Her Marriage...

Updated on March 5, 2012

There was a considerable silence,

the quiet was by choice,

then she was looking at him steadily,

and speaking in a soft, even voice,

his back was to the door,

and his eyes on the floor,

he was promiscuous with no cure,

but she loved him,

in that she was sure,

he was dishonest, ignorant

and immature,

that left her cold,

he brought her so much tears,

during the first two years,

her marriage was without purpose,

undirected, aimless,

but her divorce was

going to be quick and painless.

Ohhhhh, well done! I was so pleasantly surprised at the end, afraid that this sorrowful lass would just continue to put up with the ass! LOL Thanks for the chuckle.

Sad piece but happens all too often

This is heart rendering. Divorce is intollerable. Why are so many men unable to love only one. Great work here.

Good one Frank. You've really captured the essence of it in the great title. Your succinct verse really tells the tale but I doubt that the divorce was painless for her. Sort of an oxymoron: painless divorce is frequently uncommon. :)

Wow, I loved the way you brought both people to life with such few words. They were real, the situation was so common and very heartfelt. I have experienced this womans pain. The title was so perfect. It was her marriage because she was the one who took it seriously. You are a great writer!

      Damn. What a refreshing poem.

You took a common situation that is so rarely covered in poetry and did it beautifully:]

      Hi Frank,

Divorce is sad but what is sadder are those who choose to stay in a loveless marriage because they are afraid to be alone.

      Voted up and awesome.

      Have a good evening. :)

I hate how often this poem is present in today's society. Someone is usually looking to the other side of the fence...

In the words of a great friend, Terry Howell, the grass is always greenest over the septic tank...
