How Many Beat Downs Will It Take Before Annie Gets A Gun?
When Abused Women Strike Back
How much physical or emotional abuse does it take for a woman to fight back? When will Annie get tired of the beat downs, the bruises, the assaults and the psychological tortures that have altered her life and turned her into a victim of repeated spousal abuse at the hands of this man she calls her husband? How many times will she listen as he tells her she is worthless and stupid and that she should just kill herself because she is a parasite and leech? A bad mother, a useless, good for nothing slut who is not worthy to even see her own children?
More often than not, a battered and abused woman will stay down for the count, but many times a woman caught in this torture trap will get back up and say, "I am done. I will not accept this and I will fight back", and that is when Annie will get a gun. That is when the abuser will become the hunted, the prey.
Abusers count on their victims' sense of learned helplessness. Most think that their victims will never fight back. They convince themselves that they are superior, that they are all-powerful, that they can inflict as much pain and degradation as they desire, and they can do it with no personal consequences. It is that egotistical, narcissistic view of the world that blind sides them.
When an abused woman decides to fight back, the coward doesn't even see it coming. He thinks that he has convinced everyone, including his victim, that he is the perfect husband, the 'good' one...He has nothing to fear.
To All Abusers: Learn To Sleep With One Eye Open
The stories of battered women killing their abusers while they sleep make it seem as if the women cannot possibly prove that there was an 'imminent' threat, so why would they even do it? These women are not thinking about a criminal defense strategy; they are, on the contrary, only thinking that this is the one and only way that they can be free of their tormenter. At the point when the abused takes action, she does not care about any consequences. She has already been tortured and beaten and threatened; jail might seem a welcome respite.
In reality though, most women who kill their abusers do NOT kill them while they sleep. They do it while these animals are awake.
If you are an abuser, and you know who you are, keep betting that the woman you are victimizing will never fight back. Keep betting, and one day, you will lose that bet.
