Buying the most perfact diamond

Updated on October 25, 2008

So you've met the girl of your dreams.........

Your probably starting to contemplate the idea of marriage. You might even have your mind set that you are ready to take the big leap. If so then CONGRATS! Before you run off and buy the largest and most expensive ring you can find just take a moment to review these quick tips. The 4Cs! You may have heard people refer to them and were not quiet sure what they ment. The 4Cs are what make a quality diamond. These 4 Cs are color, cut, clarity and carat.

Color

Color is the first C we will discuss. Color is important to in choosing a diamond. This attribute is determined solely by nature and not by man. The color scale ranges from D to Z, the closer the diamond is to the D scale then diamond is clear. After Z the diamond begins to take on the "fancy colors" that are growing in popularity. Colorless diamonds are tradition pick for an engagement ring and are the most rare.

Clarity

When a diamond is form it will trap some of the surrounding minerals in the stone. The "blemishes","birthmarks" or "inclusions" are naturally occuring and will have an impact on cost. Clarity is measured on a scale ranging from pure to heavily included .

Cut

The cut is what makes the diamond sparkle. The cut is what makes the diamond and what catches your eye. When a diamond is cut to good proportions, light is refracted from one facet to another, then dispersed through the top of the diamond. When a diamond is cut too deep, some light escapes through the opposite side of the diamond. If the diamond is cut too shallow, light escapes through the bottom of the stone before it can be reflected.

Last and definately not least CARAT!!!!!!

The carat is what mos women go crazy over. If you dont beleive me show a girl a 1 carat ring and see how big her eyes will get. The carat is in face the size or weight of the diamond.

The End

Hopefully this little bit of info helps you when your off ring hunting, remember no attribute is more important that the other. It takes all 4 Cs to make the perfact diamond.
