Five Hottest Gifts a Man Can Give a Woman for Valentine's Day and Beyond

Updated on February 3, 2010

Hot Gifts-Money Can't Buy You Love

As a man, buying gifts for the special lady in your life can range from frustrating to downright depressing. Commercials extol you to show your love with jewelry, flowers, cards, even cell phones! The media tells you that even though she may insist she wants nothing more than a card, she’s "telling a bold faced lie". What a load of rubbish, and even worse, what a great way to make guys feel like crap about themselves while desperately trying to find a great gift for any special occasion. Because, as a woman, I feel bad for you poor gentlemen out there who are being forced down the plank into the icy waters of consumerism, let me tell you what a real woman wants.

#1 Attention From You

Many women want nothing more than a large slice of your undivided attention, which makes for a far greater gift than a bunch of half-wilted roses that cost $40.00. Internet boards are full of "WoW widows", "hunting widows", and widows of men who love just about every hobby ever discovered. They whine, they complain and they mope about how their men are obsessed with the hobby while the women are ignored. Take a cue from these misguided fellows and carve out time to spend together, whether it be a trip to the zoo or a candlelit dinner at home.

#2 A Gift for Something She Loves to Do

Many women feel like the men in our lives never listen to anything we have to say, so how would they even know what our interests our? Of course, you may be listening, but doing a poor job of showing it. Prove to her that you find her fascinating and that you have been paying attention by giving a gift that supports a hobby she loves. Whether it be a fascinating new berry hybrid for the gardener, a book for the bibliophile, or a shiny new water bottle for the exercise enthusiast, a gift tailored to her interest shows you know her well.

#3 A Chance to Feel Pampered by You

Any woman can go out and find a massage at a day spa by cucumber cool masseuses who encourage deep breathing and yoga stretches, but how many women can go home and be soothed by the touch of her man’s hands? Men are plagued by impatience, to move on past this stupid massage and get to the finish line, whether that be sex or a good movie and some alone time. Instead of rushing towards a goal, pamper your woman by showering her with physical affection, massages, cuddles, etc. without the looming feeling of impatience or obligation.

What do you think women want to be gifted with?

#4 A Vacation

Ok, I won’t lie, this one does cost some money. But in times when material possessions seem less and less important, many people are beginning to spend more money on experiences. A vacation can lift some of the weariness off of your’s and your partner’s shoulders, and it doesn’t even have to be to anywhere expensive like Tahiti or Hawaii. A simple long weekend at a local bed and breakfast with a tub for two can provide memories to last a lifetime. A purse cannot do this, nor can a cell phone, or lingerie...

#5 A Fantasy

Even though many women moan and groan about how they can’t stand it if their husbands chase them around anymore, I bet you those women would miss the attention if it were suddenly to disappear. Perhaps the problem is also that quantity does not equal quality. Reach into the core of any woman and she’ll have some sort of naughty fantasy she really wishes could be indulged, but perhaps is far too scared of rejection to divulge or enact. During a quiet moment pry the information out of her, and then make her wildest dreams come true. Don't let her try to shyly back out of it either, she's probably still afraid of rejection. Hey, it's just another trait we both share!

To a woman based in reality the good things in life aren’t based on purses and shoes, it’s about spending time with the ones you love and making memories to tide us through the dark times in life. The best gift of all, your love.

P.S. to husband: If you ever read this please buy gladiator outfit and wear when I get home from work. Thank you my slave:)

A very effective gift is to make a selection of ballads and make a CD with them, of course if the woman loves music. That could be a complement to a more mundane gift.
