How to Impress a Woman: A Woman's Take

Updated on July 2, 2009

I read this interesting write up about Men’s 10 Best Ways to Impress a Woman, and it got me thinking, what are the things about guys that I find impressive; so guys, here’s the woman’s lowdown on whether these guys are right about what they think impresses a woman.

One of the things that guys think impress women is all the door opening and bag carrying; i.e. chivalry. Well chivalry is all very well; what really matters is thoughtfulness and anticipating a woman’s needs, even if it is something as simple as giving a hug when she needs one, or realizing when to lend a hand without being asked, because remember, sometimes she is too proud to ask for what she needs.

And guys, there is such a thing as too much sensitivity. Sure be interested in a girl and ask all the important questions, but not so many that it seems like prying. And share your feelings, but do not come across as needy. Needy is a real turn off. Also there is too much honesty: tell her about your ex flames, but for heaven’s sake do not go into detail. She does not need to know her vital statistics or how successful she was at her job.

Confidence is good, being overbearing is not. Women like men who take charge and get things done, but we do not like a guy who tells us what to do and how to do it. And if you are successful, more power to you, but try not to boast too much. Blowing your own trumpet is not terribly attractive, although if your achievements come up in regular conversation, by all means talk about them.  If you underplay them, she will be the more impressed for it.

And guys, may I give you a piece of advice that I have given a couple of guys and who found it very useful: Start as you mean to go on. If you are really into a girl, you will naturally pay her many compliments, buy her lovely gifts; do this only if you are going to treat her that well always. It is a terrible let down for a girl when you suddenly stop doing all the things that you used to. So try not to go overboard in the beginning and keep up the good work that you started out with. If you were very generous to begin with, don’t then suddenly turn into a skin flint!

And in case you are wondering what the best ways not to impress a woman are, take a look here:

Remember a girl loves a guy who can make her laugh!

Great stuff & nicely written! Looks like you're doing quite well. If you want my 2 pennies (as I'm still fairly new to this myself), maybe break up the topics with headings or something - possibly throw in a pic or two as well. The content itself is great and I would imagine that this hub could get alot of traffic over time.
