Hanging up the Ten Commandments

Updated on January 17, 2011

Ten Commandments

The entertainment industry which produced among others, the movie called the Ten Commandments with Charleston Heston, has accrued phenomenal exposure for the Christian world but ironically; it has also been the same entertainment industry that today is largely responsible for the moral decadence in our society. The conscience of the young are being "assassinated", they are being seared with hot iron and for this cause, they have lost any notion of morality.

We now have a group of young men and women who have been unable to bear up under the inherited mental assault that was partly by their parents misgiving, and have become a nation of "sleepers". Today the readng and math scores in our schools have fallen to number 20 on the international testing chart.

Is America sacrificing it's future for its present?

This is not just an imagined notion but reality of which there are daily facts and evidences to prove this downturn of society. We as a country must respond to the present calamity to save their future and give them a heritage or face the collision with inescapable fatalities.

There is also a sector of the religiosity who have been quick to wave aside the Ten Commandments and impiously declare that it was only for the Old Testament and so continue in their assumed liberty not knowing that the Old Testament was God’s word as he unveiled his Son. Therefore, we take our liberty for granted and continue in sin expecting more grace to abound.

But we see that disregarding the Ten Commandments has fostered moral decay and ultimately physical weaknesses in today’s society.

God told Cain that if he did not do well he would not be accepted and that there was sin at the door (Gen.4:7, Rom.6:23).

Cain, God's first man by birth, was rebellious and in a moment of fury, he disregarded God's words and killed his brother. He was then disallowed from God's community. How many more young men are we willing to disallow from our communities. The jails have become a booming financial institution of which the market value of the stocks to put someone away has been kept low keyed. In other words, some one is making money out of our kids failures.

When the Ten Commandments came by Moses, God's servant, Israel exposed their refusal to keep God’s commandments and this refusal was partly because they had no reverence for the living God.

The people of the Living God had ceased to portray His Excellence as one that is Most Holy, Most Righteous and the one that is indelibly and absolute Truth.

In the Book of Acts the Holy Spirit in Peter’s ministry sets up a standard which was a revelation of God now being revealed in the New Testament.

In chapter 5 we read of how Ananias and his Sapphira sold a piece of land and lied to God as they agreed to hold back part of the money for which the land was sold for themselves and lied to the Apostle concerning the actual price. God discontinued this before Satan could get a hold in His infant church. He used a simple principle which reflected the Ten Commandments: thou shall not lie or bear false witness.

To bear false witness could mean to carry a counterfeit word.

Just as a nation punishes one that prints counterfeit dollar bills so likewise is it done in God’s kingdom. Ananias and Sapphira had agreed to lie against the one to whom the land was sold, to get an advantage but they ignored God’s law which had been written in their hearts.

Hence, the one who ignore righteousness is a seeker of death (dead things, dead issues, and dead mind-sets).

King Solomon said in Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

And so we see as the fear of the Lord goes, sin creeps in to the point where we have become a people that pattern themselves after sinners. Thereby, the Christian church has begun to imitate the world rather than imitating the Lord Jesus.

And so sickness has increased, violence has gone off the chain and politics has become a joke.

In fact, in today’s world, it is easy to be in the entertainment industry as a comedian because comedy as become nothing more than watching the government and report the facts.

The Ten Commandments gave man defined limitations that would benefit his Christian walk.

Example, every child from birth goes through cultivation by its parents to bring forth a reasonable adult but the children who were not trained or cultivated, who were left up to themselves without restraint will undoubtedly be a nemesis to society.

He will always believe he has to compete with society.

Because there was no training from youth, therefore he had,

· no instilling of his defined purpose within the community,

· no recognition that there is one God and

· no clear definition of what’s right and what’s wrong

· no knowledge of repentance

What is the Answer?

The people of God must become assertive;

· they must make a resolve

· they must become forceful

· they must make a commitment to strategically do warfare on all that is immoral

When I say do warfare I do not mean take some sticks and break some bones, which would be ridiculous for our fight is not against flesh and blood but against the kingdom of darkness.

The scripture says in Matthew 11:12 that from the days of John the Baptist, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence but the violent take it by force.

As people of God we have to learn to have the characteristics of our God;

· talk like Him,

· think like Him and

· expect like He does

We have to have the bara confession in our mouth but we will only be able to genuinely act imitate our God if we have His presence by His word.

The book of Hebrews said that the world is held up by the word of His power.

God promised that He would make a covenant with us, which he has done, for in Hebrews 10:16 Paul speaking under inspiration of the Holy Ghost said,

“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them”.

But we see that there has been a failure in Christians to execute the laws of God because we have not walked as epistles read of all men. When we are in church we act like the Lord's epistle but on the streets of Chicago we become another kind of epistle.

Finally the Apostle Paul said, in Roman 3:31, "Do we then by this faith make the Law of no effect, overthrow it, or make it a dead letter? Certainly not! On the contrary, we confirm and establish and uphold the Law. (The Amplified Bible)
