It’s People Like The LDS Woman Caller Into NPR That Lets Me Know I’m Right To Think They’re All Morons!

Updated on July 14, 2010

So my spouse and I were driving in the car listening to NPR (National Public Radio) as we often do. The topic they happened to be discussing was Proposition 8 and the opposition to it. For those of you who don’t know, this is the Proposition that was passed in California taking away the right for gays to marry in that state. Now there has been a lot on Proposition 8 (which is often called, “Proposition H8TE”) and while I’m sure I see more about it than my straight counterparts I don’t go out of my way looking to see what’s going on in the fight against it every minute of every day (God bless them, that’s what all those websites that gather your information and hound you to death via email about every minute detail of what’s going on with an issue, a political party or candidate are for apparently – I receive way too many of these emails every day). Anyway a woman called in and as we listened to her speak I discovered that it’s people like the LDS woman caller into NPR that lets me know I’m right to think they’re all morons! – Don’t Get Me Started!

Before you angry folks write in to me telling me that I’m doing what the gays hate people doing to them, using one isolated incident or stereotype to group the entire lot of Mormons just don’t.  I don’t care what you think, I’ve been around a lot of Mormons in my time and I’m sticking to my guns like a member of the NRA on this one. For those of you who don’t know, the whole Proposition 8 movement in California was heavily funded by the LDS Church. There’s documentation up the wazoo on this one so if you don’t believe me, just Google it and I’m sure you’ll find all of the documentation on it including information about a documentary that was produced about it. In other words, don’t take my word for it.

So this woman who sounded very sheepish on the phone (no surprise there, only women with no self esteem or lack of common sense would be a member of any church or organization that has such little regard for them but that’s why we’re here in America, to allow morons to be morons). She began by saying that she didn’t believe the LDS Church was responsible for funding Proposition 8 and then went on to give some of the usual stereotypical, “I’m about to slam you gays but first I’m going to lull you into a sense of thinking I like you by saying that I have gay friends.” So she gets all of that out of the way and talks about how she doesn’t really know if she feels homosexuality is wrong but thinks that children should have a mother and a father to be raised properly (don’t they always go back to the children?) even though she’s a single parent so with all the typical stuff she was saying I found myself rather bored until she said the following (and I’m not quoting exactly here because I didn’t have a recorder or my reporter notebook handy), “There are hardcore gays who are born that way and then there are people who become gay because they don’t do well with the opposite sex so it’s easier to find someone of your own sex to be with.” Really?!? Really, Miss Uninformed Utah 2010? I couldn’t believe what I was hearing but more than that I couldn’t believe that anyone whether they were Mormon or any other religion would actually believe this crap. I don’t think she came up with this on her own and the only thing I can think is that she probably thinks she’s won the Irish Sweepstakes from that email she got in the mail and has every “As Seen On TV” product and can’t figure out why she doesn’t have washboard abs like the people in the commercials.

What are we intelligent people supposed to do with people like this roaming the earth? Honestly, I’m not one of those people who feel I’m smarter than everyone else in the world but I know I’m a hell of a lot smarter than this woman. Even with the fact that I have no idea where Canada is I know that there aren’t “hardcore” gays born at birth and other gays who turn gay because they can’t get the opposite sex to date them. This is why a little education is always dangerous. This is why we can’t do enough to let people know that stupid statements such as these have no basis in fact, they’re just stupidity made up by the stupid and retold and regurgitated by the people who are even more stupid than the people who come up with this crap. I’m all for embellishing a story to make it more interesting but spouting theories that have no basis in anything just seems as though someone should be sitting in the corner with a pointy “Dunce” cap on, right?

I know it’s a free country and that everyone is entitled to their opinion and in a way I’m glad this woman gave hers as it hopefully showed some people who were listening just how not smart all of the opposition is to giving homosexuals full rights in this country. Sure there are plenty of smart ones who find ways to create laws and cut us homosexuals out of the supposed, “all men are created equal” promise but they couldn’t get as far as they have without their moron minions pumping cash into their causes and spreading their stupidity. It’s people like the LDS woman caller into NPR that lets me know I’m right to think they’re all morons! – Don’t Get Me Started!

kklames - you're exactly right. I think the ability to argue sometimes lets us know we're alive...I never want to be a "flatliner" and thanks to my rants, I don't think that will ever happen. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Hello sliscott, again you get a thumbs up and awesome because there isn't an excellent rating. Wouldn't it be nice to enlighten, declaw and sensitize the whole world to respect individuality?

But then, who would we argue with...?

      Good Morning Good Gent!!

I'm disappointed you dismissed my ponderings above so casually!!??

I rarely go back to Hubs to see if the author responded to my comments because it is generally a sincere thank you and not much else!

I thought yours however might open some profound insights and discoveries into a world you know so well!!??

In a world of entertainment-only, substance-lacking, we get people like the NPR caller!! Is the solution to join the shallow, or encourage depth!!??

Have a great day!! Earth Angel!!

What happens when you take the MMMMM out of Mormon?

      You get a Mor_on.

It is the right for every moron to have an opinion...and every Mormon as far as the bill of rights goes, however, the sad truth of our planet is that many living with stringent guidelines in their religions seem to feel the need to push their strident lifestyles on others. Why is this?

For me a straight Canadian male, I know where Canada is, don't mind gayness in whatever form, because it is a personal, and should be a private, choice of lifestyle and the opportunity for anyone to marry anyone else has nothing to do with politics.

However, Scott, it is fun every now and then to let out a good rant--well done--but try to be a better American and find out where Canada is. We're good people and good neighbours...unlike some

EA - Reading your comments actually made my small brain hurt. Too much to think about, too much to consider, I'm just not smart enough to even begin to come up with answers to the questions you pose above. Arghhh!!! I wish I did. Thanks for the brain freeze!

      Good Morning Again Mr. Java-Pal!!

Interesting perspective!! Even more interesting reaction on your part Scott!! And on my part as well!!

I've been pondering your words in this Hub as I make the morning coffee, tend to the fur-family and water the garden!!

So 'moron' might be a little harsh in my vocabulary for the woman NPR caller, but certainly uneducated and unenlightened would come to mind!!

Is the issue of 'being gay' really that black and white!!?? A person is born gay or not??

I was born and raised in San Francisco - and I love the wide range of experiences and sexual choices I was blessed to witness!! The 'choices' were as different as each of the people involved!!??

Is there no debate above for bi-sexuals?? Is there no room for people who 'fall in love with the person, not the sex of the person??' What of those who are trying to break free of social conditioning, including the man-woman-only equation?

I would consider myself straight, attracted to men and only having been with men!! At the same time, I have met a couple of women in my life whose life force energy was so magnetic I could see myself married to either!!

Does that make me gay/lesbian?? Or bi-sexual?? Or curious?? Or confused??

I don't feel any of those labels fit me!! Nor fit a lot of the people I know!! If I choose to be with a woman for the rest of my life, does that make me gay/lesbian?? If I choose to be with a woman for a few dates or a few years but then fall for a man, does that make me bi?? And where do those of us who choose celibacy fit in??

Is it our 'actions only' that make us gay?? Or our physical wiring and/or DNA?? Or our choices?? Or can there be a bit of each for some?? Or is it a label we earn in hindsight based on the percentage of choices we made either way??

I would hope that we could all move beyond labels (yes, including name calling) and just look into another persons eyes/soul to see their essence instead of just looking into their pants to see their equipment!!

Did I miss something?? I will continue to ponder this one a while!!

Blessings always Great Scott! Earth Angel!!

Just be who you are and what you are proud of. You are always going to have to hear what morons like that talk about. No one is ever going to fully accept the gay community. The lady on that broadcast obviously didn't know what she was talking about. ;)

Amber - I couldn't agree with you more. I also think this is why we gays need to get organized and make our own religion all ready!

Mormons HAVE to be against gay marriage. It has to do with their mission of baptizing everyone in the name of the Mormon faith. In theory, gays can't make new Mormons and if you can't make new Mormons, you have no business getting married. I could drive Mt. Everest through the philosophical, metaphysical, and logical flaws in this theory, but again, the stupid just aren't worth more of my time. My biggest concern is how fast they're breeding.
