If You Love Me, Talk To Me

Updated on November 24, 2009

Clarissa Douthit

Communication is Key to a Successful Relationshp.

Has your relationship hit a communication wall? Are you left trying to guess what your partner is thinking - feeling? Have you ever bothered to say, "If you love me, talk to me?" Isn't it about time we made that statement.

It's not a confrontational demand. It isn't a statement of selfishness. It's a statement of love. The kind of love that bears and shares all things in a relationship: the good, the bad, and the indifferent. So, 'if you love me, talk to me' is a mantra of compassion.

There are times our solitude is necessary to rejuvenate. To recuperate. To renew. However, solitude can also be a means of not sharing our cares, concerns, hurts, and disappointments with each other. The best relationships have hit a stale mate due to the lack of communication. If we are to survive the weariness that can plague a potentially life long, loving relationship talk to each other. Most of all, share your inner soul.

Freedom is had only when we risk it. If your relationship is worth fighting for - communicate because it frees your soul.

P.S. Communicate doesn't equate to nagging. Nagging has no real substance.

@Prolix: It seems communication would be the easiest part of any relationship. However, we all know it is the most daunting of aspects for relationships. It boils down to giving each other the right to speak even when it may not be what we want to hear. Respecting opinions is also key.

@feenix: I believe as writers, we get caught "inside" our thoughts. We know how to communicate very well; yet sometimes our silence - introspection - is mistaken for not loving our partners. I have had to dig myself out of my introspective cave and communicate with my fiance who is a wonderful communicator. It's the simplicity of real communication that eludes many awesome relationships. As Nike's brand states, "Just Do It!"

      Hello, Rissa,

This is a useful, awesome, beautiful and very interesting article, and I certainly did need to read it.

You see, I am one of those types who isolates from others and withdraws into my own world.
