. Match.com: Unlike SeniorMatch.com, this site is for adults of all ages, but the good news is it claims to have 2.5 million older adults in its community; that's one-fourth of the community that is age 50 or older. Paid Membership Online Dating Sites for Baby Boomer and Older Adults
OurTime: This site is for single people age 50 and over to meet other singles. You can join for free, upload a profile and view other members for free. To be able to contact members, you must upgrade, meaning pay a fee. Fees start at 19.99/month. The site includes dating tips and articles that you can access for free.
When reading the terms of membership, anyone 18 years of age or older may join, meaning not everyone who joins the site is necessarily age 50 or older. This website bills itself as the site where serious older adults go to find "meaningful relationships." That may be true in part, but don't assume everyone who is a member is looking for a long-term or committed relationship.
