Black Women And Asian Men Less Likely To Marry Than Other Groups

Updated on February 8, 2013

Black women are stepping out and dating non-Black men today more than any other time in American history.

Regarding interracial dating, Black women are not as statistically active as other groups like White women, Asian women, Black men and others. Black women are steadily beginning to open up to dating non-Black men- while the rate of Black males who date non-Black women continuously rise year by year. This rise in interracial dating will dramatically change interracial statistics throughout the next 10 years.

In 2008 there were various studies and assessments composed regarding interracial marriage. These studies show that 58% of Black women who wedded non-Black men wedded White men. That is a huge portion of the small group of Black women who choose to cross the race lines to look for a relationship. Of the total group who took part in interracial unions in 2008, 11% were Black/White marriages.

In 2008, 24% of all Black women who married non-Black men married Hispanic men. That's fewer than half as often as the rate for Black women and White men. Black women married Asian men at a rate of 5.5% in the same year. They wedded all "Other" races (Native American, Biracial) at a rate of 11.6%. That's over two times as often as a Black woman Asian man union. Only 4.8% of the Asian men in interracial marriages married Black women. Asian men are over 3 times as likely to wed a Hispanic woman than a Black woman, research has shown. Can this mean that Black women and Asian men are not interested in one another? It's very unlikely no matter what the statistics show.

It is sensible to mention that this facts will not substantiate that Black women are more drawn to White men than all other non-Black man group. I would go so far as to say it doesn't prove that Asian men are not keen on Black women. As Black women continually find themselves dating non-Black men, I know that marriage stats between Black women and non-White men will rise as well.

I've been married twice; once outside of my race and once within my race. Most people don't marry a "race", they marry the person they fall in love with.

The president of the United States is the product of a bi-racial relationship. The black lecturer and abolitionist Frederick Douglass married a white woman, (Helen Pitts) in 1884.

The motto of his newspaper The North Star was "Right is of no Sex – Truth is of no Color – God is the Father of us all, and we are all brethren."

Hopefully one day there will be no point in tracking such statistics.
