Great presents to bring to a third date

Updated on June 25, 2012

So you are an old fashioned romantic at heart and you really want to woe a girl on the third date. Great idea, but how do you do this successfully? An expensive present or grand gesture can come across as needy or pushy. You don’t want to scare her off but you don’t want to come across as cheap either. When it comes to the third date it is important you find the right balance. Something thoughtful and special is the best way to her heart and ensures you of staying away from the singles scene. To help you, here are a few small gestures that show you are happy to see her again:

A surprise

Invite your girl out for a regular date. It is still early days so she should say yes to an ordinary night out. Instead of actually taking her out to the cinema or a restaurant, take her somewhere special. Something extraordinary she will never forget. This can, but doesn’t have to be expensive. You could take her somewhere new or for a picnic underneath the stars. Make sure it is something thoughtful and fun for the both of you.The element of surprise should be enough to make her heart melt a little.

A home cooked meal

Cooking a meal is probably one of the nicest things you can do for a girl. It takes effort, imagination and time to prepare a decent meal and a girl will appreciate it. Just casually ask her about her favourite food and make sure someone tells you how to prepare it.

The old fashioned mix tape or mix cd is great little present that is easily made. Combine a few good songs from different artists. Only give her a mix cd if you think she would appreciate this gesture. If she isn’t in to music or you have no clue what type of music she likes it has little to no use to give her a mix cd. If you do know her music style, make sure you add a good mixture of new and old music. Write her name on the CD with a little note. It will show her you are getting to know her better and you listen to her when she tells you something.

The all-time favourite of every man alive: a nice bouquet of flowers. You can’t go wrong with a present that is colourful and smells nice. It is not very imaginative but you can make up with that by making sure it is a huge bouquet of expensive flowers. But please refrain from the cheap ones you can buy at your local supermarket.

A small present

It is a third date and you are only just getting to know each other so don’t go and buy her anything expensive. Impress her with a little trinket. If she likes to write you could give her a small pretty notebook. If she is a coffee lover you could get her a funky travel mug. Just make sure it is relevant and thoughtful. Big presents will scare here away but a small trinket shows you care about her and it should bring you closer.

Flowers die too quickly - never a good gift.

I'd go for something with a longer life span!

A mix tape is not only romantic, but also a funny gift nowadays.

I think there is a present for every stage. To ask her to go on holiday together after the 3rd date might be a bit extreme, I guess. It would definitely spook me!

My girlfriend have given me keys to her flat twice now (different flats) and I think that is really romantic. Vacations to meaningful places, like home, is too.

So many good ideas are coming up here that I'd suggest the following: a bouquet flowers at a surprise holiday during a candlelight dinner.

I hope it's not much to ask! :-D

I think flowers are not as impacting as a great dinner out with a nice wine.

I agree with @Josh here, little surprises are the best option. But you can always bet on the home cooked meal, that's as romantic as it gets!

I like flowers but I agree with Josh, the 'surprise' factor is definitely important. If I always received flowers then the gesture would lose its magic.

      @YouKnowWho... I'd love a holiday please :-D

@Josh yes the element of surprise makes any gift extra special.

I think little surprises can be quite romantic! As long as they don't always expect it.. Otherwise it wouldn't be a surprise :-)

@Matt thanks for your comment. You are right: flowers and a meal. You can't go wrong with that combo!

A bouquet of flowers always gets to a girl's heart.. and my girlfriend says she finds flowers a very romantic gesture. Add a nice dinner and you can't go wrong!
