Ideas: A Zebra, Pink, Black and White Wedding Theme
A Zebra inspired pink, black and white wedding theme. Yes, you heard that right. This is definitely not your mothers wedding - who would have thought 30 years ago that this would be a hot theme for a wedding?
I was inspired to do some writing on this by good friend Melissa, who informed me yesterday that she is not only getting married this year, but is planning to use this theme for their wedding. How cool is that! Melissa is going to make some of the wedding decorations herself - and I have added to the theme by picking out my own favorite items that would compliment a Zebra inspired pink, black and white wedding.

Designing with colors
When planning a wedding with such strong colors as pink and black (and a Zebra pattern), I think caution would be the key to not go overboard with the theme. I imagine pink and white as the primary colors, with the black and white stripes coming into play as accent pieces to the wedding - like in the cake, bouquets, flower girls dresses and wedding favors.
I found a couple of cakes that I found worth mentioning: The first one is the black and white inspired zebra pattern cake to the right (isn't it beautiful?) I love the way the zebra pattern winds around the cake. Not too much but just enough black to really stand out. Very very classy!
I also like the pink, black and white zebra cake below. The pink bow at the top adds a nice touch. Not too much and really cute and sassy.
The wedding flowers
I don't know what Melissa is planning for her dress color yet, but I would choose a pure white dress for the bride and use the zebra patterns and colors in her bouquet, along with similar colors for the bridesmaids, the groom and the best man. I saw some all black bouquets available but I think pure black for a wedding bouquet is just too strong (not to mention a bit macabre) A nice touch would even be to use pure white flowers in the bridesmaids bouquets - it would be a nice soothing and complimentary color to the theme. Pictured to the right are some silk flower arrangements I found on eBay which are actually 17 piece sets - all the flowers that would be needed for a large wedding party.
What I really like about these bouquets is that they have just the slightest hint of the zebra theme in the bouquets. Grizzly black and white feathers are incorporated into the pink (fuchsia) and white flowers. Nice and light little waves of the theme but not overpowering. Silk flowers are always nice too because they can be kept as keepsakes after the wedding.
DIY zebra table numbers by Melissa
Melissa is getting some good ideas for her Zebra themed wedding from the knot, where she has gotten DIY instructions on how to make some of her own wedding accessories. One of the things she has already started on is making themed table plaques for the reception tables
Since her accessories are the zebra theme, I would go with either solid colors for the table cloths and perhaps even add some zebra candle votives for the tables (or use the zebra candles in the ceremony - that would be very pretty too)
Zebra runners under a solid color tabelcloth would be nice
She could also add some zebra accents to the table by using zebra striped napkins and/or some zebra striped table runners in the reception hall. As I said before though, I would use caution overusing the zebra theme because otherwise the theme could become overpowering instead of being classy and fun.
Zebra inspired bridesmaid/flower girl dresses
I don't know how many children are going to be in Melissa's wedding, but I do know that their cute little baby girl will definitely be included in the theme. I found some adorable bridesmaid/holiday dresses on Amazon that are just absolutely beautiful. What I like about these dresses is that they are not only classy but they incorporate all the colors of a pink and black Zebra inspired wedding without being "overdone".
Matching zebra heels!
Melissa told me she was trying to find some heels to match her zebra theme and at the time I thought geez that's going to be tough. Surprisingly though, there is a shoe manufacturer that not only makes shoes with a zebra pattern but they are even pink and black! I don't know how many times one would be able to use this combination going out but for a zebra themed wedding they are perfect!
Zebra wedding invitations
Melissa was inspired by my hub Ideas: Planning a Purple and Gold Wedding, to use VistaPrint for her invitations. In that article I explained how I used VistaPrint to design my friend Rose and TD's orchid wedding themed wedding invitations. Melissa went on VistaPrint and found the perfect zebra, pink, black and white wedding invitations that she is going to personalize herself and have printed by VistaPrint (they also come with matching envelopes if desired) Perfect!
A zebra garter
Melissa has already found her garter to match - but here's another garter I found that would be great for the theme too. I like this sassy garter and the way the feathers encircle the zebra stripes.
This garter would especially be cute with a pure white dress.
Wedding favors and keepsakes
I personally like wedding favors that can either be eaten - or a truly nice keepsake that I won't stash in my drawer and forget about. If Melissa goes with the edible kind of favor, there are a couple cute candy favors that can be purchased already wrapped in zebra labels - or - for the do-it-yourselfer, one could also buy the candy, find a label program on the computer and make your own zebra labels to wrap the candies yourself. If going with a more of a keepsake type of favor, maybe photos of the bride and groom in a zebra pattern border would be cute too (these could be printed on the back of the invitations)
More zebra inspired wedding accessories
Other cute accessories I found were zebra inspired flower girls baskets and a zebra print ring bearer pillow. If used sparingly, these zebra themed accessories will complement and make the other solid wedding colors pop!
My FAVORITE zebra wedding accessory!
Zebra inspired weddings are HOT!
I have to say I was absolutely surprised to find how many ideas there were actually out there for zebra, pink, black and white inspired weddings. Back when I first got married (in the 70's), I highly doubt there was anyone getting married with this theme. Nowadays though, people are getting more and more creative and coming out with some really fun and interesting wedding themes. This theme might not be appropriate for a somber type Catholic wedding in a cathedral, but for any other wedding venue I'd say this theme could be pulled off and would really be enjoyed by both the guests and the wedding party. There are also come great accessories to be found on the Internet for a zebra, pink, black and white wedding theme, not to mention websites available for the do-it-yourselfers. And my favorite wedding accessory I found for this theme? A cake wedding server shaped like a high-heeled zebra shoe! My favorite and a must have in my book! Have fun planning your zebra inspired pink, black and white wedding!
