He Lied... and She Believed

Updated on March 24, 2013

I know I have a heart because I feel it breaking.

I've written this poem to remember that once upon a time, I've known a beautiful young girl with a broken smile. Nobody knows why she cries or even why she has those scars upon her wrist.

s [HE] be [LIE] ve [D]

She used to dream of a true love and found it on him. Then one day, destiny greedily changed its mind.

I've been there for her, through her painful battle of saving her shattered heart; picking up all the pieces and finding a way to make it whole again.

And everytime I asked her "How are you?"

She will just laugh, then smile to hide the pain and say, "I'm alright, it only hurts when I breathe."

It's funny how fake a smile can be... and no one would notice the pain that lies beneath it all.

I’m tired to love him
He just let me bleed to death
Silence speaks it all.

I’m tired to fake a smile
A laugh and a cry
For I’m no longer me.

I am no one
A meaningless form of memory
Cradled on the dark.

I’d like to stay as a secret
I’m tired to be seen
He’ll just hurt me again.

I’m tired of his promises
Broken dreams and lies
Void of color.

I’m tired to be hurt
Tears that are endless
Pains that overflow.

I am unloved
In silence I fought it all
No one really knew it.

I’m tired to be visible.

If only...

"Sometimes I wish that I had never met you, so I could go to sleep at night not knowing there was someone like you out there."

"There are some hurts that you never completely get over. And you think that time will diminish their presence and to a degree it does, but it still hurts because well, hurt hurts. And as we grow older, it becomes difficult to just believe. It's not that we don't want to, but too much has happened that we just can't."

The emptiness and void is being pushed and pushed beyond it's limits. Sometimes people get so pushed back on the inside they forget how to reach back out or let other's reach in.

      Sadly, beautiful.

unknown spy...sad, but the truth being the raw pain in life is that of turmoil which seperates living vs existing....this negative experience must exist in order to move forward, making us stronger and able to survive this world....Very well written and obviously from the heart....

Thank you Midnight Lights. yes, she's happy now..i did not include this part because its another story and another life for her.. i just pen the part of the past sadness with a man she used to love..

Thanks, and may God bless your family.

Great write but seems incomplete. From the comments she's happy now? Maybe add that to this so we can all get a "whole" picture, and maybe tell how she finally broke free?

My favorite part was: "Sometimes I wish that I had never met you, so I could go to sleep at night not knowing there was someone like you out there." So many times I myself have had that same thought. But when I do get to that point, the terror walks back into my life.. he will NOT leave me alone.. (we have kids..) I can't wait for the day they are grown so I CAN do this forever!

My heart is breaking just reading your poem! I don't even know what to say. You are right in a way - the hurt never goes completely away - but she must never give up. Life has a way of handing her good surprises, too. I can only tell her from experience that we do get our hearts broken along the way, and yes some people will lie to us, butI hope she does not to get too jaded toward life. I just know there is happiness on its way to her. It may take a while, but it will come. In the meantime by writing this poem you are bringing joy and beauty to us through your words, and perhaps it will help her heal a bit to read this. Thanks so much for sharing!

There is so much pathos in your poem. Life is a vehicle that moves on and these incidents are just stops on the way, not full stops. We might linger for little or more time at these stops but will move on.

Love seems to be one of those things that we must try to attain. Sometimes we fail, but sometimes others are lucky on the first try. Giving up is not a good thing to do. It is better to allow time to heal in any way possible.

Nicely done, Spy. You captured the heart and soul of these feelings exceptionally well. I think, however, if more young girls practiced the art of self-love, they wouldn't fall into this trap. Then they would be strong enough to move on and find the one that is perfect for them and not make them feel unloved. It took me more years than I care to share to figure this one out. VUM. :)

I have to say that some people just can't see how to get over a sentimental issue such as ending a relationship if it is not replacing that person with another. I understand that people may have to deal with a time of healing after a split from a relationship, but "finding someone else" is not the cure, because then it means your value of life depends on other people, and that, in my opinion, is not having a healthy self-esteem. It's hard but the solution to such issue is to find happiness in the value that oneself can have. As long as people continue to adapt the mindset that a broken heart is only cured with love with someone else, the person will never discover the true cure to not suffering for the sake of romantic love.

The poem is beautiful and full of meaning. The message I get that for love, there must be mutual attraction, trust and respect. It takes all of that and more. If only one part of the couple is willing to make that commitment, then the relationship will never succeed. It may hurt, but at some point, you just have to move on and try to find new distractions or a new companion who is willing to give as much as you are.

Another great poem, Spy. I especially like the creative way you re-state the title.

I agree, sometimes emotional pain is so devastating, it physically hurts, we feel ashamed and just want to hide. But we do heal. We're amazingly resilient.
