Choosing Gifts for Your Lover

Updated on April 18, 2007

The art of gift giving takes some forethought and a bit of work, but it is worth it when you see their reaction to receiving something that you took time and thought into purchasing just for them. Selecting the appropriate gift requires some knowledge and sensitivity of your partner. The reasons for your gift will vary but the focus should remain on him / her. Each gift should reflect their special tastes and interests.

Think about their likes and dislikes, favorite colors, hobbies and interests. Learn what their favorite things are and you will have your answer for gift giving. Do they like movies, colors, chocolates, books, CD's, scents, authors, or candles? Keep a list of things and add to it when you think of a new idea or you see him or her looking at something in the store that they really want but won't purchase for themselves.

Almost everyone has a passion of some sort! What better expression of love than to give them something that reflects that passion?

Coffee lover = a special cup and flavored coffee

Golf nut = golf gloves or a subscription to a golf magazine

Movie buff = movie tickets or a book or magazine centered around movies or their favorite movie set on DVD

Loves sexy clothing = lingerie or a gift certificate to her favorite lingerie store

Sports fan = season tickets to their favorite team or sport magazine subscription

Gadget lover = iPod or iPod case or both!

You get the idea!

Wrapping a gift is part of the gift giving process and presentation. Not wrapping a present undermines the impact of your gift. However, wrapping does not have to be the old tradition of wrapping the gift in paper. Use your creativity to make the wrapping just as special as your gift giving.

Here are some creative wrapping ideas:

  • Comic section of the newspaper
  • 2-3 layers of colorful tissue paper tied up with ribbon
  • A basket
  • Gardeners bucket full of gardening tools
  • Fabric drawstring bag
  • Shaped box (can be found at craft stores)
  • Stuffed animal purse - can be found in toy departments, good for giving an item of jewelry or lingerie
