Get a Date Online - A Site that Really Works

Updated on November 9, 2011

Finding a Date Online: Where to Start

Our busy, career-driven lifestyles are making it more difficult to find love. As a result, many people are turning to the world of online dating in order to find a mate. While getting a date can be relatively easy, finding a soul mate can prove to be much more difficult. It's important to evaluate what kind of relationship you are looking for. This will help you determine how much time and/or money you want to invest in finding your perfect match online.

Selecting an Online Dating Site

When I started my online dating adventure, I was looking to meet someone very special and very compatible. I was no longer interested in dating for fun or just looking for a good time. For this reason, I decided to go with Eharmony.com. I chose this site because I knew that I would be able to weed out the people who were not serious about finding a mate. This site offers an extensive questionnaire to determine your "likes" and "dislikes," your "haves" and "must not haves." Then the site will send matches your way for a potential date. While the process is somewhat daunting, it's definitely worth your while to take the time and answer the questions truthfully.

Why Online Dating Worked For Me

After signing up for an account and paying the membership fees, I decided that I would let the matches come to me. I figured that if a man was truly interested after looking at my profile and photos, he would initiate contact. I exchanged emails with a few different men before one caught my attention.

It only took a few emails to discover how much we had in common. We clicked immediately and scheduled a phone date within a few days. Before we knew it, our phone dates turned into hours-long conversations. We couldn't believe that finding a match online could be this easy.

I believe that it worked because I was specific about my interests and never pretended to be something that I am not. When we began speaking online, there was no hidden agenda and Eharmony guided our communication and directed the level of seriousness from the beginning.

Happily Ever After

I can't recommend highly enough using an online dating site that emphasizes similar interests and matching based on the different dimensions of your personality. Within a few weeks, my date and I were discussing love and marriage even though we had never met in person. We spent two and a half months using Skype to date online and had many more lengthy conversations getting to know each other better. We finally met the day he moved to another state to be with me. We were married three months later and couldn't be happier. All of this wouldn't have been possible if I wasn't willing to take a chance with online dating and choosing a site that is geared toward matching soul mates.

Are you kidding me that site is awful. I also believe in online dating since I met my fiance online but that website took a standard psychological test and disguised it as a love matching survey.

Thanks for your thoughts, Mizsnow. But I'm confused as to what the difference is between a psychological test and a love matching survey. What would you suggest be different about the survey to make it more effective?
