Is Online Dating For The Truly Desperate?
Desparate for a date? Take the case of George (not his real name). At the age of 27, he was still single.
In my view, this is no great tragedy or disaster, but as far as George was concerned, it was terrible. He thought he would be married and have children by this age.
Out of desperation, he started going out with people who were a complete waste of time. He would fall for anyone who smiled at him. Eventually, he got tired of looking for people at clubs and bars. It seems like a wise decision to me. However, he is also against going out on blind dates.
It was once suggested to him that he look for dates online. After all, there are a lot of dating sites out there, and a lot of people who use them. While it may not be the standard way of finding dating partners, why not give it a shot?
George, however, was completely put off by such a thought. I don't know why, since many couples have found each other through the online dating sites. While it's true that some people will lie about themselves online and are complete losers, those who use their head can see through such people rather quickly.
After all, if you meet somebody in a bar or club and chat for only a few minutes and then exchange phone numbers, that person can also turn out to be a dud.
Finding dating partners online may actually be safer than meeting people in a bar or club. Nevertheless, George thinks this is the craziest idea he's ever heard of. I think he's silly for not at least trying it. After all, if you're, that eager to find someone, why not give it a try?
The fact is that finding your significant other isn't all that easy. Nowadays, it can even be somewhat unsafe.
Many people, no matter how they meet, when they first start dating each other are careful to do so in a public place and are wary about letting each other know where they live for the first few dates. Let's face it: there is a certain degree of uncertainty when dating anyone nowadays.
Online dating can be relatively safe if you take a few precautions. First, meet each other at a public place and not at your residence until you know each other well. Bring your cell phone with you and let friends know where you will be going and when you expect to return home on the night of the date.
Whether you find your dating partners online or at school, work or through mutual friends, it is best to get to know them well before you become too intimate. Be smart, be safe and have fun.
