Hypnotized by Anger
When we are involved in conflict our objectivity is compromised. We lose the power to analyse and reason critically. The situation is too close for us to see clearly. I see it like someone sticking a newspaper under your nose and asking you to read what it says. Unless you move back from it or the paper is moved a reasonable distance from your face you won’t be able to read it.
Anger is an emotion welling up from a part of us that is outside the jurisdiction of our logical conscious awareness.
Once the mind has been hijacked by anger we are no longer free to make informed logical decisions. In a state of anger all our words and actions are spontaneously motivated by the subconscious where reason has no home. In a state of anger the control centre or conscious thinking mind is being circumvented and chaos prevails.
Anger hypnotises its victims to the degree that their conscious minds are suspended for a time and they are completely powered by feelings welling up from the subconscious. The conscious thinking mind is helpless in the face of such feelings which can be likened to standing in front of a freight train trying to stop it while it is in full flight.
Only by coming out of this trance can we view the situation from a safe distance and break the spell these emotions have upon us. Hypnosis is a way to teach yourself how to separate from such overwhelming feelings so you don't allow them to hijack your mind.
Self Hypnosis to Regain Control
By learning the art of self hypnosis you teach yourself how to deliberately suspend your critical factor and access your subconscious. Gaining access to your subconscious in this way allows you to safely change or even replace the subconscious program that powers the anger. I would however consider this approach only a short term solution until you have also addressed the underlying emotional root cause of the anger. Psychotherapy is an effective way to help you do this.
I am in private practice as a Hypno-Psychotherapist which means that I use this "two pronged" method to eliminate the presenting symptom and also address the underlying root cause. I believe that making the effort to understand the reason for the symptom at the subconscious level is like a parent who takes the time to listen to her child. You can pacify a child crying for a while but ultimately it is in taking the time to find out what the problem is that lasting relief is achieved.
Choosing a Therapist
I highly recommend Hypno-Psychotherapy as an extremely effective method for dealing with symptoms with an underlying emotional root cause. Another label for this kind of therapy is Analytical Hypnotherapy and it is important that you note the difference between Hypnotherapists who only treat symptoms using suggestion and those who use a combination of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy to also address the reasons for the symptoms.
There are some great therapists out there and it is recommended that you seek help from suitably qualified therapists. In the United kingdom, to find a fully accredited Hypnotherapist of the standard you can trust I recommend you search the NCH website for a therapist in your area.

Anger hijacks our analytical logical thinking mind and it happens without us knowing anything about it.
