How to Conquer Porn Addiction- for Christians
Overcoming the problems of pornography.
Conquering Porn- 10 Tried and True Techniques
The way to conquer porn, as I learned, is this:
#1. Put your trust in God. Pray and pray and pray. Don't quit. It took me many years. I finally got my first real breakthrough when someone told me to pray or read the Bible for one hour every day. That works. When I did that, I was not tempted. "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." (Gal 5:16, KJV)
#2. Re-train your eyes. When you see a couple, look at the man. When you see a woman, or a group of women, look only at their eyes. In movies, do not look at the main female character. They always seem to loose clothing as the film progresses. If a woman in tight clothing enters your area, leave without looking. You may need to change where you spend your time.
#3. Deliverance. Listen to deliverance ministry sermons. These people conquer devils and addictions all the time using scripture. They teach the importance of commanding spirits away with authority. This is the main tool. Deliverance and prayer are the only two techniques which have worked by themselves. The other 8 techniques here will weaken, but not kill, porn addiction.
#4. Stand by for more attacks. Scripture warns that a devil cast out returns with 7 more, uglier than itself. Also, they will make additional efforts when they perceive an opportunity: If your spouse goes out of town, if you have unsupervised alone time, the enemy sees this as an opportunity. Stay determined. If you lose some battles, remember that you are going to win the war. An evil spirit working against you is described by the ex-Satanist (now evangelist) John Ramirez. John calls this a "familiar spirit". A devil assigned to remove your peace will work to cause "coincidence" to lead you back. For example, a radio show or tv news commentator will mention a porn site (that is how I personally got hooked.)
#5. If you lose a battle, carefully go backward in memory and identify how the build up started. Likely, it is a movie, a girl walking down the street, or some other visual stimulus. Identifying the origin reinforces the importance of not yielding even the smallest toe hold to temptation.
Most people think the battle takes place the moment you sit in front of the computer, get enough money to pay for magazines, or when you walk into the video store. It isn't. The battle is won at the moment you turn the corner in the grocery store and see a woman in tight jeans and make a U-turn. It is won the moment you drive past the university and low cut tops and focus your eyes on traffic.
Each time you stumble, do a review. Pray for honesty with yourself. I expect that, like me, you will find the power of temptation began with a lingering examination of a girl in the mall. This is where you have an opportunity for victory. The devil will say something like, "Oh, she's worth it." Worth what? A setback? Hell? She's not worth it, friend. The devil is a liar.
#6. A body physically tired from exercise only wants one thing: sleep. Exercise, many times, quenches temptation. This is a short-term maneuver. Deploy this tactic in moments of desperation. Go for a jog, lift weights, or take a long walk. Have you ever heard the rumor that the military puts salt-peter in boot camp chow hall food to remove sexual desire from recruits in training? It's a myth. The observed result derives from exhaustion, not additives.
#7. When temptation comes, praise God. Just start praising God. Follow up with binding demons and commanding them to go out and not return. Ask God to send angels to protect you from the enemy attacking your mind, or in any other way causing lust. Declare scriptures like these following (I've paraphrased these to make them personal proclamations & personal belief statements. Declare these in belief. Notify the enemy he has lost):
By the stripes of Jesus, I am healed. (1 Peter 2:24)
No weapon formed against me shall prosper. (Isaiah 54:17)
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Phil 4:13)
For I am born of God and have overcome the world. This is my victory that has overcome the world- my faith. (1 John 5:4)
#8. Clear your house of all sin-related items. Throw out magazines: Playboy, FHM, swimsuit editions and etcetera. Throw away any videos that are exclusively porn. You may want to give away or eBay away other movies with nude scenes or scantily clad leading ladies as in Transformers or Romancing the Stone. Also clear out all idols: Buddha statues, candles of “Saints”, crosses, Catholic or Orthodox “icons” and etcetera. These cursed items give devils a right to be involved in your life. It's like the demonic spirit says, "See I am welcome here." Throw them out. Native American items, too: arrow heads, head dresses, art, and especially a ‘dream catcher’.
#9. Seek to live in obedience. When our actions are not what God approves, then sin is at the door, waiting (Gen 4:7.) In #8, above, the reason you must remove unholy items is that a demon entering for one cause becomes a kind of gatekeeper. He is not limited (as some teach) to the arena of life in which the door was open. Once an unwelcome guest enters in through the guest bedroom window, he will trash not just that room but also the kitchen, living room, bathroom and master bedroom. One by one, he will enter them and do his best. He will bring in his friends if he can. Look at your life and pray for wisdom in what to remove. Remove both material items and life habits.
#10. Give. Help others. Jesus said that as we do for the least of people, we do so for Him. Those who sacrifice and give in scripture are the ones who are rewarded. God wants us to live right lives. When we do this, God gives us our heart’s righteous desires. You will begin to live more and more freely. You will find more and more peace. Your personal relationships will improve.
What to Expect when You Close the Door to Porn
Once you close the door to sin, you will notice some changes.
First, your natural affection for your spouse will return. It is not possible to serve both porn and a spouse. The course of that is to love one and hate the other.
Other areas of your life will also begin to improve, normalize, and increase in positive ways. Because the enemies port of entry is barred, they cannot return to bring lust. And, they no longer can work against your emotions (anger and offense, typically), your mind (bad decisions, distrust), or your body (sickness, illness). Think back to the origin of lust for porn in your life. What was life like then? How is it now? What else started in the interim? Renounce all those things. Expect a return to better days. The enemy has come to kill, steal, and destroy. Once he is kicked out, he can no longer do those things to areas of your life.
I truly and sincerely hope you are helped by this message. May God bless you and lead you into greater and greater truth. May you conquer the enemy of addiction and then help others as well.
