How to Plan a Beauty and the Beast Disney Wedding

Updated on May 4, 2015

Tale as Old as Time

When many women (and even men) think of love stories, they will most often turn to Disney. Disney has captured the hearts and imaginations of millions of people, for many years, through it's beautiful fairy tales of love, friendship, adventure and more. One of my personal favorite Disney movies is Beauty and the Beast. This was actually my wedding theme. Here, I'll cover some of the aspects of having a Beast and the Beast Wedding, primarily focusing on the reception aspect.

Sometimes people wonder "Why would someone want to have a Beast and the Beast themed wedding," because they think people would look at the groom as being the "Beast." This is completely missing the point of the movie and the wedding theme. The movie's theme is about bending, learning, changing, and growing in one-another, which is what love is all about. This is why this makes for a lovely wedding theme.

Read on and hopefully you will be inspired!

Color Scheme

In designing a color scheme, there are various options you could choose from. Many brides choose to combine royal blue, red and yellow.

Another option would be red, black, white with hints of gold. This was the option I personally went with. The reason for this color choice was because I believe this complimented my decorations better (more about d├ęcor later) and the location of my reception had a black drape that hung and could not be removed, and I did not want this to clash with royal blue.

You would need to know your reception site, and verify if there would be any issues like the above before choosing your color scheme to make sure nothing clashes. Also, time of year for your wedding may also impact your decision on color scheme. My wedding was in December, which I believe went well with the color scheme I chose.

Wedding Song Ideas

Wedding

I will outline some of the songs from Beauty and the Beast that you may want to use for your wedding ceremony. You can also always throw in some other Disney classics to the mix if you do not want to use strictly Beauty and the Beast songs. For example, for our recessional, our pianist played "When you Wish Upon a Star." As guests were being seated, my pianist played a huge mixture of Disney songs including songs from Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen. Mix it up, and have fun!

  • Tale as Old as Time - Instrumental (There is a very lovely instrumental version on YouTube that I found that I have posted here. The username is kylelandry)
  • Tale as Old as Time - Mrs. Potts
  • Tale as Old as Time - Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson
  • Something There - Beauty and the Beast
  • Beauty & the Beast Prologue (without narration) - Beauty and the Beast
  • The Beast Dies / Transformation / Finale - Beauty and the Beast

Reception Song Ideas

Reception -

Not all of these would be from Beauty and the Beast. I am strictly using Disney Music suggestions for this list, but you could always mix other genres of songs in.

Bridal Party Entry Suggestions

  • Main Street Electrical Parade theme - Disney
  • Bibbidi-Bobbidy-Boo - Cinderella

Bride and Groom Entry Suggestions

  • Tale as Old as Time - Mrs. Potts
  • Kiss the Girl - The Little Mermaid

Dinner Music Suggestions

  • Be our Guest - Beauty and the Beast
  • While guests are eating, a selection of Disney instrumentals from various movies would be good to play as background music.

Bride and Groom First Dance

  • Tale as Old as Time - Celine Dion/Peabo Bryson
  • So This is Love - Cinderella
  • A Whole New World - Aladdin
  • Once Upon a Dream - Sleeping Beauty
  • Can You Feel the Love Tonight? - The Lion King
  • I See the Light - Tangled

Mother/Son Dance

  • Baby Mine - Dumbo
  • You'll Be in My Heart - Tarzan
  • You've Got a Friend in Me - Toy Story (Randy Newman)

Father/Daughter Dance

  • You'll Be in My Heart - Tarzan
  • We are One - Lion King Two
  • Look Through My Eyes - Phil Collins - Brother Bear

Cutting the Cake

  • Just a Spoonful of Sugar - Mary Poppins
  • Love is an Open Door - Frozen

Bouquet Toss

  • I'm Wishing - Snow White
  • Someday my Prince Will Come - Snow White
  • Poor Unfortunate Souls - The Little Mermaid (just thought I'd throw that one in for humor ;) )

Garter Toss

  • He's a Tramp - Lady & the Tramp
  • Gaston - Beauty and the Beast

Last Dance

  • Ever, Ever After - Enchanted

Bride and Groom Exit

  • When You Wish Upon a Star - Pinocchio

The Bridal Cake

The cake is a fun way to get creative with your Beauty and the Beast Disney wedding theme. I will be focusing strictly on the Bridal cake, because the Groom's cake does not really have to match the theme of the wedding, and most Grooms typically like to show their personality with their cake.

For the top of the cake, there are a few different options. Here are a few recommendations and places where you might find the cake topper. I will also provide some picture examples. Also, I may emphasize this again in the below paragraphs, but if the topper is no longer in production and is hard to find, start your search early if you are determined to have it. The cake topper I wanted was a 15th anniversary limited edition in which there were only 2,000 of. It is no longer in production, so I started searching 6 months before my wedding. I, thankfully, found it on eBay.

  • Lenox - Belle's Wedding Dreams - This is a beautiful cake topper of Belle and the Beast (in Beast form) getting married. Belle is wearing a wedding dress, while the Beast is wearing a tuxedo. I searched the Lenox website, and it is currently unavailable as of 5/3/2015, however, I was able to locate on Amazon, and the price is averaging around $103.00.
  • Lenox - My Hand, My Heart Beast figurine COMBINED with My Heart is Yours Belle figurine - These are two separate figurines by Lenox, however, you could buy both to create a beautiful cake topper for your cake. I have pictured what they both look like combined together. As of 5/3/2015, these were both located on the Lenox website, however, you may find a better deal on Amazon or eBay. Both together will probably cost about $270.00, depending on where you are able to locate them.
  • Lenox - True Love's Dance - This is a very rare, nearly impossible to find cake topper, which features Belle and the Beast in his Prince form. I am listing it here, though, because of how lovely it is. It is no longer in production, however, you may get lucky and be able to find the rare listing on eBay or some other resource. If you do find it, it will most likely be a bit costly, but I did not want to leave it off the list.
  • WDCC Beauty & the Beast/Belle and Prince - The Spell is Lifted - Again, this is another rare one. There were only 2,000 of these ever made, and it is no longer in production. This happened to be my cake topper, and I managed to find a seller in Israel who had it listed on eBay for $350.00, so if you do manage to find this one, you will most likely pay a bit for it, and it will be hard to find. I would check eBay regularly, because, in my experience, this was the one I wanted, and I continuously monitored eBay for it. I got lucky by finding it six months before my wedding, so if you know you want this topper (or any of the more rare ones), start searching EARLY.
  • Doing a search on eBay or Etsy will come up with some other options that you may like. Some include LED light options, Roses, Wire Tops, and more. You have multiple options.
  • Another idea you could do is put something simple on the top like fondue or icing roses, and opt for decorating around the cake with figurines. Jim Shore makes beautiful Beauty and the Beast pieces that you could place at the bottom of the cake as opposed to having something on top of the cake.

Cake Design Examples

Here are a few cake design set ups for inspiration purposes.

  • #1 - The first picture is my husband and mine's cake display. I discussed what cake top we used in the previous section. The roses on the cake are real. The Belle and Beast at the bottom is a Jim Shore piece. I placed my brooch bouquet there to accent. I also decorated with rose vines, white tablecloth, with a flowery overlay, and I placed white Christmas lights under the table (though you can not see those in this picture.) I designed our entire wedding using my imagination and inspiration from the web and pinterest.

  • #2 - Another example with the WDCC Beauty & the Beast/Belle and Prince - The Spell is Lifted cake topper. This is more to match a color scheme with more yellow. The quote makes a lovely accent to the cake. The cake is complimented with yellow rose petals on the table to complete the look.

  • #3 - Another lovely cake to match a more yellow color scheme. In this cake example, the couple actually used a smaller Jim Shore piece as the cake topper (www.jimshore.com).
If the piece you are searching for is no longer available on the website, you may try eBay or Amazon. Hallmark is also a vendor of Jim Shore pieces. The figurines at the bottom of the cake are made by Lenox. You may need to locate them using a site such as Amazon or eBay.

  • #4 - This fourth example uses all Lenox Figurines. This can get costly because each figurine can run anywhere from $100.00 to $500.00 depending on how rare the figure is. Some of these figurines can only be found on sites other than Lenox, such as Amazon or eBay. However, if you are a bride with no budget, this could be the style cake for you!

  • #5 - This lovely cake combines the My Hand, My Heart Beast figurine with My Heart is Yours Belle figurine, both figurines by Lenox, and as of 5/3/2015, both available on www.lenox.com. With the red and gold in the cake, this cake would work well with either the red, gold, royal blue color scheme, or the black, white, red and gold color scheme.

  • #6 - This cake uses Belle's Wedding Dreams by Lenox. This cake top is no longer available on the Lenox website, but you can still easily find it on sites such as Amazon or eBay as discussed earlier.

Saying Yes to the Dress

When it comes to capturing the style of Belle's dress, she offers two beautiful inspirations to choose from: either her iconic golden dress from the beautiful ballroom scene, or even her own wedding dress. Yes, I know Belle does not get married in the movie, however, if you reference the Lenox Cake Topper, or if you can recall when the Belle Wedding Barbie Doll was released, then Belle does provide a wedding dress inspiration. When choosing your wedding dress, you may wish to use either of these as inspiration.

Designer Alfred Angelo has come out with a line exclusively for the Disney Bride, and he has several stunning Belle dresses to choose from.

However, if none of his dresses are quite your style (or in your price range), you may seek to find a dress elsewhere, and still embody all that is Belle! In this section, I will go over the Alfred Angelo dresses and even suggest a couple of other dresses that I believe are a great match for Belle. I'll even show you my wedding dress, which was not an official "Disney" dress, but it was my belief, that it captured Belle's ball gown perfectly.

Also a quick tip before going on, many brides like to go with the traditional white for their wedding day, but if you are wanting to find a way to stick to Belle's golden dress color, yet still keep with the "white tradition," my tip is to go with Alabaster. My dress was an off-white, but still had a golden hue, so I had the best of both worlds for my dress.

Bridesmaids and Flowergirl(s)

Alfred Angelo carries the Disney Maiden line and the Disney Blossom line for your Bridesmaids and Flowergirl(s). Upon visiting the website, the main pictures will not initially show all the colors, but if you go through the dresses individually, you can see that each dress comes in different colors, so you will have a variety of choices to choose from.

I personally did not go with Alfred Angelo. Since my wedding was black, white, red and gold, I chose simple black bridesmaid dresses (please see picture for a dress similar to the dresses I selected). Black dresses are really easy to find and can match just about anything if this is the color scheme you are going with. My flower girl wore a simple white dress.

The Groom, Groomsmen and Ring-Bearer

For the Groom, Groomsmen and Ring-Bearer, you could go with navy or black tuxedos depending on your color scheme.

In both forms (beast and human), Prince Adam had tails on his tux. You will notice it in the ballroom scene, and at the end when he is in human form dancing with Belle. Having tails on the tuxedos of the wedding party could be an option for you.

The Ring-Bearer

Now that attire is covered, what about some cute ideas for the ring bearer? Belle was a bookworm and loved books. Instead of the traditional pillow down the aisle, your ring-bearer could carry a book. They also make glass roses that would suit the theme nicely.

Decor

  • Beauty and the Beast centered around a rose, so a pretty idea to use for decorating would always be to use a rose inside of a clock dome. If you do not want to use these on every table, you could just use this on the bride and groom's table, if you choose to arrange your tables in that manner.
  • I used a single rose in a clock dome on our bride and groom table, and for the rest of the tables, I had three vases (different sizes) filled with water, clear gems and a floating candle. I also used fake red rose petals on all tables. A lot of these items you can find at the Dollar Tree if you are trying to budget. Other good resources are quickcandles.com and save-on-crafts.com.
  • The Jim Shore Beauty and the Beast pieces are also very lovely to decorate with.
  • The Hallmark Store also typically has Beauty and the Beast pieces. I posted my guestbook display table in the pictures where you can see my "Be Our Guest" piece and the silhouette type piece.
  • To represent Lumiere and Cogsworth, you can try antique clocks and candlesticks.
  • An antique hand mirror would add a nice touch to your decorating.
  • If you are looking for a cheap centerpiece, you could stack books on top of each other and decorate with a pretty ribbon. This, of course, representing Belle's love of reading.
  • You can buy an actual Mrs. Potts and Chip tea-set, but if you want to save money, and are going for more elements of Beauty and the Beast as opposed to using the actual characters, you could always search antique stores, flea markets, Good Wills, eBay, Amazon, etc., to locate a pretty, cheap tea set to use on your tables.
  • You can accent your centerpieces with candles, mirrors, rose petals, jewels, doilies and more to make beautiful displays.

Inner Beauty

Invitations

For invitations, if you are handy with photoshop, you could always try your hand at designing them yourself. You could use roses, clipart from the movie, or whatever your imagination can come up with. I bought a clearance invitation kit from Walmart and then ran it through photoshop to create my own invites.
