Hot Date Ideas

Updated on September 11, 2012

Rent a Mini-Yacht!

Best Date Ideas

There are times in your life when you want to plan an extra special date. You may have just met the love of your life or you may want to ask your partner to become your betrothed. You may want to impress a new love or rekindle and old one, either way what's life without experiencing an extravagant gesture on a special occasion?

Dates such as these can be unforgettable and they are certain to create an ever lasting memory for you and your date. What has been your favorite date up to this point? Why do you remember it? You do, because the moment in time was so special it has been engraved in the timeline of your memory bank.

With thought and consideration you can create evenings that won't be forgotten and will endear you to your heart's desire.

Rent a Limo

You can rent a limousine by the hour or some services have rates for blocks of hours in the evening. Limousines are stocked with wet bars, food, champagne and music. Most limousines are extremely spacious and designed for privacy. Nothing is sexier than a car with an extended chassis!

The best part is, you don't have to worry about which one of you will be the designated driver. Have the limousine service send the driver to your front door step. You can romance your date, drive around town and see the sights while you pump her full of the "YES" kool-aid.

If you can afford it or if you have an extra special occasion, you can even rent an Exotic Limousine. Many services offer weekly specials. This could be a great first date even if you just drove around all evening. I would suggest driving around a very populated area and stopping for a drink or dinner somewhere along the way. In St. Louis, the riverfront area is the best place to be chauffeured through the city - there are bars, live bands, crowds of people walking and the romantic riverfront.

You can not go wrong if you plan to pick your date up in a limo!

Dine on a Yacht

Leave the city behind you and charter a yacht! If you live in a coastal area the prices can be very reasonable for a rental on a smaller yacht. You could wine and dine your date or bring along another couple for an amazing double date. If you are on a first date or a super special date - renting a yacht will help you seal your deal.

There is nothing more romantic than being surrounded by a vast body of water while you nibble on cheese and crackers. You can lie on deck and share a bottle of your favorite beverage and star gaze. Even if your date is a dud - the adventure would be worth it.

Sailing Mishaps!

Sailing isn't for sissies. If you happen to be an experienced sailor it would be an awesome date. Make sure your date is up for it, somewhat athletic and a good swimmer. Find out if they are good "mate" material. Sailing can be a sport where team work is required to keep the boat afloat. Activities that are a bit of a challenge can help you discover how fast your date thinks on their feet. You can guage if a person is a sore loser or dissolves under pressure on these type of dates.

There is a lot of psychology in the dating game. The human species spends a lot of time preening and show boating. Humans are choosy and there is much ado about choosing the right mate. We base a lot on looks but what about functionality? How do we know a person can work through problems effectively?

A Challenging Date

The television show called, "The Great Escape." would be a great test for any couple considering marriage. Three teams of two partners are challenged to work their way through a series of mazes of physical and mental challenges. They must depend on each other to figure out and solve problems to win $100,000.

The couples are sometimes husband and wife, brother and sister, friends or couples who are dating. As you watch the challenge unfold you can see the incredible strengths or weaknesses each couple has working together. Some teams fall apart physically while others fall apart mentally. It's an interesting demise to observe.

First you can see the grimaces and body language, clues that one partner is upset or annoyed by the other. Even though the people do realize they are being video taped for television during every moment, you can see fragments of their true personalities seeping out. I have seen both males and females reduce themselves to openly blaming their partner for slight mistakes.

Now, these challenges are tough but imagine, if you can't help and respect each other through a challenge that spans several hours - can you imagine how these people would react in real life? Yes. You can.

If you are really checking out your date for marriage material - take them on a date that is a challenge to see how well you will be able to resolve issues together or will one of you fall apart and have a little temper tantrum when met with adversity?

If you are a male control freak - you might like the type of woman who dissolves in tears and allows you to "rescue" her. If you are the type of woman who likes to think for herself, you may butt heads with an overly controlling male. This is a great way to find out if the two of you can face the challenges that life will ultimately offer each and every one of us, eventually if not frequently.

Murder Mystery Train Ride and Dinner

Have Dinner on a Train!

There are trains in many places throughout North America as well as internationally. Trains are a really fun means of transportation. The tracks often run through parts of the world that are never covered on foot or paved with roads. Many trains offer packages for dinner excursions for an unusual night of fun and excitement.

You can book a two hour tour or a 10 day tour. There are specials all around the world that are planned for couples or families to enjoy. Some trains have sleeping cars and are quite extravagant. Some trains are not as fancy but are a cheap way to cover a long distance for a great date.

My husband and I took the kids on a day trip to Chicago from St. Louis last summer. We boarded the train at 5 a.m., arrived in Chicago at the main terminal downtown by 10 in the morning. We spent the day walking around Chicago, shopping the magnificent mile and enjoying the sights. We purchased 'day passes' on a water taxi and were spirited around town on the water taxi when we wanted to visit another part of the city.

In a short period of time we visited Chinatown, The Miracle Mile and The Navy Pier.

It was a fantastic trip that was so cheap it was ridiculous. A train ticket through Amtrak was about $24.00 for St. Louis to Chicago. After a full day of shopping, lunch and dinner we got on the train bound for St. Louis and everyone was home by midnight. Any date night is a great night for a train ride.

Get Box Seat Tickets for an Event

Search a ticket broker site for events that are happening near you. If you are trying to impress your date - nothing says it better than taking them to see a musician or concert of a star they enjoy. It is obvious that you thought of their pleasures and very likely your date will reciprocate that affection.

Concerts, plays, even sporting events can be a great night out. I love going down town to a Cardinal's or Ram's game even though I don't follow it on television necessarily. The atmosphere is lively, home crowds are always entertaining and if the date goes well you can continue it after the game.

Places you should never go on first date.

There are certain places that you should never take a first date - or even a second or third date. Following are a few places you should not take a date, no matter how good your intentions are, until you are very comfortable together.

  • In the woods - never suggest or drive your new date to a location in the wilderness. It is freaky and creepy.
  • To meet your mom/dad/family. It is freaky and creepy.
  • To a livestock auction - no matter how cool you think it is.
  • To a Fast Food Restaurant. Just don't.
  • To a Gun/Knife Show. Again, freaky and creepy.
  • The couch. Do not plan a couch date. Watching television together is not a date. This type of date screams "cheap" and "lazy".

It doesn't matter if it's a first date or your 20th Anniversary - spending quality time focusing on having fun together is tantamount to a healthy relationship. Take time to plan a thoughtful date and you will be certain to make your special someone, love you more!

No matter who you are - there's a perfect match for you!

"You can't stop loving or wanting to love because when it's right it's the best thing in the world. When you are in a relationship and it's good, even if nothing else in your life is right, you feel like your whole world is complete." ~Keith Sweat

ROTFL Trusouldj - AWESOME point! If you have no dinero - don't even ask! lol

Unless of course you are sure it is TRUE love - then you just straight up tell the chick - "I am flat broke but I'd sure like it if you wanted to take me out on a date because I could live on your love alone!" lol

Oh I wish I had been your date then Mhatter99! Cats in NY would have been fantastic! Now...chicken a la king from any general hospital? Well I just hope you don't end up holding her hand in the emergency room after she gets food poisoning:) haha Good luck with that!

Amy you are killing me! hahaha! Ok well then I suppose you see the point I was trying to make huh? hahaha Yeah watch that show Great Escape - and you can tell which people NEED to escape - their partner! lol I have observed many couples involved in tasks - and I know it's kinda weird...but I pay attention to how successfully they seem to work together. I always notice - like on a canoe trip for example - the couples than can have a great day together working to keep the canoe afloat or they start to gripe and complain. Then you see them hating on each other - they are the couple that perpetually argue the whole trip, you know? But all the couples that are falling in and then laughing and trying to figure out how to best guide the boat - seem to be the happiest people. So I have a theory that people should really do something that calls for team work to see how successful they work together - as a team. This will probably be a great predictor for how you work your life out too, dont you agree?

Thanks Amy! I always love your hilarious or insightful comments!

All really great ideas, RealHousewife. I had to laugh when I read the "sailboating" experience. My ex and I lived in Raintree Plantation in Hillsboro, MO. Our home faced a 153 acre lake and I loved it. My ex decided he wanted to take sailing lessons (he was an ex-Navy man). Of course, then came the sailboat. He had just completed his lessons when he talked me into taking the sailboat out on the lake. After hours of struggling, we were still floundering in the cove!! I managed to fall in the lake and, cussing like a sailor, I said "this is no fun at all." I never got back in that damn boat and he sold it not long thereafter. And, like I said, he's now an ex...

Your list of "Places you should never go on a first date" is hilarious because it's so true! Freaky and creepy are the right adjectives. Love your ideas, Kelly, and love your sense of humor even more. I get the feeling you have fun no matter where you are or how you get there!!!

Thank you Terrye! Yeah if some dude tried to give me a happy meal on the tail gate - he'd find out why I call it a sad meal:) haha My husband keeps asking me what I have planned for our anniversary - like a little kid who can't wait for a surprise! I swear, no matter how old a guy gets he still loves a surprise every now and then:)

Thank you for this very important dating information, Kelly. Especially about the 'don't' as regards a fast food dinner date.

I had a dinner date once and we drove to the nearest Burger King. He said, I"m going to park the car. You go in and order anything you want."

So I went in and ordered a cab!

Hi Kelly, these are very romantic ideas you have here. I like simplicity and wouldn't mind a picnic for my first date. I sort of hate the regular dinner and movie kind of dates. I also like the fact you have the don'ts at the end there. Never go to the woods as you never really know what the person is capable of.
